Pollution and noise reduction by decreasing the number of cars stopping at intersections. Outdoor equipment provides data about traffic lights, traffic lights controllers and traffic sensors and monitoring of real-time for emergency response. Improving traffic conditions for public transport (buses, trolleybuses) increasing the speed of traffic, with priority at intersections. Information for drivers via VMS about traffic conditions, optimal route and etc., information on the website. Increasing public safety by monitoring of problematic intersections via video surveillance cameras, rapidly respond to traffic problems, accidents. Traffic managment system for Vilnius municipality Traffic management center (1) Traffic lights (207 posts) Car traffic sensors, traffic lights and traffic controllers; Variable messages signs system (13) Traffic monitoring system (53 cameras at 22 intersections) Information system for drivers (www.sviesoforai.lt) Speed control and red light detection system (12) There were defined six main transport corridors for better optimization of traffic flow: • Corridor 1: International Vilnius airport – Žaliasis bridge; • Corridor 2: Žaliasis bridge–Kalvarijų st. • Corridor 3: Žaliasis bridge- Arsenalo st. – Antakalnio st. – Nemenčinės av. (till Saulėtekio av.) • Corridor 4: Basanavičiaus st. (from Švitrigailos st.)–Savanorių av.(till Riovonių st.) • Corridor 5: Vasario 16-osios st. – Tauro st. – Mindaugo st. – Šopeno st. – Pylimo st. – Vilniaus st. • Corridor 6: Central city part. Centralized traffic management system at first will be installed in these 6 corridors. Other traffic light posts will be connected to this system with the possibility to create new corridors. Traffic management center • Vilnius city’s real-time traffic monitoring via 53 video cameras. • Development of existing traffic corridors and creation of new ones. • Collecting and processing of data from traffic detectors, ensuring effective operation of the system • Centralized coordination of traffic lights operation cycles in 207 intersections. • Management of drivers information on VMS and information presentation in website www.sviesoforai.lt. Traffic monitoring system system At this moment they have: • 14 controlled video cameras; • 38 stationary cameras ; Video cameras Variable messages signs Information about: •Complicated driving conditions; •Recommended detour; •Road works; •Travel time to the important objects; •Emergency information for drivers. •Weather condicions; We have: • 9 small VMS (15 x 4 symbols) •4 big VMS (18 x 3 symbols) Drivers information system in WEB Driver information system for residents and visiotrs trough web: • Possibility to observe traffic situation on Vilnius city streets; • Fastest and shortest travel route planning; • Optimal driving route planning according real time and historical traffic data; • Publishing traffic accident locations on the map (Integration with traffic accidents registration system); • Publishing road works and traffic restrictions on the map; • Images from traffic video cameras; • Parking information; • Public transport information. There is a function to print the whole or selected section of the route.
