Replaced the innovative DSR-PD150P.
Soon established as the ‘de facto’ standard professional compact camcorder.
Used in many applications from videography to broadcast.
Famed for its picture quality, useability and low-light sensitivity.
At this time many broadcasters moving to 16:9 SD production though.
When the HVR-Z1E was launched, many Western Europe customers moved
to the native 16:9 CCD’s of the Z1E and HD capability.
– Broadcasters shooting 4:3 SD continued with the PD170P. This included
broadcasters in the CIS, Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa

DSR-PD170P is now discontinued as of July 2009.
Clearly there is still demand for an SD only Model.
Our competition still offer SD Compact Camcorders.
Our customers still demand a SD Compact Camcorder.
– Many Western Customers have moved to HVR-Z1E and HVR-Z7E and now
HVR-Z5E, for HD/SD switchability and Hybrid recording (Tape / CF / HDD)
– The new 1/3inch Exmor CMOS sensor is well accepted.
– Many customers compare this sensor’s capability in low-light to DSR-PD170P.
– Therefore the replacement for PD170P will use this sensor!

The new DSR-PD175P will share common features to
the existing HVR-Z5E.
But there are some key features that will not be
implemented:

− No HDV recording and playback.
− No direct attachment of the HVR-MRC1K
− Can be used as an option.
− No HDMI, No COMPONENT interfaces.
− No MIC / battery supplied.
− No 2nd cold shoe.
− No NTSC/PAL switchable operation option.
