IP due diligence and market assessment tools
Strengths
- Very high sentitivity
- Sensor technology within the
device is patented
- Device components are CE marked
and have ISO 90001 accrediation
- Anticipated low-end price point
- Association with CERN affords
status and credibility
- Sensor probe thickness is currently
an issue
- Regulatory approval for use of the
device is not in place for all major
markets (e.g. FDA in the USA)
- Lack of dedicated marketing
department to promote the device
Opportunities
Threats
- Anticipated online functionality will
allow real-time measurements
- Device itself is not patent-protected
- Clinical diagnosis requires highly
sensitive devices
Patent landscape for high frequency RFQ
Weaknesses
- Several large competitors offer a
similar product (e.g. IBA, PTW)

Internal CERN KT Fund
• Introduced in 2011, reinvest resources generated by the
exploitation of CERN IP portfolio
• To fund projects to build proof of concepts or prototypes; overall
target: bringing CERN technologies closer to the market
• Requests are evaluated by a Committee composed by all the
Department Heads and members of the KT Group
• In total, 25 projects have been supported since 2011
• Available money per selection round is typically 500 kCHF
• Selection Committee usually meets once or twice per year
