CONDITION OF BUSINESS
The conditions of business set up below are information guidance for prospective buyer and seller with any enquiries relating to buying or selling at
the auction. We encourage you to read them wisely and thoroughly.
THE BUYER
Estimated Price
Estimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our
specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not
be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot
will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based
upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks
including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance).
Reserve Price
The reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to
accept and below which a lot not be sold.
Buyer’s Premium
Buyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final
bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each
lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price.
BEFORE THE AUCTION
Viewing
Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in
order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for
the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to
the sale.
Condition Reports
Condition reports are available upon request. They are statements of
opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact.
Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All
goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description.
Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly
recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent
expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity,
genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot.
Registration
If you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register
with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form
and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful
bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes
prior to the sell.
THE AUCTION
Bidding
All artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done
in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer
will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders
participating by telephone or by written bid left with TREASURES in
advance. The lot being offered is usually illustrated on a screen.
Bidding Increments
Bidding generally opens below the low estimate and advances in the
following increments:

Absentee/ Written Bids
If you cannot attend the auction in person, you may bid in other ways.
The most common is written bids. Written bids are written instruction
given to TREASURES to bid for you on one or more lots up to a maximum
amount you specify for each lot. There is no charge for this service. If two
or more parties leave identical bids, the first bid received by TREASURES
will take preference. Written bid forms are available 7 days before the
sale and returned to TREASURES within 24 hours before the sale or by fax
to (021) 351 0707.
Telephone Bids
If you cannot attend the auction, TREASURES will execute on behalf of
your bid by telephone. Please make arrangements for this service at least
1 (one) day before the sale. It is advisable for you to leave your maximum
bid, in case you are unable to reach us by phone.
Successful Bids
Successful bidder will be indicated by the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer
after reaching or exceeding the reserve price. TREASURES will record the
bidder number of the buyer. Under the auctioneer’s discretion bidding
may be reopened.
Unsold lots
When a lot fails to sell, the auctioneer will not announce a bidder’s
number. Lots unsold will be returned to the consignor usually after a week
in case there are any post sale offers.
AFTER THE AUCTION
Payment
Payment of purchases should be made within 7 (seven) calendar days.
Please include your paddle number, name, lot number, and total payment
in your bank instruction. If buyers do not make any payment or notice
to TREASURES during the scheduled time, they will be considered as
withdrawing.
Collection of Goods
Goods can be collected only when payment has cleared and been received
by TREASURES. Due to space constraints, TREASURES requires that
purchases and unsold property be collected within 7 (seven) days. If the
goods remain after 7 (seven) days TREASURES reserves the right to cause
the artworks to be stored at the expense of the purchaser.
Storage and Insurance
TREASURES provides insurance cover for sold items for a maximum of
7 (seven) days after the date of the sale. If the goods have not been
removed by the deadline, the goods will be deposited at warehouse and
all storage transportation and other associated costs as well as risk shall
be at the purchaser’s responsibility.

Irsam
Irsam took his study at the Indonesian Fine Arts Academy (ASRI) Yogyakarta (1959 - 1965)
and become a lecturer at that school (1965 – 1967). His works have specific style. His great
fondness in Wayang has given a large contribution in his artworks. He was famous of artist
with decorative style with rich colours, patterns of dots and lines and textures. He rarely
left an empty space in his paintings.
He varied his themes of paintings into; 1) Daily activities, 2) Mythology and 3) Mask. The
present lot was one of his daily activities themes. This theme is expressed in paintings with
simple compositions. They often depict subjects of human’s activities without showing their
time and space. His paintings are so attractive as they are done with decorative style full of
ornamental patterns. Decorative style is a style that allows wide range of expression. It almost
has no rule. It is possible to paint a human body without minding the real proportion or the
anatomy. . In principle, the style of decorative art is an effort to present patterns of lines, colors
and textures that can express ideas with high ornamental element. Its basic principle of work
is repetition of lines, dots, colors or basic shapes till they formed a (sometimes) rhythmic and
consistent pattern.

Arie Smit
Arie Smit came to Indonesia in 1950s and to Bali in 1956. In Bali he moved one place to another,
including Denpasar, Ubud and Buleleng, in his pursuit of natural beauty of Bali which he poured it
all in his paintings. Many of his paintings depict the nature of his surrounding environment. He had
several solo exhibitions in Bandung Institute of Technology, The Honolulu East West Center, and the
Center of Strategic and International Studies in Jakarta. He received the “Dharma Kusuma” art awards
from the local government of Bali.
Arie Smit is an artist who loves natural beauty and Balinese culture in the form of imaginative painting,
painting that express the pure soul of an adventurer, a natural devotee of tropical sunlight. Nature
provides Arie Smit with a tremendous amount of energy that serves as the driving force for his
exploration. In his works, Arie portraits his deep admiration for the beauty of Bali, its mountains, palm
trees, rice terraces, the life of the farmers and particularly, the local spiritual life. Life on the island is
perpetual rich with rituals. Arie’s painting show breath-taking landscapes, relaxing youths, colourful
tropical gardens, glittering seascapes, and quiet temples that evoke a sense of wander.

Zulfa Hendra
Pure fantasy is what later has become Zulfa Hendra’s foundation in producing
most of his works. He fully demonstrates his design of work to the process
where he could play with his fantasy forms through his canvases. His objects
represent forms with illumination illusion and deepness, as if the object is
touchable, can be grasped and can be revealed in the real world. His colors
tend to be uniformed (monochrome) in different nuances of atmosphere that
invites the viewer to explore his fantasy mind.

Awiki
Awiki’s paintings of realism have special character in
form, color, and composition with “rembrandt lighting”
approach. Due to his eye illness he was no longer using
the style. Creatively he produced painting method called
“mata baur - combined eyes”. Since then he creates
impressionist painting of thick paint texture. Nevertheless
this kind of painting gained special response from public.
Awiki’s paintings include themes such as flowers, dancers,
houses, trees, as well as still life. His paintings were inspired
with his surroundings that described people’s daily lives
and tradition.
Awiki works with a purity of purpose and a mastery of
technique that set his art beyond the constraints of time
or place. Engaged in a direct impressionistic encounter
with the dynamics of light, Awiki approaches his work
with great physical courage, often enduring the ferocity
of the tropical sun in order to complete a painting. It is
amazing to watch Awiki paint, with a brush hardened to
function like a palette-knife, he works very fast with great
conviction.

Auke Cornelis Sonnega
An artist’s quest to find inspiration and spiritual contentment can take him on
a long voyage far away from home. Such was the journey for Dutch artist Auke
Cornelis Sonnega. Born in Leeuwarden and educated at the Kunstnijverheidsschool
in Amsterdam (School of Arts and Crafts), Sonnega first set foot on Indonesian soil
when he arrived in Batavia in 1935. Two years later he moved to Bali, which became
a great source of inspiration for his painting.
After the war settled in Ubud in Bonnet’s old studio in Puri Kaleran and dedicated
himself solely to painting. His style is fresh and unique, clearly influenced by his designer
training and background. It is very influenced by Art Deco and often graphic, however,
his larger canvases often transcend these limitations and can even be thought to have
a mystical impact. He also made many portraits, usually of doe eyed young men (he
was in the words of a long time Ubud expatriate euphemism a member of the “club”).
These are very stylized and use a bright palate with strong outlining of his subjects.
Sonnega, like Bonnet, stayed in Bali until 1957 when he was forced to leave by the
Indonesia authorities in the era of Confrontation. The painting becomes all the more
poignant when this separation is considered – the immortalization of a reality that was
to him a fulfillment of a dream.

Ugo Untoro
As an individual artist who is looking for meaning through imagery symbolism, Ugo’s scratchy
paint shows his indeterminate sign and poetic upon his self consciousness. His rough
scratches never recognized anything nor reach into form perfections. His horizontal lines
sometimes go beyond his conscious and offer not only form but also meaningful message.

Theo Meier
From Switzerland to the South Pacific, from Bali to Thailand, Theo Meier's life was as varied
and exotic as his artistic output, his character as colorful as the oils with which he painted.
Thailand has brought serenity to Theo Meier that made an important contribution to the
artist’s well-deserved fame. His love on the island made Theo painted numerous objects of
figures, landscape as well as village scene. Theo Meier's paintings have achieved worldwide
recognition for their technical excellence, and artistic integrity.
Laiad, was in fact, the real woman the artist needed in order to be able to create with a
peaceful mind. Day after day, she brought to his heart a new serenity, and, on 9 May, she
became his wife in a traditional Thai Wedding, well-organized by Prince Sanidh in Hua
Hin, with the consul of Switzerland in Bangkok Ernest Junier (from Basel), as the witness.
The newlyweds went to Phuket on their honeymoon, by train. Appreciating her dynamic
character, enhanced by a strong Buddhist education, Theo decided to name Laiad Jettli.
Laiad Phab Prakansiwong was Theo’s last wife. “Schatzli” is a nickname/moniker in SwissGerman on someone you hold very dear. Theo as we know was from Switzerland. SwissGerman language has many cute words like that; they add the “li” in the end of the word
to make it cozy-cute. Like “Herzgeferli”, Schnackermusli etc. All those words are used to
express that they are dear to you. “Schatzli” Theo always called her that. But the spelling
has gotten out of hand though. It’s always like that in different languages, that people spell
it their way on how it sounds. But it is actually “Schatzli”,not “Jettli” or “Yattlie” that some
are spelling it.

M. Irfan
M. Irfan was born in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra 1972. M. Irfan is included in 51 members
of the young artists from West Sumatra that recently held a group exhibition under
the theme of Panorama. He is widely known as prospective painters in Indonesian
art world. He was one of the member or Jendela Group, a group of painters from
Minang, West Sumatra. Basically Irfan is an artist that does not like to involve himself in
great or political issues. He feels that they are simply beyond his capacity and interests.
For him perceiving petty objects around him is more interesting.
Mohammad Irfan, who is often called as M. Irfan, is regarded as one of the best-selling
Indonesian visual artists in the contemporary art world. His works are being pursued
by collectors and are often appearing in auction houses. His paintings are mostly huge
in size. They portray trains, railways, and fumes which give a sense of darkness.

Dede Eri Supria
Dede Eri Supria is a super-realist Southeast Asian artist in Indonesia. He was
born in Jakarta on January 29, 1956. He studied at the Indonesian Fine Art
Academy (ASRI) in Yogyakarta, graduating in 1974. In 1976 he first emerged
onto the Indonesian Art Scene when he exhibited his work at the first Seni Rupa
Baru Indonesia exhibition at the Balai Budaya in Jakarta. Being a contemporary
artist, most of his subject matters explores about the increasing trend of
consumerism happening in Indonesia, emphasizing on the social commentary
portion on Indonesian society in his art works. Themes in his artworks include
the rich-poor divide in Indonesia, the lives of the urban dwellers in Indonesian
cities, the poor and neglected and the changes in the Indonesian society in
general, particularly in his own hometown, Jakarta. He often pictures how urban
lifestyle has oppressed the misfortunate citizens in big cities, especially Jakarta.
The present lot illustrates a group of Persija football team supporters waiting
in line before the game. The group usually called The Jakmania which was
established in 1997 and have become a certain icon of football competition in
Jakarta. Here, Dede tries to picture the lives of urban people in Jakarta, his lovely
hometown.

Putu Sutawijaya
Putu Sutawijaya was born in Angseri, Tabanan, Bali, 1971. He finished studies in painting in
Faculty of Fine Arts at ISI Yogyakarta in 1998. His works was nominated among the ten best
in the Philip Morris Indonesia Art Awards 1999. In 2000 he received the Lempad Prize for his
art from Sanggar Dewata Indonesia (SDI) and currently servers as the general chairman for
this artists’ group which is based in Yogyakarta. He has held solo exhibitions in Bali, Yogyakarta,
Singapore, Hongkong, and Jakarta. With a highly skilled of art, Putu Sutawijaya makes contour
of his paintings in impressive black lines.
Putu invests in his figurative narrative certain anonymity. The figures are androgynous and,
for the most part, faceless which is strikingly different from that of much of recent Indonesian
art which personalizes the messages of art by giving faces to the characters. For Putu, the
facelessness of his figures is not what someone looks like but rather “human expressions,
conveyed through his work, that are meant to apply cross-culturally”.

Gallery (2002). He received awards as the first winner of PMIAA, a finalist for Asean Art

Haryono aka Ubrux’ first exhibition in Europe, a breakthrough after his three earlier
solos at Semarang Gallery, Bentara Budaya Jakarta, and iPreciation gallery in Singapore.
Budi Ubrux loves to create contemporary realist artworks by exploring newspaper as a
true-lies media. This phenomenon is put into canvas in the form of human being with skin
from newspaper. Figures wrapped from top to toe in newspaper appeared suggesting a
futuristic imagination of what could happen in our uncertain future. Bandaged, swathed
and tied, the faceless sculptural figures are able to lead the imagination in wild proximity.
Since then, art observers and collectors became interested in his works.
