Van Go! takes Kahu ‘Ohana around the Island
by Carol Yotsuda
I have a brother named Kai
He’s super but he can’t fly
He runs really fast
And he has a blast
He’s honest and does not lie.
Kahu ‘Ohana - “Caring for our family of people” - is a way to connect
the arts, health, wellness, mentors and family. It gives children and
youth the opportunity to focus on the importance of positive role
models in their lives and in the shaping of responsible and caring new
leaders for the future.
E
My little sister Hana is very brave
Around her happiness comes in great waves
She likes to do things alone
And gives our dog a bone
I said to give and then she gave.
Kahu ‘Ohana focuses children and youth on the
importance of acknowledging and honoring their
mentors and the special people who impact their
lives positively. Van Go! recruits energetic artists
and writers to work with children and youth in
community settings where they are able to freely
express their personal ideas on who is special in
their lives.
My nice dad takes me to the pool
He is smart and never a fool
He buys me fun games
And calls me sweet names
I am happy my dad is so cool.
My grandmother loves to cook food
She made a stew that had to be chewed
Oh! so hard, just like a rock
On the ground it looked like chalk
She flicked her hand and said “Oh, how rude!”
There once was a brown tabby cat
Who comes to sit on my lap
She goes “Meow, meow”
When she eats Kitten Chow
And she sits very still on my lap.
Even before the completion of the 2007 Kahu
‘Aina art project (May 2007 issue of ARTS),
a collaboration between the Honu Group,
Princeville Shopping Center, Garden Island Arts
Council, Kaua`i Conservation, and the National
Tropical Botanical Garden, Van Go! -- the cutting
edge community arts program of the GIAC -- is
already on the road with the sequel arts program
called Kahu ‘Ohana.
The 2008 program kicked off at the Eastside
Family Summit held at Kapa`a High School
campus on Saturday, February 2 where thousands
of community folks enjoyed a family-day program
featuring positive programs and activities. Eight
artists and writers volunteered and presented
kids and parents with the opportunity to draw,
paint and create puppets representing the special
person they wrote about. The attendance was
excellent and the Van Go! team was bombarded
with an avalanche of youthful participants. Van Go! took a second team of eight artists to the
Orchid and Arts Festival in Hanapepe on April
5 and worked with the children on limericks and
watercolors of their special ‘ohana person. Several
of the limericks and charming watercolors were
shared with the folks assembled under the tent for
the ongoing all-day entertainment. Van Go! also participated in the Hui ‘O Laka
Banana Poka Festival at Kanaloahululhulu
Meadow at Koke’e State Park on Sunday, May
25. Children had a chance to paint and write
about their favorite person.
On June 21, Van Go! provided art and writing
activities for the children at the Hawai`i Healing
Gardens Festival presented by Hawai`i Health
Guide on the grounds of Malama Kaua`i in
Kilauea.

Choices
In putting this issue together, this question came
up about human behavior - Why do people need
to be encouraged to Reduce, Reuse and Re-cycle?
Especially when it seems so obvious that it is our
responsibility to make choices that will preserve
our unique tropical islands for future generations.
Yet recycling remains low on the priority for many
individuals. Okay, why?
I began researching the process of decision-making
and what could be possibly be getting in the way. I
found studies that showed a cluttered mind hinders
the executive function of the brain where decisions
are made. An article in Scientific America, Tough
Choices: How Decisions Tire Our Brains, reports:
“Recently, a growing body of research has focused
on a particular mental limitation, which has to
do with our ability to use a mental trait known as
executive function.” We know that the brain is like
all the muscles in our body which, when it is overworked, becomes fatigued and does not function
optimally. The article goes on to say, “Unrelated
activities that tax the executive function have
important lingering effects, and may disrupt your
ability to make an important decision.”
Can it be that having too much stimulation, too
many choices and decisions made on a daily basis
are getting in the way of seeing what is really
important for our very survival? Science Daily (Apr.
15, 2008) reports: “Whether one is making a good
or bad choice, the process of having too much
to choose from makes us more fatigued and less
productive. People faced with numerous choices
find it difficult to stay focused enough to complete
projects, handle daily tasks or even take their
medicine.” Imagine what multi-tasking must be
doing to our brains; some say it lowers the IQ.
It is clear that uncluttered mind not only makes
better decisions, but necessary life preserving ones
as well. Also, it is obvious we need to simplify our
lives in order to function optimally. With schedules
becoming increasingly overloaded, many of my
friends actually look forward to airplane rides,
when they travel, because they are unreachable and
forced to be in a quiet situation for an extended
period of time. Vacations can do the same thing by
taking us to a place of relaxation and quiet where
you can hear your mind think. Unfortunately, too
many people travel with cell phones and computers,
taking their stresses with them.
Kaua’i is arguably one of the most beautiful places
on the planet. If everyone, for just 60 seconds,
took a moment and shut off all the outside chatter,
then breathed in deeply followed by long slow
exhales, perhaps we would all realize in that quiet
minute, the wisdom in choosing to preserve this
fragile paradise. Visualize, for just one dark instant,
mountains of cans, bottles, paper, newspapers,
plastic bags, etc. scattered throughout the islands.
Unless we re-cycle, that is what we would produce!
And now picture all that stuff made into park
benches, sidewalks, new bottles, dishes and the list
goes on. Ahh, that’s better.
If you were to look at the our bodies through the
eyes of Dr. Deepak Chopra, you would know that
we are made up of 98% recycled material – recycled
earth, water and air. “Every 5 days, your stomach
lining renews. Every 7 days, your liver lining
renews. Every 3 months, your skeleton changes.
Our feelings are recycled emotions. Our personality
is formed by recycled relationships.”
In other words, you are what you eat, what you breathe
and where you make your home. We are undoubtedly
deeply connected with our environment.
Take the time to slow down and allow your mind to
think clearly. Focus on what is important, prioritize
and begin making wise choices and good decisions
for yourself, your families, your neighbors and the
generations to come.
Enjoy,

Spirit
When Nathan Kalama was
growing up, the Hawaiian
culture was rarely celebrated as
a heritage of its own, and more
often abused and exploited. It
has taken a life-long dedication
to change that perspective and
honor the values by practicing
the culture with respect,
reverence and most of all, joy.
Founder of the Kaua`i Mokihana Festival by initiating the Kaua`i
Composers Contest and Concert in 1984, Kalama has worked
to perpetuate and promote the Hawaiian culture ever since.
“Composers are inspired to communicate wonderful messages
about the island and their inner feelings,” said the festival director.
“Many good songs are created, but unless they are shared with
others they may be lost to obscurity. This contest, where new songs
are performed before an appreciative audience, is the perfect venue
Nathan

“I had been brought up in a strict, but loving, family where only
hymns and religious songs could be performed,” recalled Kalama,
“so I was shocked when I was exposed to contemporary Hawaiian

promotes and encourages the island’s composers and musicians
to perform their new songs. Participants in this contest share their
personal musical creations with the Island’s people and visitors,
many walking away with trophies, cash prizes and most importantly,
recognition for their talent.
“I began composing songs as a senior in high school,” shares
Kalama. “and few venues existed in 1966 to promote new Hawaiian
composers. One instructor, Nona Beamer, known as Aunty Nona
by all her students, was the first person who introduced me to
contemporary Hawaiian culture and influenced me to appreciate of
my own identity as a young Hawaiian man.”
Entering the music industry after graduating from Kamehameha
Schools, Kalama looked around and saw how the exploitation of
the culture was popularized by the tourism industry. Hired to
perform in a show called the Royal Tahitian, Kalama celebrated

his 20th birthday in Canada. Enticed to tour because the group
would be performing in Disneyland, Kalama said, “but when we
arrived in Anaheim, there were Mexican girls already hired to
dance their version of the Hawaiian hula. This was not an authentic
demonstration of the Hawaiian culture.” A tour around north
America, billed as a Polynesian show that included a hypnotism
act, was the only option offered. “Though I am sure I am not the
first young person whose talent was exploited, the experience was
hardly a cultural sharing.”

music. I quickly realized that it is only when the language is in
continual use does it thrive. A culture that is not allowed to change
with new practice will stagnate. That is why the events of the Kaua`i
Mokihana Festival evolve each year.”
Among practitioners of the Hawaiian culture, the highest complement
one can pay a person is to compose a song for them, which is called
a mele inoa. At the recent celebration of Nathan Kalama’s sixtieth
birthday, musician Maka Herrod performed a new song Wili Ia Kou
Lei Aloha inspired by his mentor. Herrod said, “The inspiration for
this song I composed in Hawaiian, which translates to ‘Find your
Lei of Love’, came about from thinking of the way Uncle embraces
all of us, his family and friends, in his loving way.”
Hui (chorus)
Find your lei of love

Majestically I place you high above

The word “Mamo”, besides referring to the yellow feathers of the
Hawaiian honeycreeper used in choicest featherwork, also means
Spirit
revered, such as royal alii adornment. “The word also refers to
kupuna,” said Herrod who assists him with event coordination, “as
I consider Nathan my granduncle and have learned so much from
him.”
Nathan Liberato Kahikolu Kahapea Kalama is able to recite his
genealogy, and has produced several CD’s of his own music
compositions. As kumu hula of Halau Kalamaolaimaluhialani, he
teaches a group of kupuna seniors, who perform and compete
in hula competitions. “I take the evolution of Hawaiian culture
personally,” He said, “and am continually learning more about the
culture. I am currently taking a formal course in ‘olelo, the Hawaiian
language.”
As founder Mālie Foundation, the nonprofit organization that
coordinates contemporary Hawaiian cultural events on Kaua`i,
Nathan Kalama has set the mission to perpetuate the Hawaiian
culture. This year’s Kaua´i Mokihana Festival, now in its 24th year,
will be held September 21 through 27. The 2008 theme is “Year of
our Kupuna” and the week-long festival feature three days of hula
competition, music concerts, and other cultural workshops and

Preserving our
Kaua´i
It doesn’t take a natural disaster to put
us in a situation of needing to provide for
ourselves. The rising cost of energy and
food coupled with the decline of our major
revenue generating industries could leave
the residents of Kaua`i scrambling to make
ends meet. For many, global economic
trends are already affecting major changes
in lifestyle. An increasing number of people
in our community are finding it harder and
harder to get their basic needs met. What can
we do today to strengthen our resilience as a
community?
“Sustainability” is about insuring that the
needs of everybody in our community are

by Andrea Brower for Malama Kaua`i
As the fortunate inhabitants of beautiful
Kaua`i, the Garden Isle, we enjoy so
much: clean air, warm oceans, abundant
greenery, fresh rain fed water, and some of
the most spectacular scenery in the world.
Consequently we must ask ourselves, “What
is my responsibility as a steward of this
wonderful place and as a member of this
diverse community?” We have experienced
our vulnerability in the past following
hurricanes and other disasters. We have
always been fortunate to receive immediate
overseas help with water, food and shelter.
But what if help had not arrived or was
simply unavailable? Are we prepared to
provide for ourselves in the absence of
outside assistance?
met equitably without compromising the
health of our resources and environment,
and with a global perspective of the
impact of our actions. As an isolated island
heavily dependent on overseas resources,
sustainability is largely about self-sufficiency.
Few of us give a second thought to how
dependent we are on each ship that brings
fuel and food to our shores. The incredible
irony is that the original inhabitants of
Kaua`i sustained, by some counts, as many
as four times the current population, yet
were completely self-reliant and maintained
a harmonious balance with the `aina (land).
Traditional Hawaiian ways of interacting
with and caring for their environment reflect
a sustainable resource management ethic
based in aloha `aina (love and connection
to the land), a value that recognizes that the
health of the land and people are inextricably
related. The Hawaiian deep respect for the
land, water, air, plant and animal life is a
cultural value that is often lacking in capitalist
societies that are foremost concerned with
the economic bottom line. A positive vision
for the future would meld aloha `aina and
traditional Hawaiian models of resource
management with cutting edge alternative
energy and transportation technologies.
Sustainability is not a new idea, but global
capitalism has moved us further and further
away from its principles. A returned focus on
sustainability seeks to ensure that the social,
environmental, economic and cultural
systems that make up our community are
providing a healthy and meaningful life
for Kauai’s people, as well as maintaining a
society-environment balance.
In evaluating the well-being of our
community, it is worthwhile to start with
some basic questions:
• Are there meaningful jobs that pay living
wages?
• Can residents find homes they can
afford?
• Does money spent here stay here and
build the local economy?
• Is the ocean in which we swim, surf,
and fish clean? How about the water we
drink?
• Do residents have access to affordable,
fresh, healthy foods?
• Is culture respected and perpetuated?
In answering these questions it becomes
apparent that, despite tremendous economic
wealth, our current systems are highly
unsustainable and inequitable. Consider the
following:
• None of Kaua`i’s 10 largest occupations pay a living wage and 36% of households
on Kaua`i have incomes that qualify them
Mind
as “economically needy.” (Kaua`i
Economic Development Plan, September
2004)
• The median price of a single family
home in 2006 was $678,000, but
according to government calculations,
the average family of four can only
afford to purchase a home for $183,100.
This trend has only worsened recently.
• Kaua`i imports 85-90% of its food and
both the number of farmers and the
amount of land used for agriculture are
declining. (Hawaii Sustainability Analysis
and Recommendations, Rocky Mountain
Institute, May 2008)
food scraps. (Kekaha Landfill Waste
Composition Study)
• Forty-one percent of residents believe
the ‘Aloha Spirit’ is declining. Many
lament that the unique and treasured
Kaua`i lifestyle is being lost to America’s
mass culture. (Measuring What Matters
for Kaua`i – Community Indicators
Report 2006, Kaua`i Planning and
Action Alliance)
Tourism has brought immense economic
growth to Hawai`i in the past few decades.
Yet, the realization that growth and increased
consumption does not necessarily increase
overall societal well-being has led many to
question conventional models of economics,
which don’t consider the interconnectedness
the economy. We all play an important role
in this process, be it through our consumer
choices, our involvement with government,
or our grassroots actions to bring about
change.
Malama Kaua`i is spearheading projects in
the areas of food and energy self-sufficiency,
economic security, community-centered
smart-growth, preservation and protection
of
the
environment,
strengthening
community engagement, and perpetuation
of native Hawaiian and other island cultures.

At the invitation of hula kumu Puna Dawson,
I recently joined a small cultural exchange
tour group to Hokkaido, Japan, hosted by
Shin Buddhist ministers, as well as our own
Rev. Noriaki Fujimori, of Waimea Higashi
Hongwanji. Like Taoism, Buddhism is
about balance. The following is the first of
two articles on lessons learned.
The Japanese live on an island, as do we.
The Japanese don’t have oil; nor do we.
But the Japanese live and breathe recycling
and lead the world towards sustainability.
Meanwhile, Kauaians creep out of the cave of
our waning plantation mentality, seemingly
blinded by the dawn of our environmental
renaissance.
To paraphrase Pogo, the Japanese and
we have met the enemy and he is us. The
Japanese are winning and are leading by
example.
RECYCLING:
In Japan, the Coca-Cola Bottling Company
builds and runs recycling plants. All their
products are designed to be recycled.
Returnable bottles are returned. Plastic
bottles are recycled into fabric, including
the uniforms for the plant workers. Glass
is recycled into architectural materials,
etc. Aluminum is recycled into cans. Most
of Japan’s 120,000 tons of waste is used
coffee and tea leaves, which Coca-Cola has
recycled into fertilizer and energy since
2004. Paper is recycled into toilet paper and
tin cans are made into auto parts. This is
green corporate responsibility!
Coca-Cola introduced its independent
environmental
management
system,
called eKOsystem in 2002 “to save the
environment,” which by 2005 coordinated
joint implementation throughout Japan. All
Coca-Cola companies around the world are
engaging eKOsystem, states the company
brochure. (Shouldn’t our people call their
people?)
• Japan recycles 58 items, not just the things
that Kaua`i does. Separate bins are located
conveniently in all public places. Recycling
is deeply ingrained in the entire Japanese
culture.

• The former Hokkaido sanitary landfill
was retired into a Mt. Trashmore. Once the
Sapporo landfill had drawn off methane
and settled, the remains were sculpted into
a very popular park, designed by an awardwinning Japanese landscape architect,
Isamu Noguchi.
Noguchi’s Moerenuma Park is comprised
of two hills for climbing, water features
and fountains for keiki wading, a pond
for fishing and naturalistic landscaping
that embraces the park with meadows and
gardens, sculptures, a large glass pyramid
to view from within, 15 tennis courts, a
baseball field, a track and sinuous bike
paths. Noguchi has taught us how to turn
a sow’s ear into a silk purse! HA! I love this
cultural exchange!
ENERGY:
To generate electricity, Japan sources
coal, hydro-electric, nuclear power and a
variety of large wind turbines. One family
reported that their monthly electric bill is
approximately $500, although the woman
did not know the cost per kwhr.
Spirit
The Japan Times Online reported on
6.18.08: “The government is set to consider
a so-called environment tax on oil, coal and
other greenhouse gas-producing fuels as part of
an overall tax reform plan later this year…
‘The overall tax system will be re-examined,
including the handling of an environment tax
in light of the promotion of the low-carbon
society,’ the draft version says.
not foresee is that we were contracting to
supply a minimum amount of solid waste
on a regular basis. That meant that we were
forced to consume, consume, consume, in
order to feed the incinerator. We could not
reduce our consumption, nor increase our
recycling from cradle to cradle. It became
an addiction. Only Enron’s collapse rescued
us from this grave misjudgment.
G-8 SUMMIT:
This is the first time that an environment
tax has been included in the policy paper as
part of Japan’s effort to lower greenhouse gas
emissions.
The draft reflects the government’s
determination to take a leadership role in
mapping out a series of steps to achieve a lowcarbon society ahead of the Group of Eight
summit from July 7 to 9 in Hokkaido, where
climate change will be high on the agenda.
Fukuda announced last week a plan to
introduce carbon trading on a trial basis
later this year with an eye to cutting Japan’s
emissions by 60 percent to 80 percent by 2050.
Other proposals by Fukuda include raising the
proportion of alternative power sources such as
solar, nuclear and wind.
ONE ENERGY ERROR:
Regarding the issue of municipal waste
conversion to electricity vs. recycling,
my hometown in Connecticut was one of
eight municipalities desperate to find an
alternative to trucking waste to landfills in
western Pennsylvania and Ohio at enormous
expense. It was recycling more products
than Kaua`i and still faced a catastrophe.
When Enron offered to contract to generate
electricity from the solid waste of our region,
we were eager to take the bait. What we did
The G-8 Summit on the Environment was
hosted by Hokkaido from July 7-9, 2008.
The unanimous goal was to address how
to adapt to and mitigate climate change.
Emission limits at the G8 were not set. You
can guess who put a stop that that. (Again
- “We have met the enemy and he is us.”
Pogo)
Thought-provoking poster-displays at
the crossroads of Sapporo Station engage
pedestrians to enlighten their global
warming acumen. A stunning notice on
the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit website
set the stage for attitude. “The volume of the
image files is controlled to reduce electricity
consumption.” (I got up and turned off my
overhead light.)
Seventeen countries participated in the
summit, including Japan, Canada, Russia,
India, United States, the European Union,
and individually France, Germany, Italy,
Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Conspicuously absent was the largest
country with the fastest growing GNP in
the world.
Yasuo Fukuda, the prime minister of Japan
and chair of the G8 Summit, stated: “Global
warming is a huge challenge, and humanity has
no time to lose. The international community
must urgently strengthen efforts to resolve this
issue. In this endeavor, Japan has proposed
the Cool Earth Promotion Programme. As
chair of the G8 Summit, I will work towards
establishing a framework with fair and
equitable emissions targets in which all major
emitters participate.”
After the G8 Summit AP reported the US
administration’s response: US, allies want
global pollution slashed - by 2050” by Tom
Raum and Joseph Coleman – Toyako, Japan
(AP)—“Leaders of some of the world’s richest
nations praised the agreement, which endorsed
President Bush’s insistence that fast-developing
countries like China and India join in the effort.
But one environmental critic suggested that by
2050 those leaders would be forgotten and ‘the
world will be cooked.’
…The United States has never ratified the
Kyoto treaty, with Bush complaining that it
puts too much of a burden on the U.S. and
other developed countries to reduce emissions
while developing giants such as China and
India are given a freer rein to pollute even as
they vigorously compete with America around
the world.”

Japan lives and breathes recycling. Its
attitude to the planet is literally reverent.
So, `ohana, the ball is in our court and it
is match point. I want you to go to your
window and yell, “I am not going to take
this ANYMORE!”

The American Heart Associating (AHA)
recommends eating fish, particularly fatty fish,
twice a week. Incorporating fish into a regular

Omega-3s are also linked to increasing brain
development and preventing cancer, arthritis
and even depression.
extinct, Kona Blue has developed a sustainable,
environmentally friendly alternative to meeting
increasing consumer demand for fresh fish.
By combining cutting-edge marine hatchery
science with a carefully selected offshore
location, the company stocks its offshore
cages with its trademark Kona Kampachi
without depleting wild fish stocks of this native
Hawaiian yellowtail or harming the ocean
environment.
But there have been issues raised recently that
point to dangers due to the eating of fish. The
first concerns our own health and the second
concerns our environment. One company, Kona
Blue Water Farms, has found a brilliant solution
to both problems. Kona Blue sustainably raises
Kona Kampachi®,a top quality sashimi-grade
fish with no additives, genetic engineering or
hormones.
Kona Blue was founded by two Hawai`i-based
marine biologists who understand the delicate
balance of ocean ecosystems. Since starting
the company in 2001, they have perfected
the hatchery science behind rearing Kona
Kampachi and other species. This hatchery
technology separates Kona Blue from the many
aqua ranchers who catch wild fish and grow
them in cages. Over time, Kona Blue believes
that hatchery technology will be central to
meeting the critical global demand for fish
because it fundamentally takes pressure off
wild stocks.
HEALTH
At a time when mercury content in fish is a
serious public concern, it is possible to enjoy
the health benefits of a delicious fish that is free
of detectable mercury or contaminants. Kona
Kampachi, a popular Hawaiian yellowtail, is
sustainably grown in the open ocean off the
coast of Hawai`i.
According to laboratory tests conducted
regularly by Surefish, an independent
international seafood quality testing firm, Kona
Kampachi does not contain mercury to the .02
mg/kg detection limit, which is 50 times lower
than the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s
allowable limit of 1 mg/kg. This means that
according to guidelines set by the F.D.A. and
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Kona
Kampachi is safe for unrestricted consumption,
even by children and pregnant women.
“We continually submit each batch of our
fish for testing and analysis before harvesting
them, and the tests have consistently come
back ‘undetectable’ for mercury,” said Kona
Blue CEO Mike Wink. “And with a high
concentration of Omega-3s, this confirms Kona
Kampachi as one of the purest, healthiest fish
on the market.”
The company nurtures its fish from hatch to
harvest, and each batch of fish is submitted
for testing and analysis before harvest. Kona
Kampachi originates from select brood stock,
is fed high-quality sustainable feed, and is
grown naturally in deep-water cages in the
open ocean. These controls, combined with the
rapid growth cycle of Kona Kampachi, ensure
that mercury or other contaminants do not
accumulate in this fish the way it does in most
wild-caught fish.
“There’s a myth that wild-caught fish are
somehow healthier than cultured fish,” said
Wink. “But our fish debunk that notion. They
are significantly healthier and purer than most
wild-caught fish. With wild fish, you don’t
always know where that fish has traveled or
what it has eaten. With our fish, you know it
has been raised on sustainable feed in some of
the cleanest water on Earth.”

Though over half the world’s fisheries are
depleted from over-fishing and many formerly
abundant species are all but commercially
The Kona Blue operation borrows from
the ancient Hawaiian tradition of natural
aquaculture systems in the form of fishponds.
The company’s system raises Kona Kampachi
in its natural habitat in large submerged cages
in the open ocean. No genetic engineering,
hormones or preventative antibiotics are used
in the process.
Furthermore, the location —in deep water
approximately half a mile off the west coast of
the Big Island of Hawai`i—ensures that there
is no impact on delicate coral reefs or coastal
ecosystems. The seabed here is sandy, and
strong currents move through the offshore site.
Prior to commencing operations, Kona Blue
went through an exhaustive three-year
permitting process to satisfy all relevant
federal and state regulatory agencies.
Throughout this process, the company was
also consulting with Native Hawaiian leaders,
local fishermen, environmentalists and other
community groups. The company’s operations
are monitored on an ongoing basis by the State
Division of Aquatic Resources, the National
Pollutant Discharge Elimination System and
the National Humpback Whale Sanctuary.
This oversight, combined with Kona Blue’s
own stringent internal monitoring, ensures
the operation does not harm the surrounding
marine ecosystem or degrade ocean water
quality. In the three years that Kona Blue has
been growing fish in the open ocean on this
site, there has been no significant impact on
the surrounding ecosystem.
Kona Kampachi has recently been ranked as
a “Good Alternative” by the Seafood Watch
program, which is the first time a marine
net pen aquacultured fish has been ranked
anything other than “Red: Avoid.” Kona Blue,
the first sustainable operation in the United
States to grow fish in the open ocean from an
integrated hatchery, is committed to building
an environmentally sustainable future through
marine fish hatchery technology, sustainable
feeds and open ocean aquaculture.

Defining Success on Your Terms
by Frieda Freitas,The Growth Coach
•What is really, really important
to me in all areas of my life?
•How can I move in the direction
that supports what is important
to me?
•How can I design systems and
environments to sustain what is
important to me?
•Who can be a part of my
personal life and business design
team?
How do you define success? We’ve
heard the standard responses:
house, cars, money in the bank,
and toys of our choosing - in other
words, material and financial gains.
By some standards today, that could
be considered “old school.”
Today, a softer, gentler definition of
success is emerging. In today’s brave
new world, individuals are daring
to create their own definition of
success… one that reflects who they
are in the world. How do you do it?
How do you define success?
The Balancing Act
Most of us have a work life and
a personal life. Blending the two
together to come out with a reflection
of who we are is quite a dance. And,
to have that balance is often quite
the challenge. One conjures up
the ideal of everything in perfect
Writing your answers on paper
will give you a blueprint to sketch
your life plan.
What’s more,
there is something powerful about
committing your innermost desires
to paper… your inner truths come
out and it frees your mind.
2. Simplify, simplify, simplify.
Think of this as “space freedom.”
The more clutter you remove from
your life, the more space you create,
the bigger the space for your success
design. Clutter can mean anything
from possessions you no longer
need or want, to relationships that
are not good for you, to ideas and
beliefs that no longer serve who you
are.
3. Systems to suit you. We all
design systems to make our lives
work better.
There are many
you offer. People will be attracted to
such a magnetic pull. If you decide
that you are the CEO of your career
and your life, the approach to what
you do is much different. The key is
to work “on” your business, not just
“in” your business as a technician.
This sets you up to be a leader where
you can serve and make a difference.
In order to lead, you first have to
lead yourself.
Focus and Accountability.
5.
Once you have clarity around what
you want for yourself, you will open
the space to focus on matching your
actions to strengthen your life plan.
When you energize yourself around
what you really want, rather than
what you don’t want, you allow your
true talents to emerge.
Being accountable can be challenging
for all of us. This is where a support
system comes into play. Simply
stated, you need support that:
•

Offers multiple perspectives.
Helps you stay focused on the
big picture.
Assists you to work through
issues.
Encourages you and is your

She finally said to me, “Perhaps you
should change your definition of
happiness.” In The Secret of Letting
Go, Guy Finley defines happiness as
“wanting what life wants.” Goethe
says it well: “Why go further and
further, look - happiness is right
here.” You can change situations
to increase your happiness … just
know that how you view your level
of happiness is often a matter of
perspective.
7. Changes and Opportunities.
There are the changes that you create
and the changes that simply happen.
Some things you can control, others
are totally out of your control.
Whether the changes are self-created
or acts of nature, when you begin
to view changes as opportunities,
you release yourself to use them as
turning points for further defining
your life path. See all changes as
opportunities to grow, to change and
to evolve. Let setbacks go. Bounce
back. Keep moving forward.

7 Ways to Write your own
Definition of Success
1. Clarity.
Clarifying what is
important to you on your own
personal success path is one of the
most vital components of having
your life reflect you. Spending some
quiet time, even fifteen minutes a
day, can assist you to gain clarity.
You need to take the time to relax,
ask yourself key questions about
your life and map out critical changes
you want to make. Ask yourself:
resources available on how to design
and implement the best systems at
work, in your home organization
and in all facets of your life. What
if you custom-created the styles that
work exactly best for you? Come
at it with the idea of a personalized
life system. Think about developing
environments that pull you forward
instead of having to push yourself.
4. Meaningful Work. (Or at least
some people call it work.) I’ve heard
it said that if you find work you love,
you will never work a day in your
life. What if you designed your
work to reflect who you are? Bring
your heart and passion to the benefits
is often a good choice to
provide accountability for what you
really want for yourself.
6. Fun and Happiness. We all
have different definitions of what
fun is. Key in on what invigorates
you and make that a part of your
life routine. If you are not certain,
make it a goal to do something new
each week or each month. Whether
it’s yoga, surfing, golf, game night
or going to movies, keep what you
enjoy in your life… it demonstrates
your success.
Happiness is subjective. At one point
in my life I would often lament to a
mentor, “I just want to be happy.”
M a r v a C o llin s
of a strategic mindset is key for your
success journey. I recently heard a
speaker say, “Go where you want to
go, accept what you get and become
who you want to be.” From this
moment forward, define success
on your terms, in your style and
to support your goals. That is a
positive way to bring your unique
contributions to the world.

A Spiritual Path
By Dr. Ruey Ryburn
A friend recently said that his life had
gotten ‘humdrum’ until an awareness of
spirituality opened for him. It seems that
much of America is reaching this same
conclusion. The treadmill of work, email,
television, children’s sports and/or social obligations eventually
becomes meaningless for those ready to awaken to their soul and
spiritual life.
Opening to spirit may take many forms. Some have an inner vision, a
past life deja vu, a near death experience, or an out-of-body awareness.
Others may be blessed by finding a spiritual teacher. This is often
quite different than weekly church attendance if it happens without an
inner awareness or connection to the God within. When an individual
truly desires to find new meaning in his or her life, deeply requesting
so in prayer institutes a process by which the divine may enter.
Personally, I knelt and asked God to open a path for me. I knew that
I was on earth to accomplish a task, but that I was not doing so in my
present employment. Lightening did not strike immediately as for
Saul on the road to Damascus. But change commenced within three
months when I attended a women’s workshop at my church. The first
assignment of the weekend workshop was to journal, and then make
a collage of one’s dreams. I started writing skeptically, since dreams
seemed long past, but after several pages discovered I had written
about a center to help individuals and families heal. I immediately
asked, “What’s that?”, and the journey of spiritual opening began.
While attending a yoga class that week end, I felt a level of peace
that had eluded me for a long time. I began yoga in earnest, and
then attended a workshop two months later that led to becoming a
healer, which eventually resulted in my founding Sacred Path Healing
School. SPHS is a three-year program of spiritual study which helps
individuals open high sense perception, heal from physical, emotional
or mental trauma, find their life task and strengthen inner connection
to Spirit. Healing skills taught in years two and three and a fourthyear apprenticeship program also develop spiritual healers.
Spirituality is different than the rules and rituals of organized religions.
Spirituality encompasses a deep inner meaning of the sacred, whether
that meaning comes from nature, awareness of guides and angels, or
divine masters such as Christ, Buddha, Abraham, Mohammad, etc.
Prayer may be one method of connection. However, prayer often
consists of requests or pleading with the divine for areas deemed
inadequate in one’s life. Therefore, meditation or learning to align into
stillness so that one may truly ‘hear’ or perceive their inner soul’s voice
often results in a deeper quickening or inner awareness of God.
My first experience of the mystical happened shortly after the
dissolution of my marriage. After tucking my children in for the night,
I dissolved into tears of sadness, asking, ‘How will I ever take care of
them, they’re so young?” Suddenly a huge presence appeared near
the window in the bedroom. I could see vibration and brilliant light
and a motion (not unlike angel wings) that filled me with warmth, and
healing light. Very clearly, on my inner screen, I heard, “Do not fear,
Body
they are in my hands.” My sadness dissolved as I sat absorbing the
healing light emanating from this divine presence. From that blessed
experience, I knew we would manage. Subsequently, when I wondered
how I’d pay for an unexpected expense, the needed money arrived
with just the right timing; sometimes I was asked to teach a special
continuing education class, or offered a part-time nurse practitioner
position, which covered exactly what was needed. I soon learned to
surrender all needs to prayer, knowing that they would be met.
Many years passed as I continued with life, focused more on earthly
needs than on an inner path. The loss of my 27-year-old daughter nine
years ago was the tragedy that led me even deeper into connection
with God. Through the painful stages of grief, I found deeper and
deeper connection within. I was also blessed to be able to ‘hear,’ ‘see,’
and sometimes just directly ‘know’ messages from Mindy across the
veil or from Spirit.
One message was that Mindy, who had been a poet while alive, was
now working with Kahlil Gibran in spirit and that she wanted to
write through me. I had never been a poet, thinking I only knew
professional writing. However, the next morning I awoke, secured
pen and paper in hand, and sat. Shortly, poetry began to flow. I
healed more and more as the writing emerged. Also, poetry that fit
the lessons I was putting together for the curriculum for Sacred Path
Healing School unfolded
Finding the courage to allow the spiritual into my life was worth all
the changes that emerged. I leave each reader with the challenge to
surrender personal ego and allow Spirit to guide them into stepping
into their life’s mission and task.
Awakening
There is life in the mundane tasks and accomplishments on earth,
Or life lived aligned with the Divine.
The former brings successes challenges, and victories,
But none fills the inner emptiness relentlessly driving one on.
It is only in the latter deeply surrendering ego,
Stepping forth into places and spaces of unknowing
That Spirit is able to connect and guide us on.
Often loss, grief, illness, or tragedy is necessary
To shake us from life lived in earthly striving.
But when one stops and listens deeply within,
The voice of God, Holy Spirit, Shekinah, the Self is heard.
Some awaken feeling, some seeing, some knowing
This inner Presence of the Divine.
Life is never the same once the connection is secured.
The blessing, the inner light, the ‘blanket’ of love
Surrounds, infilling, realigning one’s heart and soul.
It is in this mystical knowing that
‘God in me and me in God is One.’

The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Eating Raw
[Q&A]
Q: Mark, for the past several months, I have been interested in adding
more raw foods to my diet. I just picked up your new book, The
Complete Idiot’s Guide to Eating Raw and am really enjoying it. Can you
give me any other pointers on going raw.
A: We came up with a list of dos and don’ts for folks to consider as they
embark upon their raw journey. Consider these tips:
Do
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
eat fresh local and organic foods whenever possible.
listen to your body.
sleep when tired.
eat when hungry.
drink and bathe in clean water.
prepare as much of your own food as possible.
get moderate exercise.
enjoy the sunshine (in moderation) as it produces vitamin D for
your body.
supplement your raw food diet with vitamin B12
rinse all produce well, especially non organic produce.
read food labels very carefully.
spend time in the produce aisle and at farmers markets locating
new produce to experiment with.
enjoy the local raw community scene or create one.
Don’t
•

get frustrated if you are not living up to your expectations.
buy food with additives or preservatives.
judge others by what they eat or don’t eat.
wait until tomorrow to make the healthy choices.
allow the well intentioned advice of friends and family deter
you from making changes you wish to make.
You will begin to discover your own dos and don’ts as you introduce more
raw foods into your life. Let your body and your intuition be your guide
as you continually learn from others.

Coveted Mangosteen Fruit Holds the Power of Xanthones
Powerful antioxidants, Xanthones tout multiple health benefits
About
the
size of a
p e a c h ,
with a dark
purple rind
and
white
center, the
mangosteen
fruit, or Garcinia mangostana,
has been revered for its health
benefits and touted for its
delicious taste.
One of the
most praised tropical fruits; it
is found primarily in Southeast
Asia and is composed of a rind,
pulp and seeds. Known to most
natives as the “Queen of Fruits,”
the mangosteen is the leader
among all others in containing
xanthones – a family of vigorous
phytonutrients with significant
antioxidant properties.
Research shows the mangosteen
fruit, especially the rind, is
nature’s greatest source of
xanthones.
More than 40
xanthones have been identified
in the cherished fruit. Studies
show that xanthones promote
several health benefits – from
supporting immune-system health
to promoting cartilage and joint
function.* Xanthones can help
maintain the integrity of the
stomach’s lining and a healthy
seasonal respiratory system.*
According
to
mangosteen
folklore, the fruit was used by
countless generations to treat
dysentery, diarrhea and urinary
tract infections, and topically to
treat eczema and other skin/
wound disorders. Traditionally,
the pericarp of the mangosteen
fruit, which consists of the pulp
and the rind, was used to control
fever and ward off infections.
Unavailable to be imported
into the United States, the
mangosteen
fruit
is
now
available to consumers as a
great tasting beverage. XanGo™
Juice is a delicious, daily dietary
supplement that harnesses the
nutritional attributes of the whole
mangosteen fruit through a potent
proprietary formula. Created
from an exclusive puree of the
entire mangosteen, XanGo™
Juice is the most concentrated
source of xanthones available in
a beverage.
XanGo® Juice has been
described as sweet, snappy,
crisp,
revitalizing
and
sensational. One to three ounces
each day is recommended to
channel the health properties
from the xanthones found in
the mangosteen. Each bottle
of juice passes more than 220
quality tests before it is served
to consumers worldwide. This
beverage marks the creation
of a new supplement category,
celebrating the natural goodness
of the mangosteen and the
prized nutritional properties of
xanthones.

NEW BOOK RELEASE
The Enlightenment and Captain James Cook
The Lono-Cook-Kirk-Regenesis
by Janet Susan Holman
The Enlightenment and Captain James Cook,
The Lono-Cook-Kirk-Regenesis, is a thoroughly
informative and a deeply personal read. It is a
fictionalized biography that takes place during
Britain’s Age of Enlightenment and Discovery
and it is highly truth-based, integrating the first
written and compiled Polynesian facts and
mythology, including the diaries and actual
journals of the many men on board Cook’s
ships. No writer has better put together a more complete compilation
of the facts integrated with mythology and told in novel form, giving
the reader a bird’s eye view of the action. She touches on James
Cook and his co-relation with Gene Roddenberry’s James T. Kirk and
how that relates to her own account of learned spiritual wisdom and
her mythic writer’s journey.
Janet gives a personal account of her journey that was guided by
aumakua (Hawaiian and British ancestors alike) and Archangel
Metatron, to create a feature film script
about James Cook that led her on a spiritual
pilgrimage where she encountered the truth
behind reincarnation, remanifestation,
archetypes and extraterrestrial realities.
She then made a trip to Sarnath, India
and also discovered a link to Polynesia
with the name ‘Lono’ (or Rono; the name
Cook was referred to when he arrived
in Polynesia) and the Phurba Diety in
ancient Tibet.
Reviews: This is an important story that needs to be told and your
writing is very good. See to it that the film gets produced.

GoYin™
Over 5,000 Years of Wisdom
“Only through balance will you find full health” ---Asian Proverb
For the first time in modern history there is a health beverage that offers more
than great nutrition and antioxidant protection. GoYin combines nature’s best
ingredients in a formula based on 5,000 years of Traditional Asian Medicine or
TAM. Through a system of health and healing, TAM works by helping people
achieve a “balance” of yin and yang in their bodies. Yin and yang are opposing
yet complimentary forces. When balanced, the body is in a harmonious state in
which all parts work as intended and the body is empowered to heal itself.
One principle way TAM promotes balance is through diet. All foods and herbs
have yin (cold), yang (hot), or neutral tendencies. Eating too much or too little of one
type of food, regardless of nutritional value, results in imbalance. To combat this, yin
foods must be combined with yang foods in the right proportions. The formula for GoYin
follows the strict concepts of TAM by blending superfruits, fruits, and herbs in just the right
proportions to bring out the true power of each.
Some results of drinking GoYin are increased energy, lowered blood pressure and cholesterol, relief of joint and muscle pains, and much
more –without the side effects of western medicines.
GoYin was officially launched in October of 2007. What better time than now to join a ground floor
opportunity? For more information about GoYin and/or the opportunity please contact:

ALOHA AINA MAUI RETREAT
By Danya Pharisien
Aloha and welcome to Aloha Aina Maui Retreat, located on Maui’s
North Shore. We are nestled into a verdant river valley, overlooking
spring fed pools. This is truly sacred land you can feel. We hold
7-day retreats and will work with you to create an individual yoga
and healing program for your specific needs and desires.
Our intention is to provide you with a place
of sanctuary, close to nature and the healing
powers of the elements. You will relax, unwind
and rebuild your energy. We are here to serve
your needs.
We have two small cottages, tipi and a bedroom
space next to the bathroom for quiet, clean,
sleeping accommodations. I have lived on Maui
for the last 35 years and developed Aloha Aina
from raw land into a beautiful healing retreat as
I have felt the great need for healing in nature.
My love for the land shows in every detail.
Inspired by the lush, serene landscape where I
live, I have spent my time teaching yoga and dance and painting in
watercolors and oils.
I have been teaching yoga for 20 years and have incorporated a
unique style of kundalini and vini yoga to rejuvenate and recharge
RETURNING TO THE ESSENCE
By Shivallah
To bring about a significant and
transformational change in one’s life, it
is necessary to have our consciousness
brought into the present moment, into an
awareness of being consciously present
within this timeless presence. The purpose
for such a focus is to step out of the process
of habitual thinking and emoting that not
only creates a false identity, but keeps our
attention distracted from the living presence
of real life, here and now. The necessity of such focus for awakening
the truth is absolute, for our essential being exists as the embodiment
of true life in this one and only moment called “here-now.”
Hence the effortless flow of life and love we experience when we are
riveted in those moments of conscious awareness ... absorbed in the
joy of being, for the sake of being absorbed in joy.
Do I have your attention yet? Are you with me in a quality of
absorption whereby you have for a moment become oblivious to the
past and future? If you have, then welcome home to the sanctuary
that your heart truly recognizes as home. Now take refuge, even if
only for a brief moment, in this sacred space that has and always
will remain untouched by the world, in spite of the attempts by our
mind to convince us otherwise.

the body and enhance mind, body and spirit connection. I love
teaching dance as well in our medicine wheel that is 33 feet in
diameter surrounded by gardenia trees. I am about inspiring others
in feeling free and graceful in their bodies and connected to their
natural creativity and joy.
I am very passionate about sharing this magical land, yoga, dance,
hiking, swimming, delicious meals and wonderful adventures.
I would love to help everyone to feel the blessings
of living close to the earth in sacredness and
feel the healing energy that the earth mamma
gives to us when we are open.
It is clear to me that this planet and all the people
on it are ready for a great change and we can
only make the shift if we become strong and
centered within. The breath in yoga practice is
a key for the most immediate changes to occur
and gives the power of peace and joy within
to help us with any difficulties we may have in
our daily lives.

We have been collectively trained to compromise and abide by
consensus agreement to pass over the reins to the mind and do what
we are told, fueled by the force of fear, deceived by the illusion that
it was our idea in the first place. You could ask, “How is it possible
to focus on the spiritual, though, when one is undergoing the duress
of survival, either individually or as part of a culture experiencing
famine, destitution, torture or even genocide?”
I would reply in this way ... Could it be that this is the degree of
pressure required for consciousness to awaken itself? Is this pressure
ultimately being applied by the “universal intelligence” through
compassion, even though it appears to be completely irrational and
void of love? Could it be that the “One” consciousness is simply
awakening itself from its self-imposed dreaming of infinite dreams
and nightmares?
As we return to the essence we see the
perfection in all things and the perfection
of wholeness flowering from the seed of
crisis.

Take Back the True Power of all your Assets!
Nicolette Farnworth, Founder and Owner of Financial Fitness Coach
Nathan Rothschild said, “It requires a great deal of caution to make a great fortune;
and when you have got it, it requires ten times as much wit to keep it.”
At a time when the economy is a
major concern for most people,
there are new solutions to the
worry of debt and the drain on
resources, called ‘interest.’ One
woman has created a program
that combines her desire to help
others empower themselves and
the tools and techniques to help
people gain the true power of
their assets and build wealth
for their families and create
legacies.
For many years, Nicolette
Farnworth studied Hawaiian
healing arts from the wisdom of
Hawaiian elders (Kahuna). From
this spiritual base, Nicolette
developed training courses
in a variety of topics of selfempowerment, and self-healing.
She implemented a curriculum
for ongoing weekend, ten-day
and month-long workshops
and trainings. She shared her
trainings in Hawaii, California,
and Canada. Nicolette offered
classes for “principle centered”
living, healthy nutrition, and
strategies for women’s emotional
and spiritual needs. A few years
ago, Nicolette started Hilo’s
first Curves Fitness center. She
continued to teach women how
to take charge of their lives.
You might wonder how someone
focused on spiritual growth
would switch to the financial
world. Well, Nicolette brings
her experience in guiding
trainings to financial coaching
with a long-range view of the
future. She says, “When I sold
my business, I thought all my
problems with money were over.
I then realized that my problems
had just begun. I was shocked
at my true lack of understanding
of how to manage my money
correctly.”
Nicolette began to read books
about finances and to study
32
i n s p i r a t i o n
with experts. Her concepts
about money changed quickly
as she learned the techniques
to optimize assets. When she
started showing friends what she
had learned, it has ballooned
into an amazingly successful
business: the
business
of
saving clients
100’s
of
thousands of
dollars by just
learning adult
math.
The Financial
F i t n e s s
Coaching
approach is unique and is the
first system of its kind in Hawaii.
Most financial planners divide,
defer, dump, and dissipate
family wealth. Usually wealth in
a family lasts no longer than two
generations.
What Financial Fitness coaching
does is protect, perpetuate,
preserve and empower family
wealth. This enables families to
leave their children not only their
wealth but also, their wisdom,
knowledge, skill, and values.
Simply put, they help families
leave a legacy.
Financial Fitness Coach has
developed a system that will
capture family experiences,
knowledge and wisdom and
transfer them to your heirs with
respect,
responsibility
and
accountability. They design a
proactive approach that redirects
taxes to the causes you support,
including to your family.
Clients are encouraged to follow
a regular program of exercise and
j o u r n a l
good nutrition to maintain health
and wellbeing, including a focus
on emotional health. Coaching
helps to provide clarity, balance,
focus and confidence for all
members of the client’s family.
They help to establish formal
education,
h e a l t h
care,
asset
protection,
and
money
borrowing
guidelines.
Financial
F i t n e s s
coaching
helps clients
to establish regular “Family
Retreats with a purpose” and
to develop a Family Mission
Statement, and build a family
wealth bank that preserves the
value of life experience and
personal knowledge that benefit
the family as a legacy.
Financial
fitness
requires
building knowledge, what we
call financial IQ. There are six
phases to the coaching process.
Clarity Phase: This first step
allows the client to explore
surprising, seldom understood
strategies of success. This is a
key component to dramatically
improving financial IQ.
Assessment
Phase: The
coach meets privately with the
decision makers in the family
to clarify future objectives. We
complete a confidential profile
designed to identify the personal
and financial achievements
that will bring the client future
satisfaction.
Education Phase: Clients
attend educational forums and
read specific books to ensure
a correct knowledge base of
necessary principles. This step
allows them to examine indepth these seldom-understood
strategies.
Design Phase: Our design
team of experts analyzes the
confidential profile and prepares
a recommended 60-page Action
Blueprint based on the client’s
objectives.
Success Formula Phase:
At the presentation of the
preliminary Action Blueprint, the
coach addresses questions and
makes any needed adjustments.
Action Blue Print Phase: The
Action Blueprint helps the client
achieve success.
Additional
training, coaching, monitoring,
and yearly plan assessment
guarantee success. Once the
plan is set up, the client spends
10-30 minutes a month paying
all their bills and keeping on
track. Clients receive additional
training as they progress.
Under the guidance of Financial
Fitness
Coach,
Nicolette
Farnworth helps clients learn
strategies that will allow them
to become debt-free and even
create passive income for life
along with a valuable legacy for
the family.

What is EM?
EM is the abbreviation for
Effective Microorganisms™.
Like many discoveries, EM
(Effective
Microorganisms)
Technology™ emerged almost
by accident when Professor Teruo
Higa—the father of EM—turned
to the study of microorganisms
after
being
poisoned
by
agricultural chemicals. This
lead to research in the best
combinations of microorganisms
until EM was formally introduced
in the 1980’s.
EM was initially used for
sustainable agriculture. EM
enhanced the microbiology
of soil using safe, Effective
Microorganisms™ that reduced
the dependency and use
of chemical fertilizers and
pesticides—a
major
step
forward in terms of environmentfriendly agriculture and safety
for field workers. Soon, EM
was being used in countless
new applications
around the world.
Today,
EM
HAWAII,
LLC,
is dedicated to
promoting

The human immune
system is very vital for
good and sustained
health. Therefore, it is
important that we eat foods that
support its health and well being.
Foods that contain immune

Keep Us Healthy.
Eating a low fat
diet and shifting
from a fatty meat
diet to a diet high in
vegetable protein
can help develop
a healthy intestinal
micro flora. These
changes favor the
growth of beneficial
microorganisms such
as lactic acid bacteria
and certain kinds of
yeasts, and help keep
them healthy and
active. Keeping our
intestinal micro flora
healthy is vital in maintaining our
own health and well being.*
What is EM•X®?
EM•X® is a proprietary blend
of brown rice, rice bran,
papaya fruit, and kelp in pure
water that has been fermented
using our unique, proprietary
process, then micro-filtered to
provide you with a drink that is
100% natural. Since EM•X®
contains only substances that
support the growth of beneficial
microorganisms and substances
that the good microorganisms
produced, it provides a perfect

DO YOUR E-MAILS NEED A DASH OF FUN?
In the early morning hours in
November 2004, Bob Reina,
Talk Fusion’s CEO, was in North
Carolina visiting family. He was
about to become CEO of Talk
Fusion but he did not know it.
At that moment, all he knew was
that his wheels were turning with
the endless possibilities.
It all started with a 10 second
video of a dazzling mountain
home he wanted to
email to friends. But
the video file was
too big; America
On Line said it was
not possible. But Bob knew
otherwise. He called his IT
genius, Dr. Jonathan Chen, who
said it was possible. Inspiration
was taking shape.
How many people would love to
send crystal-clear video emails
to their friends and family? No

a best pals wedding. How many
businesses around the world
would like to communicate better
with their customers? Wow! The
wheels were really beginning to
turn. Goosebumps were all over
and not from cold weather.
It was like somebody turned
on the light. He searched the
Internet, high and low, looking
for someone else doing this.
Bob had a “why hasn’t anyone
done this before?” moment,
and because he knew network
marketing inside and out, he had
the best vehicle to get the product
to a global marketplace.
In his many years in the industry,
Bob had seen it all. Every product
had the best of intentions but
most fell short. Bob racked his
brain for something better. He
found it.
Entirely original, video email is
an untapped global goldmine.
At Talk Fusion, superb is the
only option. Bob believes in
going on vacation; just not while
inspiration is flowing.
Create video emails that will impress everyone.
After all, isn’t that the point?
It is so simple, anyone can use it.
No Internet experience necessary.

Laughing Yoga Good for you!!!
By Guru Yogi Ramesh
Laughter is the best medicine for stress release
and Yogis have been practicing for the last
5ooo years. Modern research explains
why. Laughter pumps pain-relieving, mood
enhancing endorphins into the bloodstream,
increases lung capacity, improves blood
circulation and alleviates pain while reducing
stress inducing chemicals. Laughing Yoga
uses the power of joy with deep breathing
exercises {pranayama} to relax the stress free
body and mind. Laughter will set you free
and help you “get out of the box” with natural
playfulness. A stress free mind and disease
free body is your birth right. Be happy and
love your life now.
The benefits of laughter:
1. The best medicine for the heart
2. Stress buster
3. Strengthens the immune system
4. Anti-aging
5. Aerobic exercises
6. Internal jogging
7. Natural pain killer
8. Controls high blood pressure
9. Controls depression and anxiety
10. Alleviates bronchitis and asthma
11. Laughter makes you feel good
anywhere anytime
12. “Laughter a day keeps your death away”
Chant the yogi mantra I AM HAPPY, I AM
RELAXED anywhere, anytime--you will
