If it fits, we print it. 2003-04 Uller Champs 2005 Dummy Downhill Winner 2008-09 Uller Champs 2009-2010 Uller Champs A bit late Jan 2011 We Prayed for Snow WHAT A FUN PRAY FOR SNOW PARTY thanks to Ric and Suzanne. We had a terrific turnout of ski enthusiasts and an abundance of food (yummy meatballs Suzanne), drinks, and desserts. John C. even made little “preay for snow” flags for his velvet cupcakes. That kind of positive thinking and cheer should deliver us a wonderful ski season. Thank you everyone for participating and especially the Agardy’s for hosting! IN FEBRUARY THERE IS A CHANGE in the TGIF location. Still on the 18th but at Silvio’s in Hermosa Beach. Doug enjoys the variety of beverages on tap, including some local brews. I love the awesome tropical drinks. This will be our first ski club TGIF at Silvio’s with hopefully many more to follow. Invite a friend ! That’s it for now Teeda Hosts http://www.aeaclubs.org/ski So We Got SNOW SKI & RACE CAMP I DECIDED TO GO to Ski and Race Camp this year. It was my first time and it definitely will not be my last. The week was a blast. Everyone receives 5 days of lessons in skiing, racing, or a combo of both. I did all skiing. It was well worth it, I learned so many little tips on how to improve my skiing. The weather started out sunny and warm with hard packed conditions, and by the end of the week, at least 6 feet of snow had fallen SNOW Continued Page two or 2 Dealing with leftovers Some of the camp followers Closing Tusks More ―Pray‖ photos SOMEWHERE LAST ISSUE? It is if you haven’t renewed PHOTOS TGIF—Doug Pray—Frank, Someone else Mammoth—Lisa, John C. Dump Alert Dump Alert IT SNOWED IN THEM HILLS! Be sure to sign-up early for the Mammoth trips. Since the whole Board will be away skiing (except for Wayne doing his taxes) there will be no meeting in Feb. Join us again in March to hear about what happened to us. Also remember, there are two trips in March, seats available. This will be your last issue if you don’t renew. Tracy Dec TGIF From the prior page and we were skiing the fresh powder in blizzard conditions. It was a great week for lessons on a variety of snow conditions. I think the AEA Ski Club was well represented that week as we had the largest number of attendees compared to the other ski clubs, which made for a fun time after the mountain closed. During the week, we received discounts on drinks, food, and a 50% discount on demo skis which many of us took advantage of. I will be there next year. Good times!!!! MAMMOTH Jan 7 – 9 WOW OH WOW OH WOW…. What a fantastic weekend to kick off the season with our first of five bus trips to Mammoth. The bus ride up went smoothly aside from Andrew Dawdy getting food poisoning 2 hours into to bus ride. We all felt really bad for him. We had several new people on the bus which was nice to see. Stella, one of the newbies, won the arrival pool. It had nothing to do with beginners luck, she happened to be sitting next to veteran Frank Goroszko and picked one minute after him. She figured he knew what he was doing. Her strategy worked. Saturday morning we woke up to blue skies and very little wind. “To The Top” was my plan, “Who wants to come with me?” Doug Martoccia followed and we did the top of the mountain tour. Mark Williams and Kurt Lautenbach joined us in the afternoon. Everyone raved about how good the ski conditions were all day. I couldn’t agree more. Mark W., John Nolan and a few others tested out the new Mammoth iPhone App [Mammoth2go]. It tracked where they were on the mountain, speed, miles skied and several other cool things. If you have an iphone, try it out. I was lucky enough to get a kiss from Ron (friend of the club) who works at the Gondola on every ride I took. John Nolan was jealous, so Ron gave him a kiss at the condo party. A new thing we are trying this year is having the group dinner all together in one condo. I ordered in tacos and enchiladas from Robertos Mexican Restaurant and it worked out really well. Everyone seemed to like the idea even though we were all piled into one condo. Thanks Deb Williams and Doug for helping with the clean up. On Sunday, those ugly Mammoth winds showed up which made skiing the top not so inviting. But the winds did allow for some excellent wind blown powder skiing on several runs. The consensus was Chair 9 had the best conditions: sunny, not too windy, and great snow. I also want to thank Roy for bringing some great movies for the ride home. We watched “The Fighter” and the new version of “True Grit”. Come and join us the next bus trip, or the one after that….its been a great season so far, you don’t want to miss it. Mammoth has the most snow in the world.
