Arch Ferguson Wood Lake Wrestling Club Arch graduated high school from Omaha North and then attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He played center for the UNO Maverick football team and this is also where ere Arch discovered wrestling. Arch never wrestled in high school but wrestled for three years at UNO. Arch started the Wood Lake Wrestling club in 1965. There have been ten state champions. They are Greg Soles, Ainsworth; Dan Daniels, Ainsworth; Jeff Spain, Valentine; Tim Ferguson, Ainsworth; J.W. Simonson, Sandhills; Mike O’Kief, Valentine; Shane Allison, Valentine; Zach Lanka, Ainsworth; Brady Davis, Ainsworth; Brandon Kenner, Ainsworth. In addition many state qualifiers/placers that have gone through throug the Wood Lake wrestling program with Arch. Arch continues to be active in the Wood Lake program which is now named “Western Edge Wrestling Club”. He attends as many tournaments as time allows. The joy of seeing a smile on a young wrestler’s face is gratifying enough for Arch Ferguson. Morgan & Geri Meier Elm Creek Wrestling Club It was nearly 22 years ago that Morgan & Geri Meier began working with the Huskerland wrestling program in Elm Creek. Geri was pregnant with their oldest (& only) son at the time (and they did not know that it was a boy). Morgan has said that he gained so much from wrestling in high school and in college that helping with Huskerland wrestling was just one way the he could give back to the sport. They continued to run the e local program for years, even when they did not have any children involved in it. Morgan did the coaching at practices and tournaments but it did not stop there. He was the driving force behind the youth in the program. He offered up an abundance of motivation vation and patience. Elm Creek has been truly blessed to call him coach. Without Morgan’s wife, Geri, the local program would not be as successful as it is today (& Morgan would agree). Geri set up the practices (working with the school to get them on the calendar), she did all the paperwork involved (tournament calendar to the wrestlers, newsletters for the parents, collecting the registration money, signing up for the AAU cards and the list goes on), and she supported Morgan in his desire to give back to wrestling. Then there is Elm Creek’s Huskerland tournament that they have run together. They line up the tournament and all of the help for the tournament (of course wrestling parents pitch in), but they do the leg work. They put on a very well well-run tournament ent each year. With the registration money that the club collects and with the money that is made on the local tournament, the club has given money back to the local high school wrestling program through equipment and money towards wrestling camps. Morgan and Geri have been married for 30 years and have been farming together since they were married. They have four children, Jessica and her husband Paul, Shaina, Brock and Shelby. They also have two grandchildren, Meredith and Everett. Morgan and Geri are both th upstanding citizens who are involved in their church and community. They are truly deserving of their induction into the Huskerland Hall of Fame. The 2011 Huskerland Hall of Fame Inductees will be recognized at the Huskeland State Meet on Saturday March, 26th. The inductions will take place at 1:30 pm in the brand new Buffalo Expo Center in Kearney, Nebraska.
