S TA R TA L K
ARIES
[mar 21 – apr 19]
Avoid arguments
about politics, religion
or racial issues today.
Don't get caught up
in squabbles about
education or legal
matters. People want
to fight today!
TAURUS
[apr 20 – may 20]
Disputes about shared
property, inheritances,
insurance matters, taxes
and debt are likely today.
Because you feel you have
something personally
invested, you could be
upset. Try to stay calm.
GEMINI
[may 21 – jun 20]
Be extra patient
with partners and
close friends,
because arguments
can break out easily
today. People are quick
to react emotionally.
(This includes you.)
CANCER
[jun21 - jul 22]
Cooperation with
co-workers is possible
if you're tolerant and
easygoing today. Don't
react if others are
short-tempered, because
this is a temporary
thing. Be forgiving.
LEO
[jul 23 – aug 22]
Avoid power struggles
with children today.
Romance is also
rocky. Keep in mind
that people are too
ready to start a fight
today. (Keep clear of
this!) Yikes!
VIRGO
[aug 23 – sept 22]
It takes two to make a
fight, so keep this in mind
if domestic quarrels begin
today (especially with
parents). Just keep silent
and coast today, because
by tomorrow, things will
look completely different.
LIBRA
[sept 23 – oct 22]
You might be overzealous
trying to persuade others
to agree with you today.
You're keen to enlighten
people, because you
want them to see things
the way you do. (Does
it really matter?)
SCORPIO
[oct 23 – nov 21]
Arguments about
possessions or money
might arise today.
Postpone these
discussions for another
day, because this is just
a temporary dark cloud
on your horizon.
SAGITTARIUS
[nov 22 – dec 21]
You feel more emotional
today because the Moon
is in your sign.
Furthermore, it's at
odds with fiery Mars.
This means you're not
going to take lip from
anyone! (Hey -- chill out.)
CAPRICORN
[dec 22 – jan 19]
Use today's
energy to do
some wonderful
research and find
answers behind the
scenes. You probably
can solve old problems
if you're patient.
AQUARIUS
[jan 20 – feb 18]
Avoid squabbles
with groups or
members of groups
today. Later, you'll
be glad you did.
(These arguments
will get you nowhere.)
Take care!
PISCES
[feb 19 – mar 20]
This is a poor day
to be lippy with
authority figures.
Don't overreact, and
don't say or do anything
you'll later regret. Keep
your head down and
your powder dry.

Batman soars to number one
BATMAN: The Black Mirror enters our hardcover graphic books best sellers list at number one. The story features Dick
Grayson, the former Robin, filling in for the Dark Knight and encountering a new evil: a man called the Dealer who traffics in the weapons of supervillains. Complicating things is the return of Commissioner Gordon’s son, James, who is a
psychopath. The story, written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Jock, is incredibly compelling and reads even better as
a collected edition than it did as single issues. In other comic book news, Diamond Comics Distributors announced the
sales figures for November that had DC Comics leading the market for the third consecutive month since that publisher’s initiative in September when it restarted all its continuing series and re-introduced its heroes as if for the first time.
DC had six of the 10 top comics this month, with Justice League, Batman, Action Comics and Green Lantern in the
top four positions. Marvel held numbers 5, 6, 7 and 10, and Detective Comics and Flash respectively held the 8 and 9
spot.

A COVER OF THE COMIC BOOK JUSTICE LEAGUE
Children’s Books of 2011
NYT SYNDICATE
YOUNG ADULT
Between Shades Of Gray.
By Ruta Sepetys. (Philomel, $17.99.)
This haunting novel exposes the horrors
of Stalin from the perspective of a 15year-old Lithuanian girl, evacuated to a
camp in Siberia. A “superlative first
novel,” Linda Sue Park wrote in the Book
Review.
Daughter Of Smoke And Bone.
By Laini Taylor. (Little, Brown, $18.99.)
“A breath-catching romantic fantasy
about destiny, hope and the search for
one’s true self,” according to our reviewer, Chelsey Philpot, this high-speed
adventure involves love between angel
and demon.
Level up.
By Gene Luen Yang. Illustrated by Thien
Pham. (First Second, $15.99.)
Smart, hilarious and affecting, this
graphic novel tells the story of an aspiring gastroenterologist and video game
enthusiast struggling between realising
his father’s dreams and understanding
his own ambitions.
A Monster Calls
By Patrick Ness. Illustrated by Jim Kay.
(Candlewick, $16.99.)
Based on an idea from the late Siobhan
Dowd, this novel tackles the subject of
a young boy dealing with his mother’s
death. “Powerful medicine,” our
reviewer wrote, and “a potent piece of
art.”
The Scorpio Races.
By Maggie Stiefvater. (Scholastic Press,
$17.99.)
Based on Celtic myth, this vivid and original fantasy involves magical waterhorses and two riders determined to win the
annual Scorpio races. “A complex literary thriller that pumps new blood into a
genre suffering from post-‘Twilight’
burnout,” our reviewer said.
MIDDLE GRADE
Amelia Lost: The Life and
Disappearance of Amelia Earhart.
By Candace Fleming. Illustrated.
(Schwartz & Wade, $18.99.) Gives children the nuanced, accurate portrait of
America’s famed pilot they deserve — as
well as a good story, impeccably
researched.
Drawing From Memory.
Written and illustrated by Allen Say.
(Scholastic, $17.99.)
Part memoir, part graphic novel, this
account from the Caldecott medalist
describes how his coming of age in Japan
paved his path to children’s literature.
Every Thing On It.
By Shel Silverstein. (HarperCollins,
$19.99.)
On par with A Light in the Attic, this
posthumous collection of 140 poems
makes you miss Silverstein and his seemingly effortless but incomparably funny,
touching verse all the more.
The Fingertips of Ducan Dorfman.
By Meg Wolitzer. (Dutton, $16.99.)
A novel about the real world of championship Scrabble, with a fantastical twist.
Our reviewer, Stefan Fatsis, called it an
“empathetic and sometimes farcical
exploration of the emotionally confusing
lives of preadolescent boys and girls.”
Heart and Soul.
Written and illustrated by Kadir Nelson.
(Balzer & Bray/HarperCollins, $19.99.) “A
grand and awe-inspiring survey of the
black experience in America,” Walter
Dean Myers wrote in the Book Review.
This is history for children on both an epic
and human scale.
Okay for Now.
By Gary D Schmidt. (Clarion, $16.99.) The
lead from The Wednesday Wars returns
in this tragicomic story about a struggling
middle grader. Our reviewer, Richard

Gopnik wrote in these pages.

of 2011...
There’s no place like New York in a blackPeck, read this book “about the healing
power of art and about a boy’s intellectual
awakening” through “misting eyes.”
Queen of the falls.
Written and illustrated by Chris Van
Allsburg. (Houghton Mifflin, $18.99.) The
bittersweet true story of a 62-year-old
teacher who became the first person to
barrel over Niagara Falls. Van Allsburg
resists romanticising the story and
includes its melancholic edges, illustrated
in exquisitely detailed drawings.
Secrets at sea.
By Richard Peck. Illustrated by Kelly
Murphy. (Dial, $16.99.)
This mouse adventure follows four siblings as they cruise to England, accompanying their husband-hunting human
counterparts. “Rife with snappy asides
and clever but never heavy-–handed,” our
reviewer wrote.
Seriously Norman!
Written and illustrated by Chris Raschka.
(Michael di Capua/Scholastic, $17.95.)
This humourous first novel by picture
book author Raschka describes life from
the perspective of a less than stellar student. “Reading it is a visual, loopy, absurdist experience,” Meg Wolitzer, our
reviewer, said.
Wonderstruck.
Written and illustrated by Brian Selznick.
(Scholastic, $29.99.)
Telling the story of a boy who searches for
his father in New York and the tale of a
deaf girl in 1920s Hoboken, Selznick
weaves the two into a seamless story that
“teaches a respect for the past and for the
out, at least as it’s depicted in this gorgeously dreamy landscape of deep midnight blues. The city comes alive after
dark at the same time a family becomes
aware of the comforts of home in a story
about how a community and a family
come together when the lights go out.
Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction
Site.
By Sherri Duskey Rinker. Illustrated by
Tom Lichtenheld. (Chronicle, $16.99.)
A debut author and an accomplished illustrator team up in a meeting of bedtime
tale and construction book. This lullaby in
rhyming couplets will also be loved by
girls, with its images of vehicles clasping
stars and cradling teddy bears.
I Want My Hat Back.
Written and illustrated by Jon Klassen.
(Candlewick, $15.99.)
A bear has lost his hat. A rabbit has stolen
it. The bear finds out. From this premise,
Klassen has created an inventive book that
will have children scratching their heads
and then laughing with glee once they “get
it.” Both story and bear have bite.
I Must Have A Bobo!
By Eileen Rosenthal. Illustrated by Marc
Rosenthal. (Atheneum, $14.99.)
A melodramatic boy, Willy, and a cat,
Earl, both lay claim to a sock monkey.
With adorable illustrations and sharp but
spare text.
Me ... Jane.
Written and illustrated by Patrick
McDonnell. (Little, Brown, $15.99.)
Jane Goodall, the subject of this pictorial
biography, and Patrick McDonnell,
author and illustrator, are splendidly
matched. Careful scenes captured in
watercolours show how Goodall’s childhood shaped her adult life.
Meadowlands:
A
Wetlands
Survival Story.
Written and illustrated by Thomas F
Yezerski. (Farrar, Straus & Giroux,
$17.99.) Meticulously researched and
expertly drawn, Meadowlands is impassioned without being preachy. A fine
introduction to our role in environmental
devastation and –protection.
My Name Is Elizabeth!
By Annika Dunklee. Illustrated by
Matthew Forsythe. (Kids Can Press,
$14.95.)
The indignity and aggravation of the mispronounced and mistakenly abbreviated
name! Elizabeth, a feisty and outspoken
girl, addresses those who misaddress her
in this artfully drawn tale.
Over And Under The Snow.
By Kate Messner. Illustrated by
Christopher Silas Neal. (Chronicle,
$16.99.) A girl and her father are skiing
when a red squirrel darts below the snow.
Quiet, gentle and incomparably lovely,
this book reveals a wintertime world
under the surface.
Pomelo Begins To Grow.
By Ramona Bodescu. Illustrated by
Benjamin Chaud. Translated by Claudia
Bedrick. (Enchanted Lion, $16.95.)
A baby elephant’s growth spurt also spurs
worries. “Funny, smart and idiosyncratic,
graceful and intuitive in a way that feels as
much dreamed as written,” our reviewer,
Bruce Handy, said.
Samantha On A Roll.
By Linda Ashman. Illustrated by Christine
Davenier.
(Margaret
Ferguson
Books/Farrar, Straus & Giroux, $16.99.)
A girl, a pair of new roller skates, a preoccupied parent. This ode to the glorious
adventures — if also perils — of benign
neglect pairs Ashman’s perfectly rhymed
text
with
Davenier’s
animated,
humourous drawings.

How to make patchwork baubles
Lifestyle
guide
WHAT you need: Plain baubles, shiny or matt. PVA glue, water, bowl and something to mix it with. An assortment of small
bits of fabric (thinner fabric works best). Ribbon for hanging
What to do: Mix PVA with water (about 50/50) in a bowl with a brush or old pencil. String some pretty ribbon or strips of
fabric through the ring at the top of the bauble. Cut your fabric into small, similar-sized, square pieces. Dip each bit of fabric
into the glue, squeezing out the excess glue on the side of the bowl, then smooth on to the bauble. Repeat with the rest of
your fabric. You’ll need to find somewhere to dry the baubles as you make them. I hang them on a knitting needle or kebab
skewer wedged between two piles of books. Put some newspaper or a plastic bag down underneath them, as they’ll probably
drip. You can use just one type of fabric for a more uniform bauble, or use multicolored fabric for a true patchwork look. Once
dry, hang on the tree. Then step back with a glass of mulled wine and enjoy your handiwork.
Multitasking home thermostats
The new thermostats

information about your local
weather and tailor their
work accordingly. These

advanced, sometimes
easier-to-use interfaces, to
make programming less of
a chore
FARHAD MANJOO
NYT SYNDICATE
A
COUPLE of months ago, a
Silicon Valley start-up
invited me to review its
new home thermostat. I
wasn’t expecting much.
Can you blame me?
Thermostats are annoying. Many models
require that you study a cryptic manual
to set your heating and cooling schedule;
on some models, even replacing the batteries can test your patience.
If you do go through all the trouble of
setting up an ideal schedule, then when
the weather or something else in your life
changes (say, your cold-fearing relatives
from Florida move in for a few weeks), the
thermostat won’t adjust to your new circumstances. Then you have to program it
all over again — or, more likely, forget
about programming it and manually
change the temperature a few times a day.
Over the last few weeks, though, I’ve
become unreasonably excited over these
devices. That’s because I’ve tested several new models that all offer much-needed improvements over the run-of-themill thermostats that most of us have on
our walls.
Depending on the model, these new
devices can accomplish several amazing
feats. They connect to the Internet, which
means they can be adjusted from afar,
using the Web or your phone. The
Internet connection also allows them to
get information about your local weather
and tailor their work accordingly.
Lastly, these thermostats all have more
advanced, sometimes easier-to-use
interfaces, to make programming less of
a chore. Indeed, the device made by that
Silicon Valley start-up, called the Nest
Learning Thermostat, even promises to
automatically create a schedule suited to
your tastes.
Let’s start with the Filtrete 3M-50 WiFi Remote Programmable Thermostat,
made by 3M. The Filtrete sells for about
$100. A basic thermostat is $20 to $60,
but $100 is much lower than the price of
the other high-end thermostats I tried —
although this low price comes with a few
disadvantages.
The 3M-50 does have the Web capability of the new crop of thermostats, but to
connect it to your Wi-Fi network requires
a special power cable that runs between
your heating or cooling equipment and
your thermostat. Many older homes,
including mine, don’t have this wire; I
had to repurpose another wire to get it
working, but you may need a professional to install the device.
I also found the 3M-50 operating manual to be convoluted and the touch screen
not very precise; sometimes when I was
trying to press one button, I wound up
engaging another.
The 3M-50 comes programmed with a
schedule designed to save money on
energy. I found this preset schedule fairly comfortable; I just needed a few
tweaks to achieve an ideal temperature.
The manufacturer promises that if I stick
closely to the preset program, I could
save up to one-third on my energy bills.
More costly than the 3M-50 is the
Honeywell Prestige HD thermostat,
which can be combined with several addon components. The Prestige isn’t sold to
the public; you must buy it from and
have it installed by a professional contractor. It will cost $200 to $300, not
including labour. And the added components — like sensors to read temperatures in different rooms or a module to
control the device over the Internet —
sell for more. Over all, the entire system
can cost upward of $500.
I liked the Prestige quite a bit. The
touch screen gives you a general’s view of
your home’s climate. The bright blue display and the readings of the temperature
and humidity (inside and outside your
house) make it look like a screen from
the Weather Channel.
But my favourite feature was a small
hand-held unit called the Portable
Comfort Control. When you set a standard thermostat to, say, 70 degrees, it
will adjust the temperature until its own
sensor reads 70 degrees. But in many
homes, there’s a vast difference between
the temperature at the thermostat and
the temperature in far-flung bedrooms.
The portable control solves this problem
by having its own temperature sensor; by
tapping its screen, you can set the thermostat to use the controller’s sensor as
its main reading. If you set the thermostat to 70 and you bring the controller to
your bedroom, the Prestige will see to it
that your bedroom is heated to exactly
70.
This was a blessing for me. My home
office, where I spend eight hours a day,
usually gets much warmer than the rest
of my house. Locating the portable control there during the day kept the heat off
longer, saving energy. My favourite of the
new thermostats is the Nest. When I saw
it, I swooned. A brushed-steel orb that
resembles HAL from the film “2001,” the
Nest looks like no other thermostat. Also
unlike most of them, it promises to learn
your temperature preferences, set itself
up automatically, and, as your tastes
change, strive to keep up.
The Nest costs $249 from the company’s Web site or from Best Buy, though
you have to wait: When the Nest went on
sale a few weeks ago, it sold out immediately. The firm has declined to say when
the Nest will become available again, but
you can fill out contact information on
the site to get an alert when it does.
You can install it yourself, or pay $120
to a Best Buy installer.
I popped it in myself, and found it easy.
The instructions were clear and the
device ships with all necessary parts,
including a built-in level to help you
install it straight. The firm says that the
Nest is compatible with most heating and
cooling systems; to see if it works with
yours, there is a handy guide on the Web
site.
I installed the Nest in 30 minutes, with
another 5 to set it up and learn how to
use it.
This is the Nest’s best feature. Because
it was designed by Tony Fadell, who
headed the team that created the iPod,
the Nest has a wonderfully intuitive user
interface that even technophobes will
quickly grasp.
You control the device by turning a
wheel on its circumference, and you
engage its main button by pushing on the
face. Don’t worry if this sounds complicated; once you touch it, it will be obvious
how to use it.
The Nest requires no programming. It
has a host of sensors and sophisticated
algorithms for learning your temperature preferences. For the first few days,
you set the temperature yourself; as with
the other new thermostats, you can control it from afar through the Web or an
Furcifer
timoni
iPhone or iPad app (an Android app is
coming soon).
A few days after my installation, the
Nest reported that, from my initial manual settings and other sensors, it had
learned the family’s habits and preferences. It would warm up early in the
morning, cool down when my wife and
son left for the day, heat up again in the
evening, and cool down once more, at
bedtime. This analysis was right on the
money.
The Nest further encouraged efficiency
through subtle persuasion: if you set
your temperature to a slightly more environmental (and economical) setting, the
Nest displays a leaf icon on its front
panel.
The Nest also knows when you are
travelling; if its motion sensor detects no
movement, it enters “away” mode.
Indeed, when we left for a week’s vacation, the Nest noticed our absence and
lowered the heat appropriately. (What if
your thermostat is in an out-of-the-way
place that you don’t pass by often? It will
figure that out, too — if it finds that
you’re overriding its away mode, it
begins to discount its own motion sensor.)
But when we had houseguests and I
raised the temperature to make the guest
room more comfortable, the device did
not adjust to those changes. This forced
me to manually tweak its schedule.
Because the Nest is connected to the
Internet, though, the company says that
it can periodically issue software updates
to improve the thermostat’s ability to
learn your preferences. This is an amazing possibility. Not only did the Nest start
out working pretty well, it promises to
keep improving.

JON Bon Jovi wants fans to know he’s not dead,
and he has posted a photo proving it. False reports
of the New Jersey-born musician’s death spread
online after a fake news release surfaced on social
media sites. Bon Jovi is recently shown in a picture on his Facebook page holding a sign that
reads, “Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey.” Bon
Jovi was performing at a charity concert at the
Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank when false
reports of his death surfaced online.
REBECCA Black’s infamous Friday video has topped all other
YouTube videos of 2011 with 180 million views. The Google Inc
video-sharing site announced its most-viewed clips of the year
recently. The 14-year-old Rebecca was turned into a viral video
celebrity after her parents paid a production company to make the
music video for her. Friday became an unlikely, off-key global hit.
Because of a legal dispute with Ark Music Factory, the video has
had two YouTube incarnations, both of which were tabulated in the
year-end count. The second most popular video was Ultimate Dog
Tease, in which an owner taunts a dog with food and voices its
reactions.

A
RECENT report from Star magazine claims Sandra
Bullock is looking to file a $20 million defamation
lawsuit against her ex, Jesse James, for bad-mouthing
her during his recent appearance on the reality series
American Chopper: The Build-Off. Throughout the
show, James referred to Bullock as “some Hollywood actress” and
painted his whole experience being married to an actress in a negative light, saying, “I’m not what I became.” He tried to insult
Bullock and her lifestyle.
But the beloved starlet can only be pushed so far and it looks
like she’s searching for a way to strike back at her former flame. A
source told the magazine that while the actress “has consistently
taken the high road by never talking about Jesse since their split,
I don’t expect her to play the shrinking violet forever if his jabs
have secretly been causing her emotional distress.” Another insider went on to say how Bullock could hit James with a defamation
suit, with one legal expert claiming that “asking for $20 million in
damages would not be out of the realm of possibility…”
However, the legal expert also speculated that Bullock may
choose not to pursue the lawsuit if James threatens to disclose
more personal information about her. But, defamation attorney,
Aaron Morris, countered the possibility, saying, “If Jesse keeps
revealing personal information about Sandra, she could also stop
him by suing for invasion of privacy.”
A memorable Christmas for Charlie Sheen

(From left) Charlie Sheen, Sam, Denise Richards, Eloise and Lola.
ARLIER this year he said
he wanted to rip her hair
out and called her a ‘vile
kidnapper’.
But over the course of the last
few months, as he rebuilds his life,
Charlie Sheen has been making
amends with his ex-wife Denise
Richards.
Now the 46-year-old actor has
accompanied the 40-year-old
actress on a holiday to a tropical
destination.
The amicable exs have taken a
vacation together along with their
two daughters Sam, seven, and sixyear-old Lola.
Denise’s six-month-old adopted
daughter Eloise has also joined the
group.
The former Two And A Half
Men star has posted a slew of pic-
tures on his Twitter account since
arriving at the unknown destination recently.
Upon their arrival he uploaded a
picture of himself, Denise and the
three girls posing on the balcony of
their hotel on his WhoSay account.
The actor captioned the picture
as ‘a Christmas to remember’.
He Tweeted: ‘what’s better than
a modern family vacation!?! love
spending winter break with Denise
Richards and my kids!’
Charlie also tweeted that he and
Denise were ‘watching the beautiful sunset’ together.
The hellraiser, who on many
occasions used to spend his mornings still partying from the night
before, got up bright and early to
go fishing.
‘6:30am Hemingway would be
proud. I think the great DiMaggio
would be proud of me today. Hell...
I’m proud of me today!’ he wrote
on the social networking site.
Denise too has also been tweeting up a storm about the family
trip.
Before their arrival she posted a
snap of the family’s overloaded
luggage cart at the airport, along
with the tweet ‘We don’t travel
light!!’.
And later she tweeted, “Having a
fabulous dinner with the girls and
Charlie!’
The last time Denise attempted a
holiday getaway with her former
husband, it ended in disaster.
Denise found herself at the centre of a drama, accompanying
Sheen to hospital after he trashed
his New York hotel room.
Not long after the incident, he
became embroiled in a bitter custody row with Denise .
Sources connected with the case
told TMZ at the time that Sheen
wanted to set up an agreement to
have daughters Sam and Lola on
weekends.
Following the case, Charlie publicly called Denise a ‘traitor’, ‘vile
kidnapper’ and a ‘dog thief.’
He then went on the road trip
with his My Violent Torpedo of
Truth/Defeat is Not An Option
stand-up comedy tour.
In August it appeared that things
were on the mend between the former couple with Charlie even purchasing a house for his ex-wife.
He bought a property for Denise
six doors down from his own in a
gated Malibu community.
At the time the actor explained
that his number one motivation for
having Denise close is that it it will
be possible to see his two daughters
as frequently as possible. Denise
and Sheen divorced in 2006.

No shoulder surgery for Shabana
Bipasha Basu’s birthday bash to be an 11-day affair
SHABANA Azmi is happy she doesn’t need a surgery for her
fractured shoulder. But the restless and workaholic actress is
upset about the complete rest that she has been advised to take.
“Thankfully, no surgery required but four weeks of NO travelling
and then six weeks of intense physiotherapy required. Not looking forward to it,” Shabana posted on her Twitter page. A few
days back, she had posted: “Have fractured my shoulder and
need surgery! Disappointed about missing out on a wedding, but
things without remedy should also be without regard.” At 61,
the veteran actress keeps herself busy with films, theatre and
several social causes.
BIPASHA Basu’s birthday celebrations, which falls on January 7,
will be an 11-day event. Says the Bengali bombshell, “I start travelling for the promotions of Players from December 26 until
January 7. In fact, from January 5-7, I will be in London for the
premiere of Players. I’ve told producer Vikram Malhotra that they
have to celebrate my birthday everyday for the 11 days I’m on the
promotional tour!” Bipasha adds that she’s big on birthdays and
loves to have her friends over. “I also want lots of gifts. Abhishek
Bachchan, Sikander Kher and I are a gang. We are planning to
party on most days.” Bips will return to Mumbai on January 7 and
have her family and friends over for a final party.

Shah Rukh Khan

S
HAH Rukh Khan, who
played anti-hero in the
beginning of his career,
returns in a negative role
in his movie Don 2: The
King is Back. The superstar says
that portraying villainous characters gives a different high to an
actor.
“I really enjoyed it. I will be really honest and I am not glorifying
badness in real life and these are
just films and stories, but as an
actor it is one of the greatest highs
to play a villain’s role,” said Shah
Rukh at the launch of the video
game based on Don 2, which
released yesterday.
Directed by Farhan Akhtar, the
film also stars Priyanka Chopra,
Boman Irani, Lara Dutta, Om Puri
and Kunal Kapoor.
“Farhan Akhtar as a directoractor and Priyanka as an actor
would agree that it’s a different
kind of a high for an actor to play a
villains role,” said SRK.
The 46-year-old, who rose to
fame by playing negative roles in
super hit films Baazigar and Darr,
believes in the existence of one central character, who can be either
good or bad.
“I started with theatre and there
was nothing like a hero for me.
There was a protagonist, a central
character. I have been a bad guy on
stage, I have been a good guy on
stage...,” said SRK.
“I was thrilled that I got this
opportunity and I did not think of
the hero type roles. Now that I am
getting a chance to play a negative
role in Don after so many years,
there is no justification to it and
being bad is also important to
take the world forward,” he
added.
This year Shah Rukh’s megabudget sci-fi film Ra One released
and he also made cameo appearances in Always Kabhi Kabhi and
Love Breakups Zindagi.
“I really enjoyed playing a villain. I will
be really honest and I am not glorifying
badness in real life and these are just
