In the case of absentee bids, the purchase price is payable no later than two weeks after the auction. If payment has not been made in accordance with these Conditions of Sale, POSTERCONNECTION shall impose a late charge calculated at the rate of 2% of the total purchase price per month. The buyer shall assume full risk and responsibility for the lot purchased upon the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer. The items purchased at the auction remain the property of the consignor until the full invoiced amount has been paid. Once payment has been made in full, the lot purchased can be collected. No item shall be claimed or removed until the conclusion of the sale. In the event POSTERCONNECTION shall, for any reason whatsoever, be unable to deliver the lots purchased by the buyer, its liability shall be solely limited to the rescission of the sale and refund of the purchase price. POSTERCONNECTION disclaims all liability for damages, incidental, consequential or otherwise, arising out of its failure to deliver any lots purchased. These Conditions of Sale, as amended by any posted notices or verbal announcements during the sale, constitute the entire terms and conditions under which the property listed in this catalogue will be offered for sale by POSTERCONNECTION, INC. as agent for the consignor. 1. By bidding at auction, whether present in person or by agent, by written or telephone bid, or by any other means, the buyer agrees to be bound by these Conditions of Sale. 2. For a period of one year from the date of the sale, POSTERCONNECTION, as agent, warrants the authenticity of all lots contained in this catalogue. This warranty is non-transferable and is made only to the original buyer of record and is conditioned on the said buyer returning the purchased lot in the same condition as at time of sale. The buyer’s sole remedy under these warranties shall be the rescission of the sale and refund of the original purchase price paid for the item, and this remedy shall be exclusive and in lieu of any other remedy which might otherwise be available to the buyer as a matter of law. 3. The catalogue has been written in good conscience and according to the information available. All property can be inspected and examined prior to the auction. The items contained in the lots are used and, unless otherwise specified, in good condition for their age. All items are sold „AS IS.“ POSTERCONNECTION has made reasonable efforts to insure the accuracy of the descriptions and any background information provided for each item listed, but disclaims any warranty with regard to such descriptions, including, but not limited to, the year of publication, measurements, condition, authorship, or translation of a title. Information beyond the technical description of the items offered for sale is meant to serve as „help“ to the reader of the catalogue and is in no respect warranted. Legitimate complaints must be made within three days of receiving the item in question but must be admitted within 21 days of the end of the auction, and entitle the buyer exclusively to the remedy as set forth in paragraph 2 of these Conditions of Sale. Neither POSTERCONNECTION nor the consignor makes any representation or warranty, express or implied, whether the buyer acquires any copyrights or other intellectual property rights in lots sold. 4. POSTERCONNECTION reserves the right to divide any lot, to combine any lots, and to withdraw any lot before or during the sale. 5. All lots are put up for auction at the price printed in bold type in the right-hand column of the catalogue, unless several higher bids have been made in writing in advance. All lots are subject to a reserve price, the minimum price agreed to with the seller, below which the lot will not be sold. No bids below the reserve price of any lot will be accepted by the auctioneer. Estimated market values are printed to the left of the reserve price in the catalogue. 6. Bidding generally advances in increments of 5 - 10%. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. The auctioneer has the right to reject any bid and to vary the bidding increments at his discretion. In the event of any dispute between bidders or any other issue with respect to the highest bidder, the auctioneer has the sole and absolute discretion either to determine the successful bidder, to continue the bidding, or to re-offer and resell the lot in dispute. In the event of any dispute after the sale, POSTERCONNECTION’S record of final sale shall be conclusive in all respects. 7. Absentee bids will be executed by POSTERCONNECTION on the bidder’s behalf in competition with other absentee bids and bids from the audience to purchase the item at the lowest price possible. POSTERCONNECTION shall not be responsible for any errors or omissions to its execution of such bids. POSTERCONNECTION reserves the right to decline to undertake such bids in its sole discretion. All bids must state the highest bid price the bidder is willing to pay. In the event identical bids are submitted, the earliest will take precedence. Bids such as „buy“, „maximum“ or „at any price“ are only valid up to three times the estimated market value. Telephone bids will only be accepted if they are confirmed in writing prior to the auction.8. Upon the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer, title to the offered lot shall pass to the highest acknowledged bidder, who, thereupon (a) immediately assumes full risk and responsibili- 9. The purchase price payable by a buyer shall be the sum of the final bid and a buyer’s premium of 15% of the first $50,000 of the final bid on each lot and 10% of any excess thereof, plus, unless the buyer is exempt by law from the payment thereof, any California state and local sales tax, or any applicable or compensating use tax of another state. 10. All items are to be paid for in US currency by (a) cash, (b) cashier check or (c) personal check with pre-approved credit, or (d) direct bank to bank wire transfer. We do not accept credit cards. Any taxes, expenses, transaction fees, and banking costs must be paid by the buyer. 11. Upon request by the buyer, packing and/or handling of the purchased lots shall be arranged by POSTERCONNECTION with reasonable care but at the entire risk of the buyer. POSTERCONNECTION shall instruct an outside contractor to arrange for or otherwise transport the purchased lots. Charges for packing, handling, and insurance are payable by the buyer. POSTERCONNECTION disclaims all liability for loss or damages of any kind, arising out of or in connection with the packing, handling, or transportation of any lot purchased. 12. If the buyer fails to comply with one or more of these Conditions of Sale, in addition to other remedies available to POSTERCONNECTION and the consignor by law, including but without limitation, the right to hold the buyer liable for the purchase price, POSTERCONNECTION may, without notice, at its option, either cancel the sale, retaining as liquidated damages all payments made by the buyer, or resell the property of the buyer either publicly or privately. In such event, the buyer shall be liable for the payment of all deficiencies plus all costs, including without limitations, commissions, handling charges, the expenses of both sales, reasonable attorney’s fees, incidental damages, and any other costs or expenses incurred hereunder. These Conditions of Sale and the buyer’s and our respective rights and obligations hereunder are governed by the laws of the State of California. The Conditions of Sale shall bind the successors and assigns of all bidders and buyers and inure to the benefit of our successors and assigns. No waiver, amendment, modification of the terms hereof (other than posted notices or oral announcement during the sale) shall bind POSTERCONNECTION unless specifically stated in a writing signed by us. If any part of these Conditions for Sale is for any reason invalid or unenforceable, the rest shall remain valid and enforceable. The invalid or unenforceable part will be replaced by one which legally comes closest to its economic intents and purposes. DESCRIPTION OF THE POSTERS BESCHREIBUNG DER PLALATE Condition: The criterion under which posters, especially very old pieces, are evaluated, is different from that of printed graphic art. For this reason, the quality of a poster can still be classified as “very good”, although slight creases, stains or tears may exist on the exterior. Unless otherwise described, the conditions of the posters are very good or good. The ratings describe the condition of a poster after it has been professionally restored. (A) (B) (C) (D) Designates a poster in very good condition. The colors are fresh; no paper loss. There may be some slight blemish or tears. (A-) indicates there may be some slight dirt, fold, tears or bubble or other minor restoration, but most unobtrusive. A poster that was folded but is otherwise flawless is rated as an (A-). Designates a poster in good condition. There may be some slight paper loss. The paper may have yellowed (light-stained). (B-) designates a poster in fairly good condition, possibly with heavier than normal light-staining or noticeable repairs (even in the design area). Designates a poster in fair condition. The light-staining may be more pronounced; restoration, folds, or flaking are clearly visible. Designates a poster in bad condition. A good part of such poster may be missing. Colors have faded. (A) (B) (C) (D) Bezeichnet ein Plakat in sehr gutem Zustand. Size: The size is indicated in inches and centimeters, height preceding width. Maße: Angegeben ist die Blattgröße in Insch (in) und Zentimetern, dabei geht Höhe vor Breite. Printing technique: Usually, the posters are printed in lithograph printing technique. Since determining printing techniques even presents difficulties to experts, all of these are described here as lithographs (L). Only the posters which we can completely affirm as offset printing (O) are described as such. Drucktechnik: In der Regel sind die Plakate im Flachdruck hergestellt. Da die Bestimmung der Drucktechnik selbst Fachleuten oft Schwierigkeiten bereitet, werden alle diese Techniken als Litographie (L) beschrieben. Ausgenommen davon sind diejenigen Plakate, bei welchen uns die Herstellung als Offsetdruck bekannt ist. Diese werden als Offsetdruck (O) beschrieben. Literature: If a reference to literature is made, the respective poster is illustrated and/or further described there. Literatur: Wird auf Literatur hingewiesen, so ist das betreffende Plakatdort abgebildet und ggf. beschrieben. As a result, the poster edges show in various degrees browning from the adhesive. Based on our personal inspection, we have established the following guidelines: PS PS+ = no browning or browning is not very problematic = the browning distracts from the overall image Please contact us, if you want us to remove the plastic stripes from your poster purchase. An den betroffenen Rändern ergaben sich in unterschiedlicher Stärke Bräunungen durch den Klebstoff. Nach subjektiver Betrachtung haben wir festgelegt: PS PS+ = = keine Bräunung, bzw. nicht sehr störend die Bräunung stört das Gesamtbild Wenn Sie die Plastikstreifen bei Ihren ersteigerten Plakaten entfernt haben möchten, rufen Sie uns an, wir helfen gerne. After studying in a German architectural office, he joined the Bauhaus School of Design in 1924 where he studied with Wassily Kandinsky,Paul Klee, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and other Bauhaus Masters. He was primarily involved with the school's theater department while also concentrating on photography and painting. Facing Nazi persecution, Schawinsky took refuge in Switzerland in 1933 and then moved to Italy to work for Motta, Olivetti and other prominent clients. In 1936 he emigrated to the United States where he taught art and design under Joseph Albers and later worked with Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer. Schawinsky created few posters. In this peaceful Art Deco rendering of a stylized woman drinking coffee, Schawinsky created a powerful, almost surreal, image mainly through the use of two bright shades of color - red and blue. Extremely rare. 45 SCHAWINSKY, ALEXANDER (XANTI) 1904 - 1979 Illy Caffe 1934, CL, 54.7 x 38.5 in. (139 x 98 cm), printed by Pizzi & Pizio, Milan w oL, small edge tears, small retouched hole and needle holes in each corner, minimal scratch and circular tear in off-white area in center (B+) $ 25000 / 15000 - General Advertising 15 Raymond Gid war primarily known for creating corporate logos and typography for major clients. Gid's poster for Duncan yo-yos was one of his early poster works and was created in 1930, only one year after Donald F. Duncan's yo-yos hit the main stream market to become a popular international phenomenon for decades. Gid cleverly mixes humor, an economic use of color, and a strict Art Deco style portraying three strippeddown geometrical characters playing with a yo-yo and as a group resembling the personification of the toy itself. A phenomenal and rare advertising poster. 46 GID, RAYMOND 1905 - 2000 Duncan Yoyo 1930, CL, 31.4 x 23.6 in. (80 x 60 cm), printed by Bedos & Cie., Paris w wf horiz.
