Welcome by our representative and assistance with arrival formalities. Meet your tour educator at the airport and drive to Tel Aviv. Welcome to Israel: Stop at the Jaffa Overlook for an introduction to Tel Aviv - and to our journey in Israel. Check into the hotel. Enjoy a Middle-Eastern-style dinner at with a varied menu of traditional salads and grilled meats. Overnight: Tel Aviv DAY THREE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22, 2016 CAESAREA-MEGIDDO-HAIFA-NAZARETH Breakfast at the hotel. Check out of the hotel and depart north along the coastal plain to the ancient city of Caesarea, built by Herod the Great in honor of Augustus Caeasar and considered the traditional site of Paul's imprisonment before his trial in Rome and the home of the first gentile believer, Cornelius and of Philip the evangelist; the theatre, aqueducts and Hippodrome serve as a backdrop for the events chronicled in the Book of Acts. Visit Megiddo, one of Israel's most famous biblical sites and the traditional site of Armageddon, and walk through the archaeological park and biblical period waterways. Lunch on own en route. Visit the Mukhraka (Horn of the Carmel), the monastery of the “place of burning” where according to Jewish, Christian, Druze and Muslim belief, the dramatic battle between Elijah and the prophets of Baal took place. The panoramic view in all directions is spectacular. Visit Nazareth and walk through the colorful marketplace to the Church of the Annunciation. Drive to the Upper Galilee and check into the kibbutz hotel. Dinner at the kibbutz hotel. Overnight: Kibbutz Hotel, Upper Galilee DAY FOUR THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 2016 SPIRITUALITY IN THE NORTH Breakfast at the hotel. Short hike along the Banias River at the base of the Golan Heights, also known as Caesarea Philippi, the site where Jesus revealed Peter's leadership role among the disciples. Explore Israel's security situation on the Golan Heights. Overlooking the Hula Valley from former Syrian fortifications, discuss the challenges Israel faced leading up to the Six-Day War. Cross the Golan plateau to the border with Syria, and a view of the abandoned city of Kuneitra and the nearby United Nations outpost, for an insight into the experiences in the Yom Kippur 1973 war. Visit a Druze village for a window into the unique world of the Israeli Druze community, with lunch on own. Stop at Kursi, traditional site of the spot where Jesus drove the swine into the sea. Explore Tsfat, a center of Jewish mysticism for hundreds of years and a contemporary artists' colony, including: Guided visits to the Ari, Caro or Abuhav Synagogues with their great stories and mystical messages A stroll through the quaint Artists' Colony and shop in the galleries and crafts shops Return to the hotel. Guided visit to some Christian Holy Sites around the Sea of Galilee, including: A visit to the Mount of Beatitudes, traditional site of Jesus' ‘Sermon on the Mount', overlooking the Sea of Galilee. A visit to Capernaum, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, the site of Jesus' teachings and the remains of a 2nd century synagogue. A visit to Tabgha, traditional site of the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes, and the site of a modern church built on the remains of a Fourth Century church. Drive to Yardenit, the baptismal site on the Jordan River. Lunch on own en route. Continue south along the Jordan Rift Valley and ascend to Jerusalem through the Judean Desert. Welcome to Jerusalem: Enter the vibrant and colourful 3,000 year old city of Jerusalem and experience the convergence of the old and the new. Check into the hotel. Pre-Kabbalat Shabbat ceremony near the Southern Wall, together with our neighbors from Tampa. Time for personal reflection by the Kotel (Western Wall). Free Shabbat in Jerusalem for an opportunity to explore (on own): Walk along the Ramparts of the Old City (voucher provided). The Tower of David Museum of the History of Jerusalem, for a walk through the city's history - with observation points, an animated film and visual and audio-visual aids - from the time of Abraham to the end of the British Mandate over Palestine. Wander in the Arab bazaar Israeli Society @ 2016: Dialogue with scholar Paul Liptz of Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew Union College. Ben Kodesh Lechol: Havdallah at Independence Park. Free time in the Mamilla pedestrian arcade, a very contemporary shopping area with a whiff of the past, located outside the Jaffa Gate of the Old City; dinner on own. Optional: The Night Spectacular at the Tower of David Museum: The walls of the Citadel serve as a stage for a night-time show - a celebration of sight and sound - that depicts the story of Jerusalem. Overnight: Jerusalem DAY SEVEN SUNDAY, JUNE 26, 2016 JERUSALEM-OLD CITY Breakfast at the hotel. Optional church services. Drive to the beautiful Mt. of Olives to behold the breath- taking panorama of the Holy City. Descend to Gethsemane with its ancient olive grove, where tradition holds that Jesus prayed prior to his arrest and crucifixion. Visit the Upper Room on Mt. Zion where Jesus spent his last hours with his disciples before his arrest and crucifixion; it was also here that the Holy Spirit came upon the 120 on the Day of Pentecost. Directly under the Upper Room, is the traditional site of the Tomb of King David. Lunch on own en route. Guided visit through the Old City of Jerusalem, including sites holy to Jews, Moslems and Christians: the Western Wall, the Temple Mount and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight: Jerusalem DAY EIGHT MONDAY, JUNE 27, 2016 DEAD SEA-MASADA Early breakfast at the hotel. Arrive at Masada and ascend this wilderness mountain fortress in a cable car; walk through the remains of the palace, water cisterns and fortifications built by King Herod, and hear about the Zealots who lived here until the bitter end. Experience the weightlessness of the Dead Sea as you float in its waters. Lunch on own. Stop at Qumran and explore the area where the Dead Sea Sect established a community, see the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Ascend to the Inn of the Good Samaritan Visit Genesis Land, a Biblical-style encampment in the Judean Desert; delve into the Bible, take a camel ride, experience Biblical hospitality and enjoy a celebration ‘hafla' feast. Visit the city of Bethlehem, site of the birth of Jesus and the Church of the Nativity. Return to Jerusalem. Dinner at the hotel. Knesset, Israel's Parliament, the Supreme Court building, the Prime Minister's Office, Israel National bank & the Israeli national Library. Experience the sights, smells, and tastes of Jerusalem while walking through the Machaneh Yehuda open-air market, with lunch on own. Visit the renewed and wonderfully creative Israel Museum, with its wide-ranging and eclectic collection, from Archaeology and the Dead Sea Scrolls, to Jewish Life and Art, European art, contemporary Israeli art and the open-air model of Jerusalem in the Second Temple period. End your journey with a visit to Garden Tomb, traditional Protestant site of Calvary. Overnight: Jerusalem Rest of the afternoon at leisure to relax, pack and get in some last-minute shopping.
