What to do while you’re in
• Are you a big fan of mid-century modern architecture? Aren’t
we all? You’ll find terrific examples all over Palm Springs.
Residential, commercial, civic, hotels and schools. Neutra to
Lautner to Wexler. Take a tour or grab a map at our Visitor
Center, a mid-century jewel itself.
• While you’re here in Palm Springs hedonistically attending to
your body, don’t forget to get in touch with your cultural side as
well. The Palm Springs Art Museum will do nicely. Founded in
1938, the museum offers any number of fine works by Chagall,
Warhol, Lichtenstein, Calder, Rauschenberg and many, many
more. You’ll also find Native American and Western art, glass,
sculpture, photography and more. Plus a wonderful café perfect
for lunch in the sculpture garden.
• And speaking of art, take a stroll through a dozen artist-owned
galleries and working studios in our Backstreet Art District.
Discover artists creating original and contemporary art, including
paintings, sculpture, photography, jewelry and ceramics as well
as performing arts. Pick out a piece and go home with more than
just a tan.
• In the mood to be entertained? Celebrate the music and dance
of mid-century America with the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, a
nonstop performance of exuberant Broadway and TV dancers.
With a cast old enough to have lived it! (Just don’t call them
senior citizens.)
• Feeling lucky? After dinner, you might try your luck at the
downtown Spa Resort Casino. Just a short walk from downtown
Palm Springs, this plush casino offers great gaming, fine dining
and entertainment choices. And breathe easy. You’ll also find the
only fully-enclosed non-smoking slot room in the valley.
• Take your vacation to new heights with the Palm Springs
Aerial Tramway. A unique rotating tram car sweeps you up the
dramatic cliffs of Chino Canyon to an alpine wonderland atop
Mt. San Jacinto. Perfect for cool summer hiking or snow play in
the winter, at 8,500 feet high, you’ll find spectacular views all
year-round.
• If golf’s your game, welcome to paradise. The Resort and Legend
courses at the Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort offer lush, scenic
views of the Coachella Valley. Or begin your day with 18 at
the equally scenic Indian Canyons North and South courses.
Finish the day sipping ice-cold martinis at the spectacularly
contemporary Escena Golf Club clubhouse as you recap your
round and chat about Palmer and Nicklaus, Sinatra and Martin.
• Don’t forget those hiking shoes for some of the most unique
hiking experiences in the world, including the ancient and
pristine Indian Canyons. The grand Palm Canyon. The intimate
Andreas Canyon. The meandering Murray Canyon. And the
gentle upward slope of Tahquitz Canyon where your hike ends
at a spectacular waterfall. Whether down into the canyons or
up the mountain trails, a hike in Palm Springs is relaxing and
exhilarating all at the same time.
• For a truly unique change of pace, drop by The Palm Springs Air
Museum, home to one of the world’s largest collections of flyable
WWII aircraft. Exhibits and activities allow visitors of all ages to
gain a fresh perspective of World War II. Kids can even learn to
fly (well, digitally at least) on the simulators. Sort of a way cool
video game. And more good news. The museum is pet friendly,
so feel free to bring the furry family members along for the ride.
• Ready for cold, wet and refreshing? Splash down at Knott’s Soak
City, a great family fun water park with acres of wave pools,
water slides and an oh-so-lazy river. Even a four-story water
playhouse with a rush of icy water from a 1,000 gallon bucket to
help you keep your cool.
• Take them out to a ballgame. Nothing says summer like
baseball, and we’ve got the Palm Springs Power. Played at the
historic Palm Springs Stadium, watch some of the country’s elite
collegiate players compete nightly, June and July. Great games
on the field, thousands of cooling misters in the stadium and
plenty to eat and drink for hungry fans.
• Spend an evening under the stars at our always festive outdoor
Villagefest. Catch this vibrant street fair every Thursday evening
in downtown Palm Springs, with artwork, handmade crafts, tasty
street food, eclectic performers and lively street music. Visitors
and residents alike turn out by the thousands to enjoy the night
life and the night air. Join them.
• We’ve even got a National Park here for you. Joshua Tree
National Park, where the Colorado and Mojave deserts come
together. From the history of the tremendous earth forces that
shaped and formed this land to the urban legends of the LA rock
stars who found the area “inspirational”, the park is a perfect
day trip for those seeking to hike the “Jumbo Rocks” or search
for desert wildflowers.
• Anza-Borrego, the largest state park in California,
lies one hour from our doorstep featuring desert hiking
and a dramatic wildflower season.

Hollywood History
It doesn’t matter who you are.
Everybody needs a break now
and again. Maybe that’s why
Hollywood’s been coming to Palm
Springs ever since there was a
Hollywood.
Step back into the classic era of the
Rat Packers, sipping exotic cocktails under the stars by grandpiano-shaped swimming pools. Frank and
pals, after all, spent much of their time here
escaping the rest of the world.
And if it worked for them, it will surely work
for you.
Saunter down the Walk of Stars. Take your
picture with “Forever Marilyn”, a 26-foot
tall sculpture on display until June 2013.
Enjoy our world-renowned International Film
Festival. Our unique vacation home rentals,
retro resorts and even Modernism Week celebrate the chic style
that’s yours to recreate if that’s
what you’re after.
Rhinestone sunglasses not
included.

Desert Modernism
It just never goes out of style.
Clean lines, simple design, soaring
roofs and integrated indoor to outdoor
living spaces. Those were the distinctive
aesthetics that describe the work of
visionary architects and developers
who lived and worked in mid-century Palm Springs. Names
like Alexander, Cody, Krisel, Lautner, Neutra, Palmer, Wexler,
Williams and Kaptur all designed unique homes and work
spaces in the mid-century modern style, specifically designed
for life here in the desert.
Palm Springs is so well-known for the mid-century style, in fact,
that no less than the National Trust for Historic Preservation
has named Palm Springs one of the country’s “Distinctive
Destinations”.
In addition to private and self-guided tours, you can stay at
one of the historic inns dotting the city. Aficionados will also
want to see the Palm Springs Art Museum, Santa Fe Federal
Bank Building, La Plaza Center and Theater, Kaufman House,
Loewy House,
Albert Frey #2,
and of course,
the iconic Palm
Springs Visitors
Center.
Golfing
Nothing beats a nice drive in the desert.
Golf in Palm Springs is a wonderful combination of the game
and the style. The desert-scented air, the views, the flora and
fauna are as much a part of the experience as the game itself.
Tahquitz Creek Golf
Resort has both links and
traditional country club
style courses, with stunning
views of the snow-topped
mountains in winter. The
contemporary clubhouse at
Escena Golf Club is a cool
marriage of glass, stone
and steel, surrounded by a
Nicklaus-designed course.
The Indian Canyons courses are tucked into the base of the
San Jacinto Mountains, and meander through stylish midcentury modern homes.
Whether as a single, with a partner or just meeting up with
new friends to make up a foursome, you’ll find desert golf a
wonderfully unique experience. And well worth the trip no
matter how far you’ve come.

Spas
Palm Springs is a wonderful place to wash
the rest of the world off.
People come to Palm Springs to relax.
To sooth jangled nerves. To leave the rest
of the world far, far behind. And what
better way to do just that than to enjoy
some time at one of our many spas.
Pamper yourself at any number of wonderful hotel spas in
Palm Springs. Celebrity hideaways that attend to your tired
body’s every need. Facial studios that smooth more than
furrowed brows. Whatever you seek, you’ll find it here.
Enjoy the “Taking of the Waters” as travelers have for over a
century now, soaking in the naturally therapeutic hot mineral
waters that abound in our untouched desert oasis.
Rejuvenate body and soul. Rinse and repeat.

Tribal History
A proud legacy that lives on.
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians settled in
this desert paradise centuries ago, but established a
tradition of co-existence when the first settlers arrived in
the late 1800s.
Today the tribal and city
governments continue
to work hand-in-hand
to ensure protection of
the resources that long
ago created the valley,
while building for the
future. The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum in the heart
of the city gives a peek into the photographs, paintings,
clothing and Indian ware from the earliest days of
Palm Springs.
The tribe flourishes today and welcomes visitors the
world over to share this remarkable paradise.
Experience the Agua Caliente Cahuilla Indians
•
Take a ranger-led tour of discovery through the ancient
palm groves, and explore the streams and waterfalls at
Indian Canyons or Tahquitz Canyon.
•
Learn about the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians
through exhibitions, collections, research, and educational
programs at the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum in
downtown Palm Springs.
•
Indulge in the hot mineral waters as you experience the
“Taking of the Waters” at The Spa at Spa Resort Casino.
•
Attend the annual Festival of Native Film and Culture
in March featuring Native Americans and other
indigenous people.

Casino, or golf at the two signature courses at the

Hiking
Tell your kids to go take a hike.
And join them.
If you’re coming to Palm Springs to get away from
it all, go ahead and get away from it all.
Take a hike where it’s as ancient and awesome
as you can imagine. The lush greenery of the
native palms provides a dramatic backdrop to the
stark rocky gorges and desert’s mountains. Indian
Canyons and Tahquitz Canyon each have their
own distinctive style and secluded beauty.
Or how about going from bikinis to parkas in
10 minutes? Soar up the face of Mt. San Jacinto
on the remarkable Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
The 8,500-foot journey takes you to another
world completely, with miles of alpine hiking trails,
family snow fun in the winter and incredible views
all year-round.
Palm Canyon
And one short hour from Palm Springs, where the
Mojave and Colorado deserts join, lies the iconic
Joshua Tree National Park. Shaped by strong
winds, torrents of rain and climatic extremes, surreal
geologic features meet a rich cultural history.
This is no theme park. This is real.

Boutique Hotels
and Inns
We happen to think offering resort
experiences in small, medium, large –
or 50-years-old, for that matter –
truly sets us apart.
Small inns abound in Palm Springs, and many are
historically significant. From 100-year-old adobe inns
to 1920s jewels to Mediterranean inspired villas,
these are small treasures not to be missed. Inns with
bougainvillea draped patios are tucked in next to hip,
cool mid-century classics. Others reflect the Spanish
architecture that dominated the early 20th century.
And all feature service and amenities that are warm,
welcoming, and offer something for every pocketbook.
Most are independently owned and operated, and
all are less than fifty rooms --- some a mere handful of
rooms surrounding the definitive Palm Springs pool
– giving you the personal attention and memorable
experience of a desert oasis resort not found in
larger hotels.
The boutique inns and intimate hotels in and around
downtown Palm Springs are nestled at the base of the
majestic Mount San Jacinto. The distinctive architecture,
the individual personalities, and the affordable luxury
of these small jewels all shine through the moment you
arrive at their doorsteps.
Like the boutique hotels and inns, Palm Canyon Drive
and other distinctive districts place shopping, dining,
entertainment, gaming and more at everyone’s
doorstep. Whatever you choose, you’ll be reminded
on a daily basis just how good life can be under the
desert’s sun, moon and stars.

Convention &
Full-service Resorts
Conventions and sales meetings take
on a whole different complexion here.
Mostly tan.
If you’re looking for a meeting experience attendees
will remember for years, take it out of the city.
Bring it to Palm Springs. Where you’ll find our Palm
Springs Convention Center just a mile and a half from
our Palm Springs International Airport. With 1600
convention hotel and resort guest rooms within walking
distance. And all mere blocks from the heart of
downtown and historic Palm Canyon Drive.
And if you’re the type of traveler that enjoys the larger
things in life and full-service amenities around you, look no
further than our collection of world-class resorts. Take in a
workout at the gym, lay by the pool, or enjoy a spa day —
your choice awaits you.
It’s a place of supernatural beauty. With ideal weather,
gorgeous mountain backdrops and a charming village
feel with more than enough to do for even the most jaded
of conventioneers. A place where outside the meeting
will be every bit as spectacular as inside.

Mid-size Hotels
& Resorts
When the going gets tough, the tough
find a really nice place to recharge.
Palm Springs and its many, many, many hotels and
motels have any number of terrific places for you to
lay your weary head.
Conveniently positioned between the charming little
boutiques and the larger full-service resorts and
convention offerings, is this wonderful collection of
mid-sized hotels and resorts.
Many of them are the Palm Springs outposts of wellknown national chains. Many of them decidedly
individual with everything from bicycles on the
premises to comfy saline swimming pools to
cozy fireplaces.
Some uniquely Palm Springs retro. Some with
restaurants right on the property. Some with
superbly relaxing spas.
Family friendly. Business friendly. Wedding friendly.
And many Fido and Fluffy friendly. It’s all here.
Not too tiny. Not too big. Just right. The Goldilocks
of accommodations.
And as with all things Palm Springs, all delightfully
situated just south of the sun, moon and stars.

Palm Springs vacation homes and condo rentals are an
affordable alternative that offers the ambience of a full
service resort and the privacy only a home can offer for
your friends and family.
Let your day begin with breakfast on a private patio
nestled against the majestic mountains. By afternoon,
the kids are splashing around the pool while the adults
are playing golf or shopping. Or sipping cocktails at a
downtown bistro. Or simply enjoying a little R&R under
the palms.
It’s a wonderful way to experience all that Palm Springs
has to offer. It can become one of the best value
vacations you’ve ever experienced, with a private
home all to yourselves.
You have thousands of vacation homes to choose from.
All styles and sizes. Private backyards and pools.
Even former celebrity homes are yours for the asking
– Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, Dinah Shore and Marilyn
Monroe to name drop a few. Some homes include
spacious movie rooms. Others boast concierges and
private chefs. They’re the perfect choice for your multigenerational vacation.
With literally thousands of professionally managed and
privately owned homes and condos to choose from
for your Palm Springs vacation, there’s certainly no
shortage of opportunities. And in all prices and sizes
and styles, from comfy condo to cottage, castle to
mid-century modern.

LGBT Hotels,
Resorts & Inns
You don’t just visit Palm Springs.
You breathe it in.
Palm Springs has long been considered California’s
ultimate desert playground for the gay and lesbian
traveler. A virtual oasis for the visitor looking for a
casual, fun-filled vacation. Blessed with gorgeous
weather, stunning blue skies and year round sunshine,
the desert’s natural beauty sets the stage to explore
ancient palm groves, blooming desert vistas and
majestic mountains.
Our vibrant village has an urban sensibility with
everything from fashion boutiques to shops offering
home furnishings from the mid-century modernism
movement. Find art galleries, theaters and museums
of every genre. And it’s filled with a world of
entertainment, from intimate venues to large dance
clubs, from outdoor cafes to casinos, from gay-owned
bistros and restaurants to world-renowned LGBT
events. It’s as if this whole city, this whole playground,
was built just for you.
You’ll find over 25 gay and lesbian resorts and
inns, waiting to welcome visitors to our little oasis.
From historic properties to Mediterranean inspired
villas to mid-century gems, all feature service and
amenities that are both warm and welcoming. All are
independently owned and operated, and designed
with fewer than twenty rooms (some a mere handful)
surrounding the definitive Palm Springs pool.
There’s no better way, in fact, to cap off a long
day of play than with a nice, cool poolside cocktail
with friends before you regroup and hit the town.
