Information on Solution selected – Spring 2016
120-kV
Langlois–Vaudreuil-Soulanges
Line and Supply for Ericsson
INFORMATION ON SOLUTION SELECTED • Spring 2016
The population of the regional county
municipality (MRC) of VaudreuilSoulanges has grown significantly
in the last decade. Between 2001
and 2014, the number of residents
in the MRC increased by 43%.
Combined with industrial and
commercial development, this
population growth has led to a
significant increase in the region’s
electricity consumption and
has overloaded the power system.
Hydro-Québec TransÉnergie needs
to build a new 120-kilovolt (kV)
transmission line on the territory
of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC.
From this new line, Hydro-Québec
TransÉnergie will also build a line
segment to supply Ericsson, which
recently moved into VaudreuilDorion’s industrial area.
Commissioning of the planned
equipment is scheduled for 2017.
A MAJOR PROJECT
FOR THE REGION
• Meets the growing demand
for electricity
• Represents an investment
of $45 million
RESULTS OF THE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS
In 2015, Hydro-Québec presented the line routes and consulted community
representatives, affected landowners and the general population. This consultation
allowed Hydro-Québec to learn their various concerns and gather their comments.
Hydro-Québec was able to improve its project and now proposes a slightly
modified route that better meets community expectations.
SELECTED LINE ROUTE
Segment 1
36 m
The 120-kV double-circuit transmission
line will consist of six conductors and
be supported by steel towers. The line
will be approximately 20 km long and will
connect Langlois and Vaudreuil-Soulanges
substations. Work is also planned inside
Dorion, Langlois, Vaudreuil-Soulanges
and Rigaud substations to integrate
the new line to the power system.
No work is required from Langlois
substation to Les Cèdres substation.
The new line will be divided into
two segments.
Existing right-of-way
New right-of-way: 21.5 m
Total right-of-way width: 52 m
From Les Cèdres substation to
Dorion substation (segment 1)
2
Segment 2
Hydro-Québec favored using existing
rights-of-way to avoid the impacts
associated with opening a new line
corridor. For this segment, to be about
8.5 km long, the selected solution is to
dismantle the existing line supported
by wooden H-frames, and rebuild it
on double-circuit steel towers in the
same 30 m right-of-way. This option
allows Hydro-Québec to use existing
servitude rights.
From Dorion substation to
Vaudreuil-Soulanges substation
(segment 2)
This new 7-km-long segment will
run along the existing line between
Les Cèdres and Dorion substations.
This route has the advantage of
grouping together Hydro-Québec’s
lines in a single corridor.

ERICSSON SUPPLY
Hydro-Québec will also build a 3.5-km-long
line segment to the Ericsson site at 3500A,
Rue F.-X.-Tessier in Vaudreuil-Dorion, from
the new Langlois–Vaudreuil-Soulanges line.
This segment will begin near Montée
Labossière and will be composed of
a 3-km-long overhead line. It will cross
Highway 40 before reaching an overheadunderground junction substation located
near the Joseph-Carrier industrial park,
just east of Montée Cadieux. From this
point, it will run underground to the
Ericsson connection point since there
isn’t enough room in the industrial park
for an overhead line.
STAGES UNDERWAY AND TO COME
Since December 2015, Hydro-Québec has held meetings with affected landowners
and is carrying out field studies to determine the best location for each tower.
During 2016, Hydro-Québec will complete engineering work and will obtain the
necessary government approvals to carry out the project.
Commissioning of the new line is planned for 2017.
