I was the first store manager of the Blue Hill Co-op in Maine and then served on the Board of Directors for 3 years. I have seen, firsthand, how a food co-op builds community by supporting local farmers and food producers and how the Co-op becomes a venue for community action and involvement. I believe my experience with governance policy and store management would be an asset to your team. I am passionate about community. Community encompasses many different things for me. It is as simple as being the welcoming neighborhood home (the one with the TV!) for the child sports enthusiast, to making most of my purchases at locally owned businesses. If elected to the Board, my focus would be on creating a Co-op that welcomes diversity and becomes the hub for social interaction and change. I will continue to work on the Healthy Food Access for All and encourage membership to get involved in the GMO labeling effort. Anton Elbers, Alstead, 42-year resident Owner, Orchard Hill Farm I wish to support the continued development of connections between local growers & producers and consumers and feel the co-op is an ideal outlet for their products. I have been involved in growing food for the past 42 years and living in cooperative community for most of that time. I was part of the group process creating The Orchard School and brought Policy Governance to the Board to strengthen the organization in its early years. I have served on the Board with a break for 5 years and have served in different roles on the board depending on the need. I’m currently Treasurer on the Board of Trustees of The Orchard School. Photo by Steve Hooper Sarah Harpster, Keene, 7-year resident Gleaning Coordinator,The Community Kitchen, Inc. My goal is to help build up strength and resilience in my community, and I feel most strongly about building a strong local food system that especially supports local growers that carefully steward the land while providing for the nutritional needs of their community, while also increasing the access of all community members to fresh, healthy food options. I am passionate about fairness, the holistic well-being of individual people, families, organizations, and communities, the holistic well-being of species, natural communities, and ecosystems, and creative expression, especially when it is applied to making delicious food with fresh ingredients. You will often find me making an extra effort to cook for a community meeting or “dinner train” for someone who is unwell. I have really gotten to live my passions starting this summer in my new role as a Gleaning Coordinator for The Community Kitchen. In this role, I help bring fresh, local produce to community members who are experiencing food insecurity, while helping local producers avoid wasting produce that is no longer marketable. This is the most fulfilling role I have experienced. view ballot on next page ballot Voting Instructions Each Member-Owner is allocated one vote only and must be a paidin-full member (fully vested member) to be eligible to vote.
