NOV/DEC 2014 - Stampin` Up!
NOV/DEC 2014
Happy Holidays!
This time of year is absolutely my
favorite . . . gathering with loved
ones, decorating, listening to
music, celebrating the reason for
the season, focusing on the many
things we have to be grateful for—
the list of things I love about the
holidays could go on and on!
One of my favorite things about
the holidays is the opportunity to
give gifts—figuring out the perfect
gifts for everyone on my list and
then wrapping those gifts up
beautifully. While we can’t help
you or your customers with
figuring out the perfect gift
(although keep in mind that
Stampin’ Up!® products always
make welcome gifts!), we can
definitely help out with the
packaging part of gift giving!
We’ve discovered more and more
(especially as our grandchildren
get older) that gift cards and
money seem to be a favorite—it
seems you can’t lose when you
go that route. It simplifies things,
but sometimes money and gift
cards don’t feel very personal.
To me, that means the wrapping
becomes even more important
to make the gift feel meaningful.
As I browsed through our holiday
catalog, I was so excited to see
everything we have that makes
handmade gift packaging easy
and fun! We have several
different boxes and gift bags,
with plenty of coordinating dies,
ribbon, Designer Series Paper, and
embellishments to personalize
those boxes and bags. Or you can
just stamp a tag, add a little bling,
punch a hole, and attach that to
your gift. And I was thrilled to
see that we’ve got wrapping paper
again—I love using our exclusive
wrapping paper to make a gift
distinctive and different!
During the busyness of the
holidays, these fast but fun
packaging ideas are especially
welcome—the last thing we need
is one more thing on our to-do list
to overwhelm us, right? As you
share our packaging ideas with
your customers and guests, tell
them that “fancy without fuss”
is definitely a holiday option
this year!

Super Stars!
When you were flipping through the 2014
holiday catalog, did you stop on page 25 and
say to yourself, “I’d LOVE to make oodles of
those adorable 3D stars!” We thought you
might. We also knew you could figure out
how—you’re resourceful and innovative. But
we wanted even your most novice customers
to be able to fill their homes with these stars
too. So we decided to make it fun and easy
with die-cut pieces, peel-and-stick adhesive
edges, and accents galore all in one kit—the
Many Merry Stars Simply Created Kit.
You get enough materials to create five stars
each in these sizes: 2", 3", 3-3/4", 4-3/4", and 7-1/4".
That’s plenty, right? But wait—you can also
make a 15" star that will take center stage,
wherever you display it. Some of the stars are
the same as our Stars Framelits Dies, but a few
are exclusive to this kit.
What can you do with this veritable Milky Way
of stars? Whatever you want—group them
together for home décor, make a Christmas
countdown calendar, use small stars as place
cards at your holiday table, add ornament
hooks and hang them from your tree, loop
Baker’s Twine through the top and hang it
from a doorknob. With this kit, you’ll be the
star this holiday season!

Kits
Oh yes, it’s easy. But it also leaves room for your
own creativity. Choose which of the included
accents to use. Create your own accents. Flip
the stars over to the blank side and stamp your
own designs in colors you love. The kit comes
with everything you need to make and accent
26 stars, but you can always add your own
finishing touches.

SET OF TREES
Christmas decorations don’t have to be all ceramic
houses and fresh-cut pine boughs. Why not try
something that will get people talking? This project
is sure to get attention from your holiday guests.
Here’s how to do it:
1 . Paint the pots; allow them to dry.
2. Use painter’s tape to mask the top of the pot;
rub the area below the tape with a VersaMark Pad.
3. Pour Stampin’ Emboss Powder over the inked
area and heat set.

cut 12 of each size per tree.
• Small tree: from 3/4" to 2-1/4"
• Medium tree: from 3/4" to 2-3/4"
• Large tree: from 3/4" to 3-3/4"
2 . Slightly distress the squares and poke the dowel
through the center of each one, stacking upward
from largest to smallest. Repeat for each tree.
3 . Add foam to the pots and glue the dowel inside.
Add moss.
4 . Cut three stars from Silver Glimmer Paper, two
using the smallest Stars Framelits Dies, and one
using the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack. Trim
the star for the medium-sized tree if desired,
and adhere them to the dowels.

Something new
Welcome to your party this month! In this article you’ll find one project to demonstrate,
one to share as a Make & Take, and one to give as a hostess gift. Feel free to change things
up, but you’ll find everything you need for your next round of parties on these two pages.
“‘Twas the night before Christmas and
all through the house, not a creature was
stirring, not even . . .” Oh, wait! You’re up
being Santa’s helper into the wee hours—
stamping and snipping and wrapping!
Isn’t it true? For many of us, it’s not
Christmas unless we’re creating festive
coordinating cards, tags, and packages to
give to our loved ones and neighbors. Some
of us put extra heart into our crafting at
year’s-end. Sometimes, while the family
is tucked into bed and dreaming of sugar
plums—we’re still wide awake and making
stuff. Very pretty stuff.
Our product elves know this, so they
designed a delightful coordinating suite
of products to help us with our crafting
addiction: the adorable new Under the
Tree suite. We’ve got a Gift Box Punch
to & from box (4" x 4" x 4")

tool that you can use year-round!) Then
there’s our Under the Tree Specialty
Designer Series Paper in warm Kraft
and fresh Christmas colors. Who can
resist Cherry Cobbler 1" Sheer Linen
Ribbon deliciousness? There’s more . . .
lots more, and everything coordinates
so you can be fearlessly creative.
Why not ring in the season with a
Christmas workshop in November
dedicated to this merry suite? Invite
your friends for a fun night in! And be
sure to contact folks who are brand new
to Stampin’ Up! and show them how
easy it is to achieve a buttoned-down,
put-together look with our coordinating
products. Even new paper crafters will
get beautiful results!
At your workshop, be sure to demonstrate
our Under the Tree gift box and show your
customers just how easy it is to create
lovely custom packaging. With the Gift Box
Punch Board, they can create boxes up to
four inches on each side. (Tell them to think
of the box advent calendar possibilities!)
Once your customers see how easy it
is to make gift boxes, they’ll be thrilled
to “Make & Take” the adorable Holiday
Cheer gift bag. It’s so easy! And they
won’t believe how quickly they can make
neighbor gifts that look magazine-cover
ready. (Have a drawing for the Holiday
Cheer gift bag that you demonstrate—
so someone can go home with an extra
package to give to a friend!)
And don’t forget to let everyone see the
super-fun Merry fry box—which will be
theirs to keep if they host a party with
you before Christmas!

WREATHY
On our quest to better our best, we’ve found a way to take Two-Step
Stampin’® to a whole new level. Seriously, you may want to sit down
for this because the Wondrous Wreath Stamp Set and Wonderful
Wreath Framelits combination WILL blow your mind. Check out the
how-to steps below. But first, here’s a bit about how we’ve achieved
such greatness—and how you can too when you use these products.
Our clear photopolymer stamps allow you to see exactly what you’re
stamping and where. But when you’re dealing with an image like a
wreath, it’s easy to get confused about which way is up. Thankfully,
the stamps and Framelits each have a tab to help you stay oriented.
Just make sure your tab is facing the same direction (straight up,
straight down, or even the same 63.7 degree angle) each time you
stamp or cut a layer of the wreath, and voilà—perfection.
Tip:
You can keep the center in your wreath or you can
cut it out. If you want to cut it out, do so BEFORE you stamp.
Otherwise, it’s difficult to line up the image exactly because
the edges of the inner wreath die hide the inner edge of the
stamped wreath.
STEP 1. Cut out the wreath center
using the Big Shot and Framelits die.
Pay attention to where the tab is so
you know which way is up as you
follow the remaining steps.
STEP 2. Stamp the wreath image.

time—no marker-to-stamp, no hand cutting. To the untrained eye, it
will look like you spent hours struggling to achieve what takes only
moments of crafting bliss. After your customers gather their wits from
your mind-blowing demonstration of these amazing products, be sure
to tell them they’ll save 15 percent by purchasing the stamp set and
Framelits bundle. Woo hoo!

HELLO
What better way to welcome December than with plans
to capture the memories from every day of this joyful,
busy, and fun month!
While that might sound like just one more thing to
do during a month that already has plenty on the
to-do list, with the Hello December card collection
and accompanying products, nothing could be easier!
Our newest Project Life by Stampin’ Up! offering is
designed to help you—and your customers—make
this holiday different than any you’ve had before. This
amazing memory keeping system allows you to create
entire albums in one evening; simply tuck cards and
photos into pockets, stamp a few accents, add a quick
embellishment, write your journaling, and you’re done!
This season is the perfect time to share Project Life
because EVERYONE takes pictures during the holidays
and EVERYONE wants to organize those pictures.
Schedule a Hello December class before the month
begins, so the only thing your guests have left to do is
print their photos and slip them into place. When has
anyone ever been able to actually scrapbook during
December? When all you have to do is put a photo in
a page protector, it’s not only possible, it’s exciting!
You can even plan your event in January. Guests arrive
with a stack of photos in hand and leave with a holiday
album completely done. They’ll be thrilled, and you’ll
have a new customer for life!

RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS
During the Busy-Ness
The holiday season is a great time to showcase Stampin’ Up!’s
products—but also one of the hardest times to hold events.
There’s no time of year when our calendars fill faster or when we need
30 hours in a day more than during the holidays. In fact, it can feel like
a nearly impossible task to keep your Stampin’ Up! business running
during the holiday season. Yet with a little planning ahead, this holiday
season can be just as lucrative—and fun—as the rest of your stamping
year! Just keep these four tips in mind:
•Manage your expectations. You know what your life is like during
the holiday season. Parties, shopping, events—it’s non-stop fun!
So don’t try to do more than is reasonable. Figure out what you can
actually get done for your business in the next two months, and
work on that.
•Set your calendar now. Once you’ve figured out how much time
you can realistically (that’s the key word: realistically!) spend on
your business during the holidays, get everything on your calendar
as quickly as possible. Decide how many events you want to do in
November and December and schedule the dates now (remember
to include any prep time you’ll need to get ready for those events)!
Then e-mail the dates to your customers so they can get them on
their calendars or book their own holiday stamping parties on any
additional available dates.
•CASE (Copy and Share Everything!) the projects for your events.
We all know how easy it is to waste hours and hours of time surfing
the web (Pinterest, anyone?). While it is a lot of fun to spend time
looking for project ideas online, during the holiday season, it’s
probably not the best use of your time. Instead, use projects you
find in this issue of Stampin’ Success for your events. Then you
can spend most of your precious holiday time prepping for your
projects, not hunting for them!
•Prep early. Instead of preparing for your events one at a time, set
aside a chunk of time in late October or early November and get as
much prep work done as you can for all of your upcoming events.
The earlier you can start prepping, the better—before things start
getting too hectic! You could do any of the following prep tasks
early on:
•Write your reminder e-mails, so all you have to do is hit “send.”

Big Shot
IT'S A BIG DEAL
Most of you already know that the Big Shot is a big deal. But
not all your customers (or even all demonstrators) have had
the chance to play with a Big Shot. Sad, right? If you, your
downline, or your customers don’t have this amazing tool
and are missing out on all the fun, it’s time to join the party.
The Big Shot is a versatile tool. It allows you to emboss,
cut, embellish, build, and so much more. There are dies
that coordinate with stamp sets and product lines. There
are alphabets. There are even boxes and bows and tags!
So what’s the best way to purchase one? Let’s take a look.
Make buying the Big Shot easier for you
(or your downline).
•Host a party and put your hostess dollars toward a Big Shot.
Or, if the workshop sales reach $400 us/$525 can, you will
earn a 50 percent discount on one item—that means you
could get the Big Shot for half off!
Feature
•With just three or four parties of average sales, you could
pay for your Big Shot using your instant income.
16
» The less expensive Feathers Framelits
Dies (item 135852) are a good price
point for a beginner’s first Framelits set.
» The Joy card and envelope is for the more advanced Big Shot
user as it combines Thinlits, Framelits, and a Textured
Impressions Embossing Folder. Did you notice that the die cut
“Joy” letters from the envelope are used on the card?
© 1990–2014 STAMPIN' UP!
•Purchase a Big Shot, then schedule some classes
and set a goal to sell four more. Your instant income
from those four sales will pay for your Big Shot.
•Share the demonstrator opportunity and let them
know if they purchase the Big Shot on their first
order they’ll receive 30 percent instant income.
•If you are a new demonstrator, consider ordering
a Big Shot on your first order. New demonstrators
get 30 percent instant income on their first order.
Plus, it will count toward your sales for the quarter.
•If they’re not quite ready to invest in the Big Shot,
invite them to buy the Texture Boutique for less.
•If now isn’t the right time to purchase a Big
Shot, consider purchasing the Texture Boutique
Machine and demonstrate embossing until you’re
ready to take things up a notch.
Okay, now you’ve decided to buy the Big Shot.
What next? Well, the Big Shot appeals to many
new customer groups (moms, teachers, quilters,
students, etc.). Once you have the machine you can
reach out and talk about it with people you know
and invite them to get their own. We have a few
ideas you can share with those customers to make
their purchase a little easier.
Order your Big Shot today and start sharing it
with everyone! You’ll be amazed at what you
can do with this amazing tool.
» The Texture Boutique Machine is a less
expensive alternative if someone is only
interested in Textured Impressions
Embossing Folders.
Make buying the Big Shot easier
for your customers.
•Let customers know that if they host a party and
the sales reach $400 us/$525 can, they will earn a
50 percent discount on one item and could get the
Big Shot for half off! Or they can put their hostess
dollars toward a Big Shot.

Sharing
a passion for
Judy Sumner
Supervisor
St. Louis, Missouri
Looking at Judy Sumner's craftwork, you'd
think her creativity came naturally. But
according to her, that wasn't always the
case. "In the beginning I never thought of
myself as creative; you could even call me
a late bloomer of sorts. Over time, I made
it easier on myself by using coordinating
products and resources to help visualize all
sorts of projects," she explains. "Sometimes it works and sometimes I still
need some inspiration. That's when I simply take a page from my fellow
demonstrators and their Pinterest accounts!"
For this particular project, Judy had the chance to work with the Christmas
Cheer Stamp Set from the new holiday catalog. "I really enjoyed working
with Christmas Cheer! I initially made a list of potential projects and
planned to use hues of blue in my work—it's such a calming color—but I
changed my mind after seeing the Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper," she
said. "I think Designer Series Paper can really add a special look to a project,
even if it's just a small strip. I also like adding pearls or rhinestones to add
a little pizzazz."
Judy's Midwestern charm and down-to-earth personality show in her
work, and it's also what makes her such a natural demonstrator. "I like
to keep it simple by keeping projects small when teaching new customers
about papercrafting. It's easy to get overwhelmed with everything."
Her projects reflect that approach, as evidenced by her four traditional,
exquisite Christmas creations. Judy designed projects she felt would speak
to everyone—a Christmas card, a gift bag complete with its own tag, a box
of small cards, and a tree ornament.
This approach is what keeps her motivated to continually share her work
with new customers. "I love, love, love meeting new people. It's exciting
to meet and learn from demonstrators and customers alike, and not only
teach them new things, but learn from them as well. Most of my customers
have become really good friends!"
Though Judy has only been with Stampin' Up! for five years, she says
it's the little things that mean the most to her and her customers.
"Communication is key in these relationships. Sharing a love for these
creative opportunities is important. Stamping should be fun!"

suite simplicity
Welcome to your party this month! In this article you’ll find one project to demonstrate, one to share as
a Make & Take, and one to give as a hostess gift. Feel free to change things up, but you’ll find everything
you need for your next round of parties on these two pages.
As joyful and fun as this time of year is, it is
anything but calm for most of us. Perhaps
the best gift you can give yourself and others
during the hustle and bustle of this festive
season is a moment of serenity. The All Is Calm
product suite soothes frayed nerves and exudes
peace—and not just with its beauty. You and
yours will love how its myriad coordinating
products make creating amazing projects
simple and fun for everyone. Make anything
from cards and tags to gifts and home décor—
the All Is Calm product suite is truly a one-stop
creative shop for all your festive needs this
year. See this peaceful product suite on pages
20–23 of the 2014 holiday catalog and of course
share it with your customers.
Coordination Is Key
Our product suites are notorious for
coordination—and you cannot overemphasize
this perk when talking with your customers!
Say something like, “One of my favorite things
about Stampin’ Up! product suites is how they
simplify project planning. I don’t have to figure
out which products will work together because
everything in the suite coordinates!” Remember
coordination again when finalizing customer
orders because product suites abound with
upsell opportunities. You might say, “You’re
buying one of my favorite seasonal stamp
sets—Letterpress Winter. You know what I
love to pair it with? The All Is Calm Snowflake

make super-cute earrings you can enjoy
all winter. There are 20 pieces in each pack—
enough for a whole bunch of projects. Should
we add them to your order?”
Handmade in a Hurry
If you know Stampin’ Up!, you know handmade
cards and gifts are a meaningful way to show
someone you care. But this time of year, who
has time? Actually, everyone! Show customers
how easy handmade can be with these three
projects. The For You treat bag is an excellent
hostess gift—and a great neighbor or coworker
gift customers can make at home. The Happy
Winter frame makes a terrific demonstration
and another fun, seasonal gift that’s easy for
customers to re-create. The Thank You card
is the perfect Make & Take—a card any gift
recipient can use. Remind customers they
can easily swap out the greeting and use the
same card design for Christmas cards, party
invitations, and more. Also, be sure to point
out the MDS All Is Calm Party Ensemble (item
137086) for anyone hosting a festive party—or
even just decking the halls.
Next time you’re looking for a workshop wow,
remember this lesson: never underestimate
the power of a product suite.

Ready-Made
Holiday
Card Class
Like the sound of a holiday card class with
zero project prep for you and instant customer
appeal? Say hello to our Watercolor Winter Simply
Created Card Kit. This kit gives you a ready-made
class where each customer can create 20 holiday
cards (five each in four different designs) so by
the end of the event your customers will have a
stack of holiday cards to send to their friends and
family! In addition to saving you hours of prep
time, this kit can help you meet your minimums
since having a kit class once a month (with eight
guests) should get you there.
Plan Your Holiday Card Event
The holidays are a busy time of year for
everyone, so your customers will appreciate
having a quick way to make their Christmas
cards. And be sure to invite friends who aren’t
normally crafters—they’ll want a quick and
easy solution for their holiday cards too.
Charge a fee for the class that includes the cost
of the Watercolor Winter Simply Created Kit,
so each attendee has their own kit at the event.
The kits come with nearly everything they’ll
need to make the cards, including pre-cut and
scored card bases, die-cut accent images, and
embellishments. All you’ll need to provide is
adhesive, the Watercolor Winter Too Photopolymer
Stamp Set (item 136819), and ink (a Bermuda Bay
Classic Stampin’ Pad and Classic Stampin’ Ink
Refills in these colors: Cherry Cobbler, Coastal
Cabana, Old Olive, and Smoky Slate).
Upsell at Your Event
Briefly demonstrate how to put together each
card and as you do, point out coordinating or
related items. Here are a few ideas:
•As you showcase the sequins from the
kit, mention the Frosted Sequins and the 2013–
2015 In Color Sequin Assortment with sequins
that come in a variety of shapes and colors.
•Let your customers know that while most
of the pieces in the kit are exclusive, they
can purchase similar items such as Crumb
Cake envelopes and Linen Thread from the
annual catalog.

The kit includes: 20 card bases;

20 envelopes (10 Coastal Cabana and
10 Crumb Cake); Linen Thread; sequins;
watercolor brush.
•As you highlight the die-cut pieces, point out
that they can create their own die-cut shapes
with our Big Shot and dies.
•Let them know about our Everyday Occasions
and Hip Hip Hooray Card Kits that also come
with nearly everything they need to make a
stack of handcrafted cards, and let them know
you’d be happy to get together for another
class or party to guide them through putting
the cards together. Be sure to share that these
kits make great gifts too!
•Encourage them to purchase another Watercolor
Winter Simply Created Kit since they’ll likely
need more than 20 holiday cards—and remind
them they’ll need to buy the adhesive, ink, and
coordinating stamp set to be able to complete
the cards at home.
Pick a date for your holiday card class (or classes),
and rest easy knowing that the Watercolor Winter
kit will make this holiday season a little easier for
you and your customers.

about how to have a class using the kit. Find it
on the demonstrator website under Training >

or holiday open house.

Wishing for more sales? Granted!
If you take a look around your kitchen, you might find gadgets with
a sole purpose—the rice cooker, bread maker, and apple corer just to
name a few. They get the job done, but only have one job to do. They
are uni-taskers.
At first glance the 25 Days Photopolymer Stamp Set might seem like
a uni-tasker meant solely for stamping an advent calendar. Page 12 of
the holiday catalog features an easy sample that anyone could create
with a few supplies. Our artist even designed a stepped-up version
with more embellishments to add some “advent”ure and interest for
your customers.
But, don’t let the fun stop there!
Here are 25 more ways you could use the set:

Inspired
Cherie Hunt
Senior Manager
Urbana, Ohio
We all want to feel inspired; to freely embrace our loves, our
joys, and our passions. These emotions often drive us to create
something unique that we can share with others. Cherie Hunt
happens to find her inspiration through the people she enjoys
helping the most—her customers. “My favorite aspect of being
a demonstrator is the relationships I've made,” she shares.
“My customers have become my friends and we feel like a
family. They are what keep me invested in my business and
keep me looking for new ideas on how to use our products.”
Making a Difference
Cherie has been with Stampin’ Up! for more than 14 years now,
but said she found us largely by accident. “My oldest daughter
invited me to a workshop that was being held by one of her
college friends. It was an hour drive from home and I didn’t
want her to drive back after dark by herself, so I went along,”
she says. “I was hooked from the very beginning. I originally
thought that I would be my own best customer, but within
the first month of hosting workshops I knew I could make
this a business.” What began as simple excitement for Cherie
quickly developed into dedication to her craft. “Now, between
workshops, Stamp Camp classes, clubs, and downline meetings,
I hold about 10–12 events every month.”
When asked how she keeps customers coming back, she told
us that it's all about having fun. “I theme my events so ladies
consistently see new ideas and techniques, and very seldom do
I repeat my themes. I think that ultimately my customers are
looking for a fun, social time to meet with friends, and that’s
what I try to provide.” She also enjoys encouraging people.
“I think positive statements are very important. I make sure
to give at least two positive comments to each lady attending
my class or club. It helps to be enthusiastic. I love when ladies
come up to me after workshops and say, ‘You are having so
much fun, how can I do what you're doing?’”
She believes that setting goals and establishing habits
contributed to much of her success, and that’s what she tries
to instill in her downline. “I tell them to talk with one person
every day who doesn't know anything about Stampin’ Up! or
rubber stamps. It helps grow their business with those around
them.” But she does much more than just giving words of
encouragement. “I send e-mails or newsletters every month,
and hold downline meetings every other month so we can
share business ideas, create Make & Take projects, swap cards,
and share snacks. Because the more involved you are with your
ladies, the more committed they’ll be.”
Cherie says that to become a good leader, it's first important
to be a good role model. “Do not expect your downline to do
something you are not willing to do yourself. If you tell them
to make phone calls, then you need to make phone calls. If you
encourage them to recruit, then you need to be recruiting. Also,
be available for answering questions and assisting with ideas.”
“I don't see my Stampin’ Up! business as a job because I love
what I do.” Cherie is one amazing role model.

creating a fairy tale
TURN YOUR NEW RECRUIT’S STORY INTO A HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER.
You’ve got a new recruit. Yay! If life were a
fairy tale, you’d both live happily ever after in
your Stampin’ Up! businesses. But this is real
life, where signing up is just the start of the
story. Now you need to help the story avoid
soap-opera style twists and turns. How?
By helping your recruit stay in love with being
a demonstrator! Use these tried-and-true tips.
Keep Them Stamping
Some demonstrators decide to leave Stampin’ Up! for this reason: they haven’t used
their products in a while. You can avoid this sad ending by keeping your new recruits
stamping. Host swaps, get together to stamp, involve your recruits in stamping
sessions, or help them plan their own events. If your recruits actively interact with
the products and engage with friends as they craft, they will rarely question their
involvement on your team or with Stampin’ Up!
Build Relationships
Relationships are a big part of what we do at Stampin’ Up! While your relationship
with your recruits is important, it’s equally important to encourage them to build
friendships with others in your downline. Invite them to group meetings. Show
them how to get on Stampin’ Connection. Encourage them to attend Stampin’ Up!
events. When people feel connected, they have one more reason to stay active.
Show the Way
» Encourage your recruits to
met, they will feel secure and ready to keep going.
Let’s face it, your recruits are the ones who create their demonstrator story . . . but they
don’t have to do it alone. With your support, your recruit’s Stampin’ Up! tale can keep
going for years to come!
Business
host their own events. Then they
can use the hostess benefits to
get supplies for their businesses.
New recruits can feel overwhelmed—where do they start? What should they do?
Offer them a simple path: just get together with four friends and have a stamp night
once a month. Four is the magic number because selling four of one specific product
will make the fifth one free, thanks to instant income. One get-together a month is
an achievable goal—and having a few events a quarter should cover the quarterly
minimum sales requirement. Once your recruits realize this requirement is easily

Ask Professor
Penny
How do you use social media and
which outlets do you find most
useful for reaching customers and
getting a response?
Upcoming
Q&A
An upcoming Q&A will focus on the
following question: How do you address
the excuses people give for not wanting
to try stamping? (Reasons like "I don't
have time," "I don't have room," "I'm not
creative," or "I can buy cards cheaper at
the dollar store.")
I may not be able to share all of the
responses I receive, but I’d love to read
and share as many as possible.* Please
include your demonstrator ID with your
response. I want to make sure I give credit
to the right person.
I’d also love to know what questions
you’d like me and other demonstrators
to answer. Send your questions and
answers to
ProfessorPenny@stampinup.com
Please send responses to this question by
December 31, 2014.
*Responses may be edited for length and clarity
This is a great question. Many
demonstrators have asked me how
they can use social media in their
businesses.
First step: start with the social media
you are using. Facebook addict?
Instagram fan? Blog stalker? Do what
you enjoy. And do it in a way that will
support your business. We have lots
of tips in Stampin’ University. Check
out Stampin’ University > Running
Your Stampin’ Business > Sharing
Stamping > Social Media to learn
lots more. Don’t overwhelm yourself.
Start with what you already know/
are using and grow from there.
Aren’t using any form of social media?
Give it a try. The fact is, even if you
aren’t using social media, millions of
people are. So, if you want to talk to
potential customers, you need to go to
them. You can’t wait for them to come
to you. It’s not the only way, but one
way to “go to them” is via social media.
Check out some tips from a few
of my demonstrator friends.
Dear Penny,
I love using Pinterest to share inspiration from my
own blog and receive inspiration from all of the
other wonderful Stampin' Up! customers and
demonstrators around the world. It is amazing
that in a few seconds you can find thousands
of ideas and reach so many people.

Hello Professor Penny!
I use a business Facebook account and Pinterest
to share photos of my projects instantly from my
phone. I create YouTube videos and post them to
Facebook and Pinterest. I have a Pinterest board
named Latest Promotions and Latest Products
so if there is an entry on the corporate website
about these, I pin them because your version of
advertising is way more professional looking than
mine would be! I post essentially the same things
to both places because someone that likes to cruise
Pinterest may not have a Facebook account.

Hello from Maine,
Professor Penny!
My Stamping Peace blog goes directly to Facebook,
but I get a much better response from potential
stampers if I post directly to Facebook so that
there is nothing to open to get to the message.
