J i —an
ardent
devotee of Sri Ram, Sita,
Lakshman, and Hanuman will present Sri
Ram Katha (the Ramyana) in HINDI, from
17-25 September, 2011 at the Whitlam
Leisure Centre, Liverpool. He will be
accompanied by musicians/singers to
recite the Katha in his style that is enjoyed
by the devotees all over the world.
Young Moraridas (Bapu) started learning
the Ramayana from his grandfather when
he was only five years old. Dada
(grandfather) would teach Bapu five
Chopais (couplets) to be memorized daily,
with meaning. Nearest school was 2kms
from Bapu’s home. As he walked to the
school, he would recite the Chopais to the
trees and plants on the way! Bapu could
recite the Ram Charit Maanas by heart at
the young of age of twelve. He delivered
his first recital on a platform made of mud
with a portrait of Sri Ram, to herdsmen.
That place is now a Mandir called Ram
Vaadi—orchard of Ram. Soon the word
spread around about his knowledge and
skills in reciting the
Ramayna.
Bapu is an eloquent speaker
to present the Ramayana in
a
style
that
is
comprehensible to audience
from all walks of life—
children, young or adults. He
has presented several
Kathas in India, UK, USA
and various regions of the
world, including at the holy
Mansarovar/Kailash Parvat
in 1997. Wherever he goes,
halls are filled with audience
and echo with his melodious voice. He
shows that the principles of leading life
during the Ramayana time are applicable
in our modern life style and to guide us for
a pious life.
His entire living is to bring many different
branches and sects of religion (even of
other faiths) and the different levels of
society to a common ground of undivided
understanding, love and unity. He shows a
way of uniting not just one nation, but the
entire human race, while at the same time,
preserving their individuality. He refers to
his Ram Katha as a prem yagna where
people gather in the name of love and
expressly calls out to humanity for love
and respect for each other.

G
ayatri Mantra is named in glory of the
Ved Maata (mother) Gayagtri, of the
four Veda. It is one of the most popular
and powerful Mantra. It originates from
the Rig Ved although the importance of
this divine hymn is also elucidated in
Yajurveda samhita (3.35), and in
Sūryopanişad of Atharvaveda and in
Nārāyanopanişad (hymn
35).
In the Bhagavad Gita,
Lord Krishna proclaimed
to Arjuna - "Among all the
mantras, I am the
Gayatri".
The syllables of the
mantra are said to
positively affect all the
chakras or energy centres
in the human body.
Hence,
proper
pronunciation
and
enunciation are very
important.
It possesses mighty
potential to lead the
reciter to the peak of
spiritual heights, besides
passing on him/her many
materialistic
benefits.
Meaning
The Gayatri Mantra consists of twenty-four
syllables - three lines of eight syllables
each.

Who is self-existent, Who is free from all
pains and Whose contact frees the soul
from all troubles, Who pervades the
Universe and sustains all, the Creator and
Energizer of the whole Universe, the Giver
of happiness, Who is worthy of
acceptance, the most excellent, Who is
Pure and the Purifier of all, let us embrace
that very God, so that He may direct our
mental faculties in the right direction.
Literal meaning of its syllabi is:
Aum = Brahma ;
bhoor = embodiment of vital spiritual
energy(pran) ;
bhuwah = destroyer of
sufferings ;
swaha = embodiment of
happiness ;

dheemahi = may imbibe ;
pertains to meditation
dhiyo = intellect ;

"dhiyo yo na prachodayat" is a prayer to
God
Meaning and interpretation
1. AUM (ॐ), the Supreme name of God.
2. BHUR (भरू )्
Bhur implies existence. God is selfexistent and independent of all. He is
eternal and unchanging. Without
beginning and without end, God exists as
a continuous, permanent, constant entity.
Bhur also means the Earth, on which we
are born and sustained.
3. BHUVAH (भव
ु :)
Bhuvah describes the absolute
Consciousness of God. God is selfConscious as well as being Conscious of
all else, and thus is able to control and
govern the Universe. Bhuvah is also

indicative of God's role as the remover of all
pain and sufferings (Apaana).
4. SWAH ( व:)
Swah indicates the all-pervading nature of
God. He is omnipresent and pervades the
entire multi-formed Universe. God is able to
manifest Himself through the medium of the
physical world, and is thus present in each and
every physical entity. In this way, God is able
to interact with the Universe created by Him,
and thus sustain and control it, ensuring its
smooth and proper operation.
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM (त सिवतव
ु रर् े यं)
5. TAT (तत ् s.1)
Tat indicates that the worshipper is referring to
God, and that the praise being offered to God
in the prayer is purely directed towards Him,
without thought of gaining any personal benefit
from that praise.
6. SA-VI-TUR (सिवतुर ् s.2-4)
Savita, from which Savitur is derived, is
another name of God, this being the reason
that the Gayatri Mantra is often known as the
Savitri Mantra. Savita is God's status as the
fountain, the source of all things. It is through
His Divine Grace that the Universe exists, and
so this word sums up the Mahavyahriti, by
describing God's ability to create the Universe
and sustain it, as well as, at the right time,
bring about its dissolution. It is the power of
Savita that enables mankind to distinguish
right from wrong, and vice from virtue.
7. VA-RE-NY-AM (वरे यं s.5-8)
Varenyam signifies our acceptance of God,.
We have chosen Him to be our Leader and our
Guide. We place our all into His hands, and
accept Him regardless of anything else. We
place no conditions on this acceptance, as it is
all out of sheer devotion.
BHARGO DEVASYA DHIMAHI (भग दे व य
धीमिह)
8. BHAR-GO (भग s.1,2)
Bhargo is the Glorious Light that is God's love
and power. Being absolutely pure Himself,
God has the ability to purify those that come
into contact with Him. Bhargo is indicative of
God's power to purify, and to destroy all sins
and afflictions.
9. DE-VAS-YA (दे व य s.3-5)
Deva is indicative of the various multifaceted
entity that is the absolute Personality of God.
10. DHI-MA-HI (धीमिह s.6-8)
Means to meditate and focus our mind on
God. Meditation on God implies that we
remove all other thoughts from our mind, since
thoughts of the world render our mind impure,
and thus we are unable to conceptualize the
absolute purity of God.
DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYAT (धीयो यो न:
प्रचोदयात ्)
11. DHI-YO (धीयो s.1,2)
Sanskrit for "intellect", this is the essence of
this part of the Gayatri Mantra. Having firmly
set God in our hearts, we now must try to
emphasize His presence and influence on our
mind and intellect.
12. YO (यो s.3)
"Who" or "That", Yo signifies yet again that it
is not to anyone else that we direct these
prayers, but to God alone.
13. NAH (न: s.4)
Nah means "Ours", and signifies the
selflessness of the request we make of God in
this part of the Gayatri Mantra. We offer this
prayer, and make the request of God, not
simply for ourselves, but for all the humanity.
14. PRA-CHO-DA-YAT (प्रचोदयात ् s.5-8)
We ask Him for Guidance, and Inspiration. We
ask that, by showing us His Divine and
Glorious Light (cf. BHARGO), He remove the
darkness of Maya from our paths, that we are
able to see the way, and in this manner, we
ask Him to direct our energies in the right way,
guiding us through the chaos of this world, to
find sanctuary in the tranquility and peace of
God Himself, the root of all Happiness, and the
source of true Bliss.
Chanting of Gayatri Mantra removes all
obstacles in our path to increased wisdom and
spiritual growth and development. The
teachings and powers incorporated in the
Gayatri Mantra fulfill this purpose, protect us
from harm wherever we are, make our intellect
shine, improve your power of speech, and
dispel the darkness of ignorance (Dhiyoyonah
prachodayaath)!

has
special
significance in our worship and
prayers. Why a ritual has to be repeated
108 times? Some reasons are indicated
below.
said to be a total of 108 energy lines
converging to form the heart chakra. One
of them, sushumna leads to the crown
chakra, and is said to be the path to Selfrealization.
.In one minute, we breathe in
approximately 15 times, in 1 hour 900
times and in 12 hours 10800 times, and in
a day 10800 * 2 times. A day consists
of 24 hours, and if we set aside half the
day for our day to day routines,
then one can spend 12 hours for recitation
of
one’s
idol.
Therefore,
the
maximum number of times that one can
recite “mantra”, or perform “Jap” are
10800. If one wants to obtain 100% benefit
of
its
jap,
then
performing
jap 108 times provides the full benefit.
That’s why in a Mala (Rosary),
there are 108 beads.
.Sanskrit alphabet: There are 54 letters in
the Sanskrit alphabet. Each has masculine
and feminine, shiva and shakti. 54 times 2
is 108.
.Astronomically,
there
are
27
constellations in our galaxy, and each has
4 directions, and 27 * 4 = 108, In other
words the number 108 covers the whole
galaxy.
.Breath: Tantra estimates the average
number of breaths per day at 21,600, of
which 10,800 are solar energy, and 10,800
are lunar energy. Multiplying 108 by 100 is
10,800. Multiplying 2 x 10,800 equals
21,600.
.Digit 9 corresponds to Lord Brahma (the
creator of universe). Mathematically, the
interesting
property
of
9
is
9
×

2

18
(8+1
=
9)
9=2 0* 3 = 27 (7+2 = 9)
9 * 12 = 108 (1+0+8 = 9)
.Desires: There are said to be 108 earthly
desires in mortals.
.Heart Chakra: The chakras are the
intersections of energy lines, and there are
.Pranayama: If one is able to be so calm in
meditation as to have only 108 breaths in
a day, enlightenment will dawn.
.Time: There are 108 feelings, with 36
related to the past, 36 related to the
present, and 36 related to the future.
.Meditations: There are 108 styles of
meditation.
.Stages of the soul: Human soul goes
through 108 stages on the journey.
.Keeping
the
importance
of
number 9, Sage Vyas has created 9
Purans,
108
Upnishd.
Mahabharat has 18 chapters, Geeta has
18 chapters, Bhagavat has 108000
Shloks (verses).
.The addition of digits of number 108 is 9,
and number 9 is related with
Brahma.
This is perfect, that is also perfect.
Perfection comes from perfection.
Take perfection out of perfection,
Remainder remains perfect.
