First annual Ironstone Derby
First annual Ironstone Derby And they’re off... Ironstone Farm on May 3, 2014 launched its first Ironstone Derby. The Ironstone Derby is now an annual road race and Kentucky Derby party on the day of the Kentucky Derby horse race. The slogan? Run for the Roses, Stay for the Party! This year people could choose a 5-mile run or a 2-mile walk through Lowell, beginning and ending at LeLacheur Park, the home of the Lowell Spinners baseball team, a Single A Red Sox affiliate. After the races, people enjoyed an all-you-can eat Derby Sponsors • Lowell Spinners • DMSE Sports • Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt • Blue Cross Blue Shield Massachusetts • NetScout Systems • Wheelabrator • Trinity EMS • 99 Restaurants • Lowell General Hospital barbecue feast, or concession food. Kids had their faces painted and made and raced their own stick horses. Then, everyone was able to watch the Kentucky Derby on the new Jumbotron. The race and walk were organized by Dave McGillivray and his company, director of the Boston Marathon. “You’ll be the only people to be able to say, in 20 years, you did it each and every year,” McGillivray said to the crowd before the inaugural race. The second Ironstone Derby will be May 2, 2015 - the day of the 2015 Kentucky Derby. • AMD Telemedicine • Knights of Columbus, Andover • All Sports Heroes • A.H.
