Woody’s Spillway Camp & Bait ( 765 ) 4736702 is your one stop bait and camp store, with
a Outstanding View of the Mississinewa Dam
in Miami County. Woody’s has been providing a
Family Campground and Bait shop for over 24
years. They have 120 Seasonal Camp Sites. All
the campsites are in a wooded area. Amenities
include clean restrooms and showers, dump
station, children’s playground and a pavilion.
Woody’s provides entertainment on Holiday
Week-Ends.
The Bait store offers a Full Line of fishing
tackle, featuring Name Brands such as Abu
Garcia, Zebco, Okuma, Marine metals,
Shakespeare, Quantum, and Eagle Claw. Stop
by to see Live target Lures, Northland Jigs, Eagle
Claw Hooks, Bee Jay Catfish Bait , Berkley

The Spring Crappie Fishing at Mosquito
Lake can’t be beat. You can catch a cooler

Trout Camp
Cold Creek Trout Camp is located at the
mouth of Cold Creek and the Sandusky Bay,
right across St. Rt. 6 from Margaritaville. Cold
Creek never freezes and stays at 48 degrees.
This fishery is known for its healthy population
of rainbow, brook, and brown trout. During the
Spring the Steelhead work their way in
from the Sandusky Bay. You can fish for only
$5 a day. They have daily, weekly, monthly. and
yearly rates for RV and tent camping, and
dockage. They also have a boat ramp for your
convenience. They are located in the heart of
the vacation land. Be sure you check out Cold

W.R. Hunt Club is a hunting preserve that is
part of a family farm operation .They have an
abundant natural and grain crop residue cover
that provides excellent bird hunting. W.R. Hunt
Club has 400 acres which allow various
hunting operations. They are located in
Sandusky County near Lake Erie’s best fishing
and waterfowl hunting. They are approximately
10 miles from Fremont and 13 miles from
Sandusky. Their prices are very reasonable and
you can’t beat their setup for a fun day of hunting.
They also have a Sporting Clays Course that will
challenge all of your shooting skills. Be sure you

hunting you don’t know what you have been

area at night. Lot’s of nights you can also catch
a stringer full of delicious channel catfish. For
all you fishermen with a boat, they have a boat
ramp about 200 yards from the cottages. This
is a good ramp and the daily ramp fee is very
reasonable. You can run thru the Bay out to Lake
Erie and catch a limit of Walleye or Perch. They
are also located about a 20 minute drive to
the Head Boat Fishing in Port Clinton.

Park Report

Lagoon Deer Park will be opening on April
1st. for your fishing pleasure. Jeff’s Cat Fish
Lake will be stocked full of Delicious Channel
Cats . You can catch dinner by using night
crawlers, stink baits or by fishing a shiner
minnow with a bobber. This makes for a great
trip to take your kids on. Imagine how excited
they will be to catch your supper. Jeff will also
be stocking LOTS of Delicious White Bass
in Early-Spring.
Lagoon Deer Park is conveniently located
west of Sandusky on St. Rt. 269. They are a1/2

around March 20th to the 27th. If you have

more Walleyes going up the Sandusky River

Area Report
Lake Loramie is one of Ohio’s BEST KEPT
SECRETS. Spillway Bait & Tackle is the
place to find out about all of this lakes great
fishing treasures. Lake Loramie is known for
it’s Slab Crappies, “Big” Blue-Gills, and great
Saugeye fishing. Yes, you can catch all the
delicious Channel Cats that you want. This lake
is heavy on fish populations and light on fishing
pressure. Most of the fishing pressure is on the
big Largemouth Bass that this lake is also known
for. Spillway Bait & Tackle is open 7 days a
week for your fishing convenience. They

March the Spring Fishing should be starting
to heat up.

Lakeside General Store is now open for all

Area Report
The Paragon Inn is located at 883 W. Main
Street in Hillsboro, Ohio. They are in close
proximity to both Rocky Fork Lake and Paint
Creek Lake. They have large clean rooms with
either 2 double beds or a king bed. They also
have a large parking lot with plenty of room for
boats. They also have cable tv and Wi-Fi., air
conditioning, microwaves and mini-refrigerators
in their rooms. Be sure you check out The
Paragon Inn the next time you are in the Hillsboro
Area. The Paragon Inn is conveniently located
to the Rocky Fork and Paint Creek State Public
Hunting Areas. They have lots of clean
rooms, but you will still want to call early to
reserve your room. . Be sure you check out
the HUGE parking lot at the Paragon Inn. It
is big enough for Full size RV’s, Buses ans SemiTrucks to park in and even to turn around with
no problems.
Hirn’s Corner Bait and Tackle is located at
St. Rt. 41 & U.S. 50, and they are the area’s
largest bait, tackle, and camping supply store.
They offer gasoline, propane, snacks and pop.
They also have an excellent selection of
fishing tackle. Don’t forget the Spillway at
Paint Creek is a Hot-Spot for Saugeyes and

Dailey Double Paylake will open for the
2016 season on Friday April 1st at noon.
The 2015 season closed with a bang with the
55# & over jar being hit on the last weekend
and a lucky fisherman taking home over $2600
in winnings. Almost weekly last year at least one
fisherman landed a fish over 50#. We are looking
forward to another exciting season this year.
New this year, to simplify ticket pricing, Dailey
Double Paylake will now offer 2 types of tickets:
A Sportsman’s ticket, that is only good for 6 hours
of fishing and NO jackpots for $10, And a Pay
Laker’s ticket, that is good for 12hrs of fishing
with ALL jackpots included for $20, or a 24hr
Pay Laker’s ticket with ALL the jackpots for
$25. Youth ages 7-12 can fish with a $5
sportsman’s ticket, and kids 6 and under are still
FREE with a paid adult.
Dailey Double Paylake is a family friendly
lake, and the owners encourage families to come
out for a day or night, of family fun!
The popular Saturday night tournaments will be
held again this year from 8pm to midnight. The
entry fee is only $10 in addition to your pay
laker’s ticket, with 100% of the entry fees being
paid back for biggest fish caught each hour.
Dailey Double Paylakes are stocked full of fat,
healthy fish that are ready to put up a fight on
the end of your line. These are spring fed lakes
which experience very little fish kill. The big ones
are still in there just waiting to be caught. The
lakes and grounds are kept clean, and the
baithouse is open during all lake hours, and
stocked with a variety of snacks from chips to
sandwiches to pizza. Hot coffee and other drinks
are always available, and there is always
someone ready to get bait, weigh your fish and
take a picture of you and your catch.
Operating hours are Thursday noon to Sunday
noon, and we look forward to seeing you this
season!

Sometimes the Best Lure
Action Is No Action

Whether you're jigging, rigging, cranking, spinning, spooning, worming or popping, there are literally infinite ways that you can impart action on
your bait. For jigging you can swim it, drag it, hop
it, drop it, twitch it and everything in between.
The same thing applies to retrieving soft plastics.
When casting or trolling crankbaits, there's no
end to what you can do with those either. Rip 'em
fast, slow-roll 'em, wobble 'em at the surface, the
list goes on. And with topwater poppers, prop baits
or "walkers," you can work them violently or with
subtle finesse.
The savvy fisherman is always tinkering with
little nuances in the retrieve, to dial in the precise
presentation that fish respond to on a given day.
Sometimes they want it fast and furious. Other
conditions will call for slow and lazy.
However, there's another presentation that I
haven't yet mentioned, and it's often the best one.
That, my friends, is to do nothing at all. Before I
get into ways you can do nothing, let's first consider the creature we're after: the fish.
Fish must eat, that's obvious. And like every
other predator on planet earth (humans included),
fish want their meals to be easy. It is a natural
instinct to expend as little effort as possible when
feeding (or attempting to feed). Survival depends
on maintaining body mass and energy levels because let's face it, when a fish isn't eating he's
basically trying not to get eaten himself!
With that said, ask yourself: would the average
fish rather chase a racing, zig-zagging minnow or
eat one that's just hanging around? Most of the

time, they'll take the easy meal. So next time you're
fishing, serve up a simple snack.
This is really easy to do when jigging or fishing
with soft plastics. In a walleye scenario with a
jig-and-minnow, pitch the jig to your chosen spot
(let's say it's 16 feet down on a rocky hump). Let
the jig reach bottom and let it just sit there. Assume a walleye has seen it drop and has rushed
in to investigate. Maybe he inhales it right away,
or maybe he's nosing it and waiting for it to make
its next move. During this period, pay very close
attention to "feeling" a bite or seeing your fishing
line twitch. If nothing happens after 10 seconds
or so, give the jig a hop and let it go motionless
again. If fish are there, and they're hungry, you
will get bit!
Do-nothing soft plastics for bass can be especially deadly. A lot of bass guys call this "deadsticking." I remember a particular day on a good
bass lake when every largemouth I caught was
on a dead-sticked Senko rigged "wacky style."
I'd make a cast, reel up the slack, and just wait.
Sometimes it took several minutes before a roaming bass came upon the bait and sucked it in, even
though it was just lying there on the bottom.
Dead-sticking is particularly effective when
catching bass and panfish on spawn beds too.
Find a bed, pitch a soft plastic into it, and eventually the fish guarding that piece of real estate will
pick up the lure to get it the heck out of there.
To dead-stick crank baits, there are two lure
styles involved: floaters and suspenders. With
floaters, simply twitch or retrieve the lure and
then stop. Let it float to the surface and sit there
for several seconds. You'll be amazed at how
many strikes you'll get when it's sitting still. It's
the same drill when you're working topwater baits
(poppers, prop baits, etc.).
For suspenders (or neutrally-buoyant)
crankbaits, retrieve the lure down to its desired

depth, stop, and let it hang there. Try this just
beyond the outside edges of thick underwater
weedlines. Gamefish will tuck into those edges
for cover, then dart out for unsuspecting baitfish
that get caught loafing around.
Even spoons and spinners, especially when
fished vertically, can be dead-sticked. And naturally, any type of live bait presentation underneath
a bobber (float) is a fairly motionless bait and an
easy target for a hungry fish.
Next time you decide to get out there and do
something about catching fish, try doing nothing
instead. It's a proven method for capitalizing on a
fish's tendency to be a lazy, opportunistic predator.
