XF design the future 3 3 SWISS DESIGN 1938 1983 2011 4 SWISS DESIGN 1+1 DESIGN THE FUTURE Design the Future. When we started to work on the new table platform XF we carefully analyzed what we have learnt so far to create a structure as simple and efficient as possible. XF is designed in the tradition of best performing Swiss design. It is built with one leg and one profile only. This foundation allows the platform to adapt to today´s and tomorrow´s needs. XF is a formula where X means the variable that could work in different scenarios in the office or at home. F stands for Flow that translates into ”productive harmony“. XF essentially delivers the ”software“ to solve future needs. 5 1938 LANDI CHAIR HANS CORAY Swiss design – since its entry into modern times is synonymous for high quality, consistent reduction and maximum functionality. As a milestone of a still cherished tradition the Landi chair from Hans Coray in 1938 inspired the audience and manifested in itself the technological progress of the time. Its materialisation as well as the simple elegance provided at the Landesausstellung, and shortly thereafter, a worldwide sensation. Today, the Landi chair can be found in all major design collections around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. 91 holes, three kilograms of aluminum, a great thought: This is the stuff the legend of which Swiss design is made. 7 1983 JELLYFISH SWATCH On 1st March 1983 began the worldwide triumph of the most successful wristwatch of all times. The Birth of the Cult Swatch brand was based on a taboo: For the watch industry, it was unthinkable, to produce a high-quality clock for an affordable price. Swatch stunned the scientific experts with a revolutionary design and never seen before fully automated assembly line. For the past 28 years, Swatch captures the spirit of the time. With highprofile design contributions – including Andy Warhol, Kiki Picasso, Helmut Newton and Vivienne Westwood – the brand combines legendary Swiss watchmaker´s art with the claim for international status. 9 2011 XF XCHANGE XF – the system platform. Its essence: utility and beauty. The philosophy: the world has different needs, which it meets with innovation, versatility and dynamism. The name: XF. X is the variable that adjusts to the personal needs of the user. F stands for flow – the state of productive harmony, and the harmonious combination of motivation and attention. 2011 XF writes a new chapter in Swiss design history. Following this tradition it creates with the courage of reduction, unique objects of value with global charisma. 11 12 13 14 XF CONFERENCE The XF conference tables with its wide span and floating top is a perfect example of utility and beauty. A few legs and a slim framework easy to install and perfect for integrating technology between the open framework. 15 16 XF UTILITY & BEAUTY Design isn‘t just about making things beautiful; it‘s also about making things work beautifully. It is the preferred solution for standalone and extensions. Bending the profile allow to shape the frame according the geometry of the top. 23 FRAME S SCREW The basic framework consists of a single profile and a cast leg. XF offers two options for building the framework. Frame S is built with screws to connect the basic profiles for maximum functionality and compact shipping. 24 25 26 ARCHITECTURE & THE OFFICE Context matters and first we try to understand the space and people before we shape our solution. The highly flexible system allows for the creating of complex solutions with a minimum of parts. Simplicity as resolved complexity. 27 28 XF RECEPTION A reception based on the XF platform is more than a table. It offers privacy combined with personal storage and different levels of working surfaces in sitting and standing height. Every part at the right place. Inspired by best modern architecture, volumes and surfaces floating on pillars. 29 30 31 32 XF TEAM TABLE The XF platform translates into an elegant benching solution with a minimum of parts and installation within short time. The new toolbar caters for screens and accessories without visible screws and connectors, simply elegant and highly versatile. 33 34 35 36 accessories wall toolbar & screen screen frame based frame / drawer table top straight leg die cast leg sliding table top XF floor based storage upper storage SYSTEM The XF system is a unique offering that starts with a table and ends with open structures to be connected to walls, storage and personal storage and accessories. It follows in a natural way the form follows function idea as it was originally defined by Louis Sullivan. It is the pervading law of all things organic and inorganic, of all things physical and metaphysical, of all things human and all things super-human, of all true manifestations of the head, of the heart, of the soul, that the life is recognizable in its expression, that form ever follows function. This is the law. 37 DESIGN DANIEL KORB 38 XCHANGE www.xchange-design.ch xchange Europe Schartenstrasse 3 5400 Baden / Switzerland mobile +41 79 445 2581 phone +41 56 200 1423 contact-eu@xchangedesign.ch xchange Asia & Middle East 13-1 to 13-6, Blk F1, Jalan PJU 1/42 Dataran Prima, 47301 Petaling Jaya Selangor D.E./ Malaysia phone +60 3 780 49111 fax +60 3 780 40111 contact-ame@xchangedesign.ch xchange Australia PO BOX 44 St Ives NSW 2075 / Australia mobile +61 4 2317 5233 fax + 61 2 9144 3109 contact-au@xchangedesign.ch xchange North America 680 Case Karsten Dr., Zeeland, MI 49464 / USA mobile +1 616 893 8481 phone +1 616 879 0900 contact-na@xchangedesign.ch 39
