U.S. universities will graduate about 400,000 computer scientists between 2010 and
2020, a decade during which 1.4 million U.S. computing jobs will open up, leaving a
gap of about a million computing jobs.

CODE Film Logline
CODE exposes the dearth of American female and minority software engineers and explores the reasons for this
gender gap. CODE raises the question: what would society gain from having more women code?
CODE Synopsis
CODE CODE is a relevant and timely feature-length documentary which
aims to explain why more American women and minorities are not
pursuing careers in computer science, despite lucrative job
opportunities and high demand for coders.
Many factors contribute to this dearth, including cultural stereotypes,
lack of role models, limited access to computer science education,
sexism and socioeconomic barriers. Consciously and subconsciously,
women and minorities feel they do not belong in programming despite
their aptitude for the field. CODE documentary explores how technology would be different if a
more diverse field of programmers coded the applications and devices
upon which society depends.

Robin Hauser Reynolds, Director / Producer
Robin directed, produced and managed the documentary feature, Running for Jim, which recently won 13
awards at 16 film festivals in the U.S. and abroad. As both a business woman (MBA) and a longtime professional
photographer, Robin brings her creative eye and leadership skills to this film project. BA UC Berkeley ‘86, MBA

Staci Hartman, Producer
Staci has over 15 years experience in the tech industry working in various marketing roles at Apple, HP and
Tektronix. Producer and Outreach Coordinator on the Running for Jim Documentary project. BA UC Berkeley
‘86.
Jon Blomgren, Director of Photography
Jon’s cinematography turns ordinary scenics into visual artistry. His footage has appeared on ESPN E:60, Sports
Center, network television and in the documentary film, Running for Jim. Jon’s corporate clients include United
Nations Foundation, Draft FCB, BSSP, Voxer, and Applied Fusion. Chapman University, Dodge College of Film
and Media Arts.
Jack Youngelson, Story Consultant
Jack is an Emmy winning writer, producer, and director. His credits include Ghosts of Abu Ghraib (which
premiered at Sundance 2007), Tierney Gearon: The Mother Project, McConkey, and Mission Blue. His projects
have appeared on HBO, PBS, A&E, Bravo, BBC, and Channel Four. Princeton University ’90.

Christie Herring is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and editor. Her filmography includes The
Campaign, Waking in Mississippi, Chickens in the City, Howdy Partner, and Bodies and Souls. Christie has taught
workshops at Stanford University, the Duke Center for Documentary Studies, and San Diego State University.
She received her MA in Documentary Filmmaking from Stanford University.
Lou Wirth, Advising Editor
Lou has been producing, directing and editing television and corporate media for over 3 decades. His work has
appeared on Discovery, Lifetie, VH-1, ABC, NBC, PBS, HGTV and the History Channel. His corporate clients
include Oracle, Adobe, LucasFilm and Walmart. Lou edited the Running for Jim Documentary.
Steven Berlin Johnson, Advisor
Steven is a best selling science and technology author and media theorist. His history of innovation has inspired
a six-part series on PBS, How We Got to Now (Fall 2014). Steven lends his profound knowledge of startup
technology and his production experience to this documentary team.
Kris Timken, Advisor
Timken is a visual artist and scholar who has presented her scholarship and exhibited her artwork throughout
the United States and Europe. Grounded in anti-racist practice, her work explores coalition dynamics,
community building, and identity. She holds a dual MFA/MA in Social Practice and Visual and Critical Studies
from the California College of Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in History from Stanford.
