TRACKING DEVICES
Another way with technology that we can protect our
personal property from the criminal element:
There are tracking devices available to protect your
boat, RV, trailer or personal vehicle. You purchase the
device and hide it somewhere in your vehicle, trailer,
etc. The device will alert your cell phone if it detects
movement of the vehicle (vibration). The device is
equipped with a GPS (global positioning system) to
track the vehicle’s movements until law enforcement
can locate the vehicle. You may only use the device
on vehicles that are registered in your name. If you
have questions or concerns you might want to get a
ruling from the State Attorney General’s office before
purchasing or using this type of device.

Back-to-Campus Time
and Money Saving Tips
(StatePoint)
Moving
to
campus can be a fun and
exciting time for any student,
but it can also be costly.
There are several ways to
save on all the things your
student will need to make his
or her dorm a home away
from home.
Do Your Homework
Many colleges provide online
resources and virtual tours of
dorms to give you an idea of
what is provided, what you’ll
need to bring, and what
items are prohibited by the
school. Reach out to future
roommates
and
decide
together what household
items can be shared, like a
coffee maker, microwave or
TV.
Make the Dorm Home
After a long day of classes,
a dorm should feel like
going home. Personalize the
living space with matching
bedding, décor and other
linens. Retailers like Dollar
General offer a large variety
of affordable, trendy dorm
fashions to make rooms
unique and personalized.
You can also stock up
on favorite snacks and
quick meal items for more
enjoyable study sessions.

Stock up on notebooks,
highlighters,
pens
and
pencils for studying. Students
will stay better organized
with a day planner, calendar
or dry erase board to keep
assignments and due dates
in check.
Back-to-campus
sales
can often provide the best
bang for your buck on such
essentials. Take advantage
of extra savings with digital
coupons and auto-renewal
programs to save even more
money and stay stocked on
campus essentials. Autorenewals can provide quick
delivery to your address,
saving time better spent
studying.

The victim testified that
during the months from
March to July 2014,
she received numerous
unwanted text messages
and phone calls from
Harris. In many of the
text messages, Harris
threatened to either kill
or injure the victim. The
victim further testified
that she made numerous
complaints to the police
and that although he was
arrested twice during the
four to five month period,
the threats and harassment
did not stop until Harris was
finally arrested for stalking
in July 2014.
Detective Greg Hayes,
with the Galveston County
Sheriff’s Office, testified
that he was requested to
review two terroristic threat
cases that had been filed
against Harris. Through a
review of the case reports
and
interviewing
the
victim, Detective Hayes
determined that Harris was
continuing to threaten and
harass the victim. During
the interview with the
victim, Detective Hayes
took numerous images of
the victim’s phone showing
the text messages that had
been received from Harris.
Detective Hayes also
testified that he eventually
subpoenaed the cell phone
records of both the victim
and Harris.

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference at
Supermarket
(StatePoint) From price to quantity to flavor, consumers
have always considered how products affect their families
when deciding what goes in the shopping cart. And shoppers
these days are making purchasing decisions that take global
factors into consideration too, thanks to available information
about companies’ environmental and human rights track
records.
Indeed, a new “2015 Carting Away the Oceans” report by
Greenpeace evaluates and ranks supermarkets on their
efforts to protect oceans and seafood industry workers.
It found that while some major grocery chains have
made strides to source certain seafood products from
environmentally-sustainable suppliers that treat workers
fairly, much more needs to be done to address systemic
problems in the industry.
“Investigations continue to reveal that human rights abuses
are widespread problems in the global seafood industry. Top
retailers are in a position to be doing much more to protect
both the oceans and the workers that provide seafood,” says
Greenpeace senior oceans campaigner David Pinsky.
As a consumer, Pinsky notes that you also have a lot of power
to affect change when it comes to seafood sustainability
and human rights concerns. Be sure to read labels and ask
questions. Whether you shop at a mom and pop operation
or a national chain, you can talk to your grocer about the
products they carry and let them know what you would prefer
to see on the shelf. If your grocery store doesn’t change their
offerings, you can shop somewhere else.
“Your tuna sandwich may not currently represent anything
to you beyond lunch, but if you don’t investigate where it
actually came from, there is a large chance it was brought
to your plate in ways that treated workers poorly and
compromised the health of our oceans,” says Pinsky. “In
addition to having ocean safe canned tuna on store shelves,
supermarkets must put canned tuna policies in place to help
guide sustainable, socially responsible practices.”
In this year’s report, 80 percent of retailers received passing
scores overall, however all of the 25 retailers profiled have
failed on their efforts to address human rights abuses and
illegal operations in the seafood industry. To view the entire
ranking and read the report, visit seafood.greenpeaceusa.
org.
These days, eating “guilt-free” means something different to
some people, rather than just avoiding sweets and treats. By
learning more about how your seafood was caught, farmed,
packaged and manufactured, you can feed your family foods
you feel good about.
Why You Should Adopt
a Dog
(StatePoint) Dogs make a
house a home; there is no
doubt about it. If you have
ever thought about including
a dog in your family, here are
several reasons to consider
moving ahead on adoption.
Health Benefits
Between walks in the
morning, walks in the evening
and daily play time, dogs get
everyone in the family active
and moving each day -- an
important part of a healthy
lifestyle.
Lastly, adopting a pet is
a much more affordable
route to dog ownership than

Institutes of Health, which
reports that groups of new pet
owners showed a significant
reduction in minor health
problems compared to those
without pets. Other studies
have shown that spending time
with animals can reduce blood
pressure and cholesterol levels.
Why Adopt?
Between six and eight million
homeless pets enter shelters
every year. Because shelters
cannot handle all the dogs
that need a place to live, many
that don’t get adopted are
euthanized. Adopting a dog is a
conscientious decision
Where to Adopt
Dog adoption events are
an excellent way to meet
lots of potential pets at
once, helping you find a dog
whose temperament would
be a good fit for your home
and family.
Coldwell Banker Real Estate
is teaming up with Adopta-Pet.com to organize the
Homes for Dogs National
Pet Adoption Weekend on
