It is an honour I can never forget. I owe this award to Kishore Namit Kapoor and his academy who have helped groom me into

— TRADE GUIDE/ Film Information.
The impression that you get after a chat with Namit Kapoor, is that you've just spoken to a headshrinker, a psychiatrist.
Carefully, yet articulately expressing himself, Kapoor tells you how he considers every acting teacher to be essentially a
trainer, making the aspirant actor realise his potential and goading him on to give off his best. — COMPLETE
CINEMA.
Kishore Namit Kapur is one of the first few brilliant students of acting who passed out from the Film and Television Institute of
India. He now runs his own State of the Art acting school in Mumbai where he has trained, some of the well-known star-sons
and daughter's, besides others. He has also written a well-researched book on the art of acting. — International Festival of
Short Films On Culture.

The profession of acting is as old as this earth. It was an usual, humid and wet July
evening in Mumbai. The year was 1896 and the place Watson Hotel. The Lumiere
brothers were going to present their show — Moving pictures. This old profession was given a whole
new dimension by the Lumiere brothers.
The awesome experience of moving pictures drove them mad. It was called “Marvel of the Century”.
This “Marvel of the Century” became a household name when in 1913 Dadasaheb Phalke made
“Raja Harishchandra” the first indigenous silent film of India. From 1913 to 1930 scores of silent
movies were made, some with a brilliant spark and some only damp squibs.
Cinema in India took a gigantic step when sound came. Its advent changed the whole gamut of
filmmaking. Now movies were more real and more humane. Prithviraj Kapoor, P. Jairaj, Lalita Pawar
and Sulochana were notable exceptions that made their presence felt even in the talkie-era.
The rise of Kundan Lal Saigal, Motilal and finally Ashok Kumar gave new ramifications to this
nascent industry. In the early forties, the whole scenario went through a sea change due to the rise of
the celebrated triumvirate: Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor. They along with Nargis,
Madhubala and Meena Kumari scaled such dizzy heights that their juniors, barring Amitabh
Bachchan, scampered to reach there.
You are trying to be part of such a dazzling constellation. Believe me, this is not an easy task. Scores
of youngsters swoop on this tinsel town every day and start their struggle with a hope. Soon their
hopes are dashed and they meet an ignominous end.
A dreaded scenario, but true.
It all started in late sixties, when the Government of India decided to open an acting institute in
Pune. It was first of its kind in Asia. When the first batch of the Film and Television Institute of
India (F.T.I.I.), Pune, entered the industry it was greeted by derisive laughter and pejorative
comments. A recalcitrant industry slowly opened its gates and after the stupendous success of
Shatrughan Sinha, Jaya Bhaduri, Danny Denzongpa, Rehana Sultan and Asrani, there was a clamour
for trained artists.
F.T.I.I. Pune was unable to cope up with growing demand because of its limited capacity. The Late
Raj Kapoor was instrumental in starting acting classes in Mumbai.
To pave your way we are presenting some facts about our Institute.
