The 2004 Surgeon General’s
Report
states
women who smoke during
pregnancy increase the risk
of pregnancy complications, premature delivery,
low-birth-weight infants,
stillbirth, and sudden infant
death
syndrome
(SIDS). The report revealed that up to 17.5% of
teenaged mothers smoked
during pregnancy and 18%
to 25% of all women quit
smoking once they become pregnant.
In an effort to educate
the community about the
dangers of smoking, reduce the number of
women who smoke while
pregnant, and improve
birth outcomes, the Low
Birth Weight Development
Center (LBWDC) has received a grant from the
March of Dimes agency.
The grant allows for the

Maria Rosa Delgado started working at the Low Birth
Weight Development Center in late June. She really enjoyed the challenge and has realized how wonderful it is
to work with children. She believes that we are their
hope and that we can truly make a difference in their
education and lives.

1st Annual Family to Family Campaign
The Low Birth Weight Development Center Family NEEDS your help!
We cannot do this without you and therefore we are calling on our donor families to help our center families. We will be calling on our supporters in late October to consider a gift to help grow our services. Your financial commitment to
the center helps to support our program families. Please give us a moment of
your time to share with you how you can make the difference.
Thank you.
