CONNECT VOL 3 | ISSUE 1 Tons in Store for 2016! Happy belated New Year! There is so much to look forward in 2016 at Wings of Hope. February 13th will mark the 14th Annual Dinner Auction and Gala titled “A Night For Miracles”. I’ll be sure to share pictures and stories with you in the next issue of Connect. Then hopefully you can join us on March 12 when we will guide our giant airplane-shaped balloon in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade downtown St. Louis. If you enjoy golfing, then consider creating a four-some in The Greater St. Louis Business Aviation Association (GSLBAA) 40th golf open to benefit Wings of Hope. It will take place in June. Then, Ladies only will attend our 3rd annual Ladies Luncheon will also take place in the summer. In early September, the downtown Hilton’s rooftop restaurant, Three-Sixty, will host the 2nd Annual End-of-Summer Luau to benefit the MAT Program. What else is on the horizon? Let’s see – hundreds of MAT flights of course! Champions For Kids play a major role in the success of the Medical Relief and Air Transport (MAT) Program so you will learn about some of the kids you support in each Connect issue of 2016. Meet Alex UPCOMING EVENTS Alex is 12 years old and loves sports—especially basketball. At age 5, Alex started getting a lot of colds and fever and his doctor just thought he had a virus. But after repeated trips to the doctor he was finally diagnosed with Stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Seven months of chemotherapy sent his cancer into remission. Just before Alex turned 10, the cancer returned. A doctor at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital suggested he get tested for a rare immune disorder that only affects boys (X-linked lymphoproliferative disease, or XLP ) and causes lymphomas in about a third of those who have it. Alex tested positive. So, he endured another 6 months of chemo before getting a bone marrow transplant from his sister, Jenna, at Cincinnati Children’s—an XLP center of excellence. We have flown Alex four round trips to Cincinnati since he was diagnosed with XLP. We also flew Jenna to Cincinnati for the transplant—and his father for a visit while Alex and his mother spent four months at the hospital. Today, Alex is cancer free and back on the basketball court! As a CFK, please know that your support provided a path for healing and hope for Alex. Thank You!
