The WINFORCE 50/100 km is a Danish ultra trail race in two distances of 50/100 km, hence being run on a 25 km course, so a total of 4x25 km (100 km) and 2x25 km (50 km) with a total elevation gain of approx. 1088/2175 height meters. The course is very demanding and with varying terrain such as beach sand, stony beach, forest trails with roots and as little as possible, tarmac road. The race starts on Saturday, August 9, 2014 with starting time at 0530 am for the 100 km and 1000 am for the 50 km. There will be cut-‐off times to be managed (see No. 11). The inscription of runners and collection of race numbers can either be done on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at ULTRARUN – Gunlogsgade 11, kld., DK-‐
2300 Copenhagen S., Denmark, or on race day between 0430-‐0500 am. Race briefing will be held right after the inscription of runners. The race is held in the northern part, namely Odsherred, on the Danish Island called Sealand in the area of Ordrup outside of Faarevejle in North Sealand. The start and finish area is on the parking lot near the public beach, Hoejbjergvej, Ordrup, 4540 Faarevejle. The race is founded on charity and the surplus from the race goes to the organization called TUBA, which is a therapeutic counseling of children and young people of the age between 14 and 35 years old, who have had an upbringing in families with alcohol abuse. A huge amount of children and young people are overlooked by the Danish society! Read more about this under No. 19. All runners will be self-‐sufficient during the race, which means that there will be no aid stations but one in the start/finish area during the course of the race. To run 50/100 km in this terrain will be a huge challenge, and adding the elevation of 1088/2175 height meters and you have the perfect formula for very tired legs. The terrain though and in particular the ground is not as technically demanding as parts of the Danish race the Salomon Hammer Trail on the Island of Bornholm. You will experience some very beautiful nature, for example you will experience the highest point of Sealand, namely Vejrhoej, with an amazing view to the bight of Sejeroe. ¤ No. 2 Qualification. We don’t have any qualifications for the race. Cut-‐off times SHALL be respected or ells the runner will be disqualified. It is up to each participant in the race to assess whether he/she feels fully prepared for the race. Please notice though, that it is not only a 50/100 km race, but also a race with lots of elevation gains! We recommend to train as much as possible in terrain with ascents and descents along the way. If this is your first ultra race, please seek information in online forums or with more experienced ultra runners in terms of preparations for your first ultra. ¤ No. 3 Sponsors. ULTRARUN – Race organizer www.ultrarun.com WINFORCE – name sponsor 2014 32Gi & SaltStick – 32Gi will be introduced as energy sponsor & SaltStick is sponsor of electrolyte capsules. © Copyright ULTRARUN. Petzl– Prize sponsor of headlamps. GripGrab -‐ Prize sponsor of running accessories. Inov8 – Prize sponsor of backpacks. ¤ No. 4 Charity: TUBA. The surplus from the WINFORCE 100 km will go to charity and the organization TUBA ( www.tuba.dk ). TUBA helps all the many young people who have had an upbringing in families characterized by alcohol abuse with the implications this will have on the children for the rest of their lives. As an example approximately 56% of the young people will grow up with symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome! To grow up with alcoholic parents is a taboo area in Denmark. We would like to give this cause and TUBA’s fight some extra focus and attention about the topic. To make a comparison to ultra running, you could say that our ultra race is scheduled for one day…. The “race” these children are “fighting” will continue for the rest of their lives. We hope that all runners will help us with this project. Read more about TUBA on their website: www.tuba.dk ¤ No. 5 Course description. For a preliminary description of the course, have a look here: http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=mcadrkyiypvzwkwj&referrer=trackList The course mostly consists of gravel paths, sand beach, stony beach, forest trails and not the least: The sheepfold on the Ordrup Naes. Here the sheep are at times so lazy that you’ll need to pass them and not run into them… The course is divided in the following (approximate) percentages: Trail : 90% ( gravel paths, forest trails, and fields) Beach : 5% ( sand, cliffs and rocks ) Tarmac road : 5% The terrain and ground is not very technically demanding, but especially on the 1000 m of stony beach, there will be a risk of twisting ankles and knees! If we have onshore winds and high tide on the race day this part of the course close to the water, approximately 2 km, can be covered with as much as 10 cm of water. This is though VERY unlikely to happen! © Copyright ULTRARUN. The course is run in the SAME direction for each round. The first 8 km of the course is relatively flat, and then the course will consist of more and more elevation gains. The final 3 km of the course is also relatively flat. Course elevation profile can be viewed below: A GPX file of the course draft can be downloaded from this link below: http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=mcadrkyiypvzwkwj&referrer=trackList ¤ No. 6 Marking of the course. The course will be marked with plastic strips in red/white colors. The strips will be tied on trees, posts, and bushes and on sticks in the ground. The markings will be in eye level when possible. The markings will be placed so there will be no doubt about in which direction the course follows even at times when the runners are tired on the final rounds. Certain places on the course, the markings will be arrows. The runners are encouraged to Run in the left hand side of the road on the few parts of the course on tarmac road. Two places on the course, the runners will have to cross a road with traffic. The runners are encouraged to be very cautious here! The signs on the road will in time and very clearly let cars know about decreasing their speed. ¤ No. 7 © Copyright ULTRARUN. Compulsory equipment. All runners on the 50/100 km distance shall bring the following equipment during ALL the race: •

During the race energy drinks, cola and water etc. are only served in the runners’ water bottles or the like, so a cup is recommended for drinking at the aid station. ¤ No. 8 Recommended equipment and shoes. We recommend choosing trail shoes for this race as 90% of the course is on gravel paths, trails, fields, beach etc. Furthermore, some parts of the course is single trail with high grass, branches etc. why it can be an advantage to run with long or ¾ tights. We also recommend to bring your own band-‐aids for the race for smaller wounds, blisters etc. In the case of severe rain/winds, a wind and rain jacket should be brought with you. Notice: In the case of heavy winds, the area of the Ordrup Naes is very open for the weather. Extra gear may only be placed at the aid station in the start/finish area. It is not permitted to place own aid stations along the course. ¤ No. 9 Aid stations. In the finish area will be placed an aid station with a table – then only aid station on the course. The runners can therefore refill water etc. every time the aid station is passed. This naturally put some demands on the runners’ equipment (see No. 7 about compulsory equipment). At the provisioning tent is and aid station (see No. 9 Aid stations). In this area is also a marked runners’ zone, where the runners can place their own gear. The participants are encouraged to be respectful towards fellow runners and limit their space to 1 m2. It is recommended to use a plastic box for the gear in the case of rain. Red/white plastic strips mark all the above-‐mentioned three zones on race day. The runners’ zone will be shielded, but without any access control. Storage of the runners’ own gear is at their own risk. On the race day, the runners will be asked to add an emergency phone number for the race organization on their cell phone. At the finish area, there are also great options for the spectators to follow the race from a hilltop. A nearby jetty is situated into the water. At the end of this jetty are tables and chairs and a stairs into the water. If you bring some binoculars, the runners can be followed for the most part of the course towards the Ordrup Naes. There is also a great beach next to the finish are with blue flags.
