LIVE & INTERACTIVE TRAINING WORKSHOP AT KAIRUKI HOSPITAL (KH) DATE: 6TH -8TH JUNE, 2014 THEME: “Laparoscopic Surgery for Quality Health Care Services to the Public” Workshop Description: This is a two-day intensive live and interactive Laparoscopy Surgery training workshop which will be followed by a half-day skills laboratory training session on the third day. The first of its kind to be organized in Tanzania, this workshop will be followed up with more advanced laparoscopy training workshops in the near future. PROFILES OF PRINCIPAL FACILITATORS Dr. Muganyizi Kairuki MD, FCS Chairman, Workshop Organizing Committee. Dr. Muganyizi Kairuki is a Consultant General Surgeon at Kairuki Hospital (KH) with an immense interest in minimally invasive surgical procedures, especially Laparoscopy. He also serves as a part-time lecturer in the department of surgery at Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU). Equipped with a long and wide-ranging experience in trauma surgery following his postgraduate training at Witwatersrand University and with many years of practice in several hospitals in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr. Kairuki is currently in the process of establishing a robust Laparoscopic Unit at Kairuki Hospital and strengthening Intervention Endoscopy services at the same hospital. As a member of the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care as well as the Association of the Colleges of Surgeons of South Africa, Dr. Kairuki has attended several Laparoscopy surgery and endoscopy seminars, workshops and short courses at various institutions in South Africa, India and Kenya where he made professional presentations. Administratively, Dr. Kairuki is currently the Vice-Chairman of Mission Mikocheni Health and Education Network (MMHEN) an NGO in which KH and HKMU are incorporated. Koto is a Professor, Head and Chief Specialist in the Department of Surgery, University of Limpopo, Medusa Campus-South Africa. Professionally, He is one of the leading surgeons in the field of minimally invasive surgery in South Africa, having pioneered the application of minimally invasive surgery in Advanced Trauma in South Africa.
