To Our Gardening Friends:
It has been a whirlwind of 15 years. We expanded again!! We now have three
connected greenhouses. I can’t wait to get into the greenhouse and start planting,
and watch the amazing colors take shape. I have new workshops we are going to
try this year! And some “Make and Take,” workshops!! Hopefully, there will be some
interest. They are geared toward adults as well as children. I hope this is the funniest
year we have ever had at the greenhouse.
“LIKE,” us on Facebook!! We have many giveaways on Facebook. And Facebook
is the place to hear all the latest info on the workshops and “Make and Take,” it
workshops.
Thank you to all of our loyal customers, new and old!
Now let’s get planting! Diane
2015 Perennial of the Year
Geranium, Biokovo
This hardy geranium
is known for it’s
groundcover beauty. It
will look good all season
with little maintenance.
In early summer, white
flowers with pink begin
to appear and continue
to bloom sporadically.
The fragrant, glossy green
foliage takes on reddish
tints in fall. You can plant
this perennial in full sun,
but it will bloom longer in
afternoon shade.
Height: 10”, Width:

Diane’s Greenhouse is a family owned
business. We started our greenhouse in
2000. With only a thought and a prayer,
and no experience, we knew we could do
this. Our goal is to serve the customer
with superior service. We strive for the
highest quality plants you can find. We will
continue to educate ourselves, and you, on
having the best possible flower beds and
containers possible.
We hope you feel, a little more like a

Landscaping
“Do-it-yourself”, is becoming more popular as each year
goes on. Here, at Diane’s Greenhouse we want you to become
good at landscaping. Bring pictures, measurements, and we will
supply the plan. There’s no charge for the plan when you buy
the plants from us. We will thoroughly teach you how.
If DIY is not for you, than we have a landscaping team
ready to do the work for you. It can’t hurt to get an estimate,
so give us a try. Let us help make your dreams come true.
No job is too big or too small
Diane’s Helpful Hints: Growing Vegetables
Many people have problems with tomato blight during summer.
We have found, if the ground stays consistently moist, you can probably
eliminate blight.
To help keep the ground moist, add two ice cream buckets full of
mushroom compost, plant, and mix into soil well. Plant your tomatoes very
deep, only leaving a few leaves showing on top of the ground.
We also suggest mulching each plant with a 3”, layer of mushroom
compost.
You can use leaves, or something that does not attract heat. Do not
use grass clippings, especially if you treated your lawn for weeds.
We use a soaker hose and leave it running for about eight hours. When
it gets very hot turn on the hose once every five days.

Diane’s Helpful Hints: Caring for Perennials
I get asked all the time, how to take care of perennials, once the
customer gets them home. You must water the containers every day until
you plant them. You can keep them alive all summer, in the container,
but it’s more work. So the sooner you plant them, the easier it is for you.
Make sure the soil is well worked up, and we recommend adding a 1 gallon
container of mushroom compost to the hole, and working it into the soil.
Plant your perennial into this mixture. Then water well.
You will have to water this plant 1”, of water at least once a week.
When it starts to get into the heat of summer, water twice a week. Sometimes time can get away from us, but the plants still need water. You can
plant all summer and fall, you just have to remember to water your plants.
When the weather starts to cool off in the fall, the ground needs to stay
moist. After a hard frost, cover your perennials with a 3-4”, layer of mulch.
Leaves and mushroom compost work well.

Diane’s Helpful Hints: Creating a Hanging basket
1. Select a beautiful basket!
2. Baskets in the sun all day, need more water. In the heat of summer, you will probably need
to water your basket twice a day. A good rule to follow is if it’s 75 degrees you will probably
be watering once every day-thoroughly. If it’s 85 degrees or warmer you will be watering
thoroughly twice a day. Once in the morning and also late afternoon or evening.
3. Water your basket thoroughly. Use at least an ice cream bucket full of water/basket.
Sometimes you should repeat this.
4. Fertilize-Diane likes “Daniels,” fertilizer. Fertilize on a regular basis. (once a week) The large
baskets eat up a lot of fertilizer, so don’t overlook this step. Or top dress with a slow release
fertilizer. You should repeat this application about mid July.
5. Add ½”, cocoa bean mulch or mushroom compost for top dress. This will help hold in the
moisture on those hot, windy days.
Hosta, Empress Wu–Biggest leafed hosta on the market. Large blue/green leaves.

Diane’s Helpful Hints: Trees & Shrubs
`Trees
require 20 gallons of
water/week
`Shrubs
require 10 gallons/week
`Add
a gallon bucket of mushroom compost
to each vegetable plant. Also, mulch With a 3”,
layer. You’ll be amazed with the results. Less
disease and more fruit!
`When
planting a new tree, cover the trunk
with a white, Perforated tree protector. This
will protect the tree for the winter, and against
rabbits. Leave on all year, until the tree forms
it’s real bark.
– A Great Gift
`When
you purchase a tree or shrub, be sure
to water the container every day. The tree or
shrub must get planted wet! If it’s a hot windy
day, water the container first, dig your hole and
plant your item. Water the tree or shrub thoroughly. Keep the root ball of the tree or shrub
moist. It helps to mulch your tree, to keep the
moisture in the ground. We also recommend
to incorporate one package of Soil Moist in the
soil at time of planting. Most problems come
from under watering or over watering.
