On this eventful day, all pupils participated in different games. Some of my friends came early to help the teachers-in-charge set up the games. To start off the day, a few pupils performed an Olympic dance choreographed by Mdm Damaria. Everyone enjoyed the splendid dance and music. Next up, it was time for the fun to begin! Each level went to their respective game venues. I think that it was a good arrangement as every level could play their games at the same time. Then, the competition began. During the games, it was very intense. Every class fought vigorously to get a medal. After a few long hours, the games ended. Our class had won! The winners and runners-up got a gold or silver medal. Cheers could be heard from the upper primary levels. After saying the dismissal prayers, everyone headed home with high spirits. I have learnt more about sportsmanship and teamwork. We have to work together in order to win something and at the same time, we must not cheat. It was a memorable day for me. Here are some comments from our pupils about our IJ Va lue sl Sp e or tsm arnt & : an Te sh Kimi Neo from 5 Hope, “It was awesome as our class had won!!!” am i p wo rk Melissa Chan from 2Peace, “I enjoyed myself even though I lost in the Assembly Highlight by—English Week 2,3 Youth Environment Day 3 Visit by John Dewey School 4 Founder’s Day 4 National Photog5 raphy Competition IJ Walk for Water 6 Sneak Peek at CAC 6 Photo Workshop Olympics~ game.” Group Photo of 6 Hope: The champions with Mrs Tan and Mdm Kho. English Week On Friday, 12th April, during a special morning assembly, we had the opportunity to meet Miss Wise, our WSA-EC owl for the first time! She was so cute. Her appearance that morning was in conjunction with the English Week. Everyone’s by Joelle Soh (3 Hope) lish activities that would take place in the week. There was also a prize presentation to the Megan Lee as she had creatively crafted the slogan for the week and that was “English In the House!” Value learnt: from the assemAppreciation bly performances. Before the end of the assembly, Miss Wise appeared again to share a story with us. I like Miss Wise because she is wise and she speaks good English. It was an exciting morning. An important value I learnt was to show appreciation by paying attention to the happenings on stage. This way, I will also gain more knowledge Megan Lee’s (6 Faith) idea on the slogan “English in the House” won her a certificate, a token and a photo shoot with Mrs Tan and Miss Wise. Congratulations! Closing of the English week witnessed Winners of the IJ Young Poet and Story telling Competition beaming with pride and joy. Youth Environment Day (YED) by Melissa (2 Peace) & Caitlyn (3 Hope) The YED art competition took place in our school on Tuesday afternoon, 16 April. Other primary schools in the North zone sent representatives to our school to take part in the competition. The topic for the competitors was “My Clean Singapore”. A few classrooms in the school were used as the venues for the competitors to work on their art pieces. The students drawings were beautiful. There were different kinds of drawing materials like pencils, colour pencils, oil pastels, paint and colourful markers provided for the competitors. Results of the competition were announced in the hall. While waiting for the results, the competitors and teachers were entertained by a funny skit on “Reduce, reuse and recycle”. On the whole, we had a great experience taking photos of the competitors in action. The CLIMB value we have learnt is to take care of our environment. “ I was very happy because I got to take many photographs of the event on that day.” - Juventus (P3 Joy) CAC members in action! Our school was very fortunate to be the host for the staff and pupils from the John Dewey School (from Philippines) on Tuesday, 16 April. The day ended with some serving of food for tea break. To thank the hosting school, the pupils from John Dewey presented a short but exciting performance. We had a joyful experience hosting them. On that day, we commemorated and celebrate our founder, Father Nicolas Barre. Father Barre founded the chain of CHIJ schools, hundreds of years ago. Till today, by Chen Fei (5 Hope) for children like us. I will always be extremely grateful to him. he is still remembered by us To emphasize on what he did and why, our very own talented English Drama Club members acted out his history and touched everyone’s hearts. When I think of Father Nicolas Barre, I feel very blessed as he sacrificed himself Listening to Father Barre’s story, I learned about compassion. He felt greatly for young and needy children. As shared by Lareina Joseph from 3 Hope ,“I feel very glad and blessed that Father Barre was here for us.” Values learnt: Compassion & Gratefulness A well-performed skit by the EL Drama Club members to depict the works of Father Barre. I took pictures of the people fishing as I thought they represent what people would do when they visit a park that is next to the river . Every year, schools in Singapore send representatives to participate in it to showcase their photography skills and talents in capturing wonderful moment. We also took photographs of the trees and one of our winning pieces was the shot of the two boys sitting on the swings swinging happily. The other shot was the three pretty flowers in a domino formation . At our third and final destination, we took some landscape and pleasure shots before we headed back to the community centre to report and end the day. Four of our Current Affairs Club members, Xin Hui(5 Hope), Kimi(5 Hope), Faith(3 Love) and I participated in this year’s competition that took place in the eastern part of Singapore. The workshop was conducted by a representative from Canon. He shared useful tips on how to handle a DSLR camera and how to capture great moments with it. The girls had a great and enriching experience. Hopefully, our Current Affairs Club pupils will be able to apply these photography skills when they capture memorable moments for our school’s events. - By Mdm Tina, Mrs Woo & Mdm Chen I Chun Listening attentively to the tips and tricks…..
