Dear Carriage Crest Families:
For those of you who do not know, my name is Robert Gallagher and I am
very excited to be the new Principal at Carriage Crest. I have had the
pleasure to meet with several of you over the past few weeks and many
more of you at the Ice Cream Social that took place on Tuesday. Thank you
to the PTSA for all their hard work in organizing the event. Fun was had by
all!
Over the past few weeks our staff have been working very hard to get the
school ready for today, The First Day of School! It was really exciting to see
all of the faces of the students when they arrived this morning. I made my
way into every classroom and introduced myself to all of our students. I
will do the same thing when our Kindergarten students arrive on campus
next Wednesday.
This year we have many new staff members here at Carriage Crest, but I
want to point out one in particular, Ms. Danielle DeJong. Ms. De DeJong
will be our EA, or Educational Assistant this year. What is an EA? An EA like
one of the students pointed out today is a principal helper. While Ms.
DeJong is not an Assistant Principal, she does have many of the same
responsibilities that an Assistant Principal would have, including planning
and student discipline.
I have included in this newsletter an all staff phone and email list.
My goal for the year is to build relationships, learn about the school and
community and to support our staff in creating the best school possible for
your children. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach
out to me.

What does your teacher do in the Summer?
This summer our librarian and tech specialist, Miss Kelley, and third grade teacher,
Ms. Baker, spent six weeks at the University of Washington participating in an
engineering program. They had the opportunity to use a MakerSpace to create
gravity cars that were tested for speed and distance. They were also taught how to
write computer code so they could control the motorized cars they built. While
immersed in the engineering design process, Miss Kelley and Ms. Baker discovered
the power of making mistakes and learning from those mistakes. Both teachers are
excited to bring their new found expertise back to Carriage Crest!

It is important for the office to have a current email address that you wish
communications to go to. If you are a new parent, sometimes the first
communication may go to your “Junk Mail”. Please review this file frequently
and if you see an email either from the school or the Kent School District,
accept the email so it is recognized. If you are a current parent and have
changed your email, please let the school’s office know right away so we can
have your most current information on file.
Every Thursday, your child will bring home a “Coyote Thursday Folder”. In
this folder there will be important teacher-school-parent communication.
We ask that you review the items in the folder, return any important office
documents, homework assignments, parent signature papers by the
