Correlieu Auto Students Learn from the One of the Best
Students at Correlieu Secondary School get the opportunity to work with a champion.
Andy Closkey, auto shop teacher at Correlieu Secondary, was this year’s Western
Canadian Champion in his drag racing class.
Andy Closkey racing in Memphis, Tennes-
Recently Mr Closkey raced in the North
American championships in Memphis,
Tennessee where he placed third losing only
to the eventual North American Champion.
Little wonder that the Correlieu auto shop
classes are always full. In addition to being
able to bring in and fix their own vehicles,
students can work on and build authentic drag
race cars.

Curriculum Update
The Ministry of Education has been working with
teachers from across the province to review and
rewrite curriculum for all grade levels. The redesign of
curriculum and assessment focuses on the
competencies that are vital to personal and social
success, life-long learning, and to the changing
workplace. The Ministry recently released the new
curriculum frameworks for Language Arts, Math, and
Social Studies K-9. These are currently in draft so that
educators have an opportunity to provide feedback to
the Ministry. Curriculum documents can be accessed
through the following link: www.curriculum.gov.bc.ca.
Green Tip Of The Week:
Does it take more energy to
turn a light back on than is
saved by turning it off for a
short period of time?
No. For most home lighting,
there is no extra energy draw
when a light is switched on.
While fluorescent lamps do use
a tiny bit more upon start-up, if
the light is off for more than a
few minutes, you'll save energy.
