Dear Parents, Thank you for reading this Newsletter. GONG XI FA
Dear Parents,
Thank you for reading this Newsletter.
GONG XI FA CAI
The School hopes that all families enjoyed special Chinese New
Year celebrations last week.
There was a traditional lion dance celebration at School earlier this
week. It was unfortunate that some pupils did not witness the
spectacle. The School must be better prepared for the 2016 Year
of the Monkey!
Exciting times for Tenby Schools
All parents should have received a letter from Dato’ Lim Si Boon,
in which it is stated that Ekuiti Nasional Berhad {Ekuinas} has made
a strategic investment in Tenby Schools Malaysia, with the purpose to grow, expand and consolidate Tenby Schools
Malaysia’s leading position in private, national and international education in Malaysia, as well as outside Malaysia.
There will be no significant change in the school operations, the education syllabus and the management, and Dato’
Lim Si Boon will be the Group Executive Director and will continue to oversee the operations of Tenby Schools,
Malaysia.
These are exciting times for Tenby Schools.

Stop! Drop! Read! (Mr. Davis, Head of English & Literature)
To celebrate day next Friday, and to bring our book week to an end, lessons will
be interrupted by a message from Mr. Auster signalling the start of a 10 minute
period whereby students and teachers will drop everything and read. Therefore,
all students must bring a novel to school (that is not related to their school studies)
next Friday in preparation for this event.
Hash Runs
The Kuala Lumpur Junior Hash House Harriers meet for their Hash Runs on the
first Sunday of each month. The activity is intended as a family outing patterned
along the lines of the traditional Hash Runs but oriented towards young
participants.
Generally, venues are within an hour's drive of KL and trails are often in rubber or
oil palm estates. For most of today's children who grow up in an urban
environment, these Runs provide many opportunities to see wild animals, plants
and other wonders of nature - not to mention a chance to get a little bit muddy!
The Runs are organised and supervised by adults and the safety of the children is
paramount. Information and the directions to each month's Run can be found on
our facebook page www.facebook.com/kljhhh.
You can either join us as a Guest for each Run (Guest fees are RM10.00 per
child), or choose to become members (RM100.00 per child per year with a onetime RM10.00 registration fee). There is no charge for Parents/Adults!
Reminder: Administrative Charges
Please note that if you require copies of school reports, testimonials and
certificates etc. a charge of RM5.00 per document will apply.
Golf
Allycia 8B has been selected to participate in the National Training Camp from 1st
– 6th March at the KGPA Golf Club.

Dr. Jane Goodall
As reported a few weeks ago some of our students were lucky enough to be invited
by Starbucks to meet Dr. Jane Goodall, the world renowned primatologist,
ethologist, environmentalist and United Nations Messenger of Peace, as part of
the Starbucks Roots and Shoots Programme.
Not only were they lucky enough to meet Dr. Goodall but they were also
interviewed by NTV7 for the Bella television programme. You can see the students
being interviewed and understand more about Starbucks initiative here

U11 Boys Football
The U11 boys travelled to Nexus on
4th February for the first round of
matches in the KLISS tournament.
Following a bright start to the
tournament in game 1, the boys were
narrowly beaten by a couple of late
strikes to result in a 2-0 deficit. Game
2 was a more chastening experience
in which the boys faced a very
organised side whose dominance led
to a 5-0 defeat. Game 3 started badly
with the opponents rushing into a 4-0
lead before late dominance by Tenby
led to Amiraj Singh bagging a late
consolation goal for the Eagles to
leave the score at 4-1. The final game saw a more confident Tenby team narrowly
beaten once more by a score of 2-0. Although the day resulted in 4 losses the boys
behavior was impeccable and there were tired legs and tired smiles all round.
Secondary and Primary Athletics
The ISAC Track & Field competition takes place this Friday (primary) and Saturday
(secondary). A great turn out to recent training sessions and we look forward to
the event. Students are reminded to bring plenty of water and food for the day,
hats and sunscreen. Please ensure that athletes are here at school for 6.45 a.m.
for the bus (both days). Please wear your Tenby PE kit and good luck to all of you
representing Tenby Schools.
The KLISS Track & Field competition for secondary on Saturday 7th March at ISP
and for primary this will take place on Saturday 28th March at Nexus School.
U13 Boys Basketball
The boys started their KLISS season positively with two wins from two. They go
into the second round in the top position. Wins against Taylors and BSKL would
ensure they take home the gold medal. The second round takes place on Thursday
5th March here at Tenby.
MSSS Swimming (10th – 13th February)
Tenby swimmers have made the school proud again for winning medals in the
annual MSSS (Majlis Sukan Sekolah Selangor), which is a state level affair. This
competition saw more than 200 schools participating all over Selangor state. Joel
S4S managed to secure himself a silver medal for the Under 10 Boys 50m
Backstroke, which the Under 10 Girls managed to win 2 bronze medals for their 4
X 50m Freestyle and Medley relays. It is good news as the swimmers were up
against Selangor’s best. We look forward to see more of our swimmers on the
podium next year. We would also like to thank the parents for their support all
throughout this event.

Mock Examinations
This week all our sixth formers have been
working very hard on their AS and A2 mock
examinations. We hope this experience will
prepare them for their final exams in May
this year. They have also been looking at
ways to study more effectively during
PSHE; skills which they should be familiar
with throughout the A Level programme.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Life is busy at Tenby Sixth Form. This
Saturday 28th February our sixth formers
will go on the Duke of Edinburgh’s
International Award practice expedition
for the Bronze Award to Royal Belum. We
will be away for 2 nights and 3 days in one
of the oldest rainforest in the world, dating
back over 130 million years!
After some training in Basic Kayaking
based on Star Award 1 Training, all participants will kayak from base camp to the
Sungai Gadong campsite. From there they will go jungle trekking. “At the heart of
the Adventurous Journey, is the
opportunity for a young person to
engage in activities that require
determination, physical effort,
perseverance, problem solving
and
cooperation.” We are
certainly looking forward with
some trepidation to a rewarding,
unique,
challenging
and
memorable expedition.

Form 3 Adventure & Personal Development Camp (Reported by Ms. Lau)
On Wednesday 28th January morning, sixty-four Form 3
students and 7 teachers embarked on a 3D2N adventure
that would enrich minds and hearts. Upon reaching Virgo
Batik Resort, we were ushered into a hall where we were
given a briefing on the activities and suitable attire. After
lunch which was a buffet spread, it was time for the
activities. Students were divided into groups, each led by a
camp instructor who serves as a guide and mentor.
The first activity was intended to help us confront our fears,
learn how to trust others and listen to instructions. To reach
the place, we had to first make our way up a very steep
and occasionally slippery trail. A few students graciously
volunteered to carry the safety gears and ladders leaving
the rest of us with free hands to crawl
up when forced to. At the top of the
hill, the sight of ropes and swinging planks suspended
3metres above the ground were not a comforting sight for
many. There were five stages of ropes, each more difficult
than the last. While the instructors preached on techniques
and safety, some of us were steeling out hearts and minds for
what was to come. The first student to cross the ropes made
it look extremely easy. Soon, the activity was in full swing and
both students and teachers were shouting encouragement
and instructions from below. One of the lessons learned was
that it is easier to give instruction
than to receive and understand it
when you are precariously
balancing yourself on a line. In the end, everyone
found the courage to push themselves beyond their
comfort zone. For the night session, there were icebreaking activities and a workshop on impromptu
public speaking that exposed students to some useful
techniques.
The next morning, before
breakfast, we learned
about what it meant to be responsible in a session
that cultivated awareness of our actions and
reactions when something went wrong. After
breakfast, students got into smaller groups for the
morning activity which was to make a raft to transport
each team to a nearby
‘island’. Each group
was given six floats, 10 bamboo sticks and lots of
rope. Students brainstormed and designed rafts they
think could support them all. For many, it was the first
time they learned how to tie a proper knot. Luckily a
few students know a thing or two about basic knots.
Armed with knowledge of buoyancy and stability and
with some guidance from the instructors, the students
Page 12 of 16
managed to build a decent raft. When it was time to test the rafts, the teams took
turns to haul their rafts and paddled to the sea. Teamwork was evident in the
students’ efforts to manoeuver the raft to the ‘island’ and back to shore and at the
same time, trying not to fall into the sea.
We replenished our energy with a quick lunch
before gathering again for yet another
challenging activity. This time, it was an obstacle
course where students work in teams to
overcome 6 obstacles. At first, there was
another steep trail to conquer. One of the
obstacles was to cross a tree trunk suspended
horizontally about 2metres off the ground. Just
like any worthy goal, it was difficult but not
impossible when students are willing to lift and
support each other. Another interesting challenge was swinging a la Tarzan and
landing on plastic chairs. Learning from each other, eventually sixteen people
managed to squeeze onto 7 plastic chairs without losing their balance. The night
session was all about trust and support. Through an activity of supporting each
other’s weight, students realised the importance of supporting each other in times
of need.
On the last morning, we had a reflection activity. Reflecting on the values we
appreciate in others and the unresolved conflicts we might have with others led to
various displays of positive emotional expressions. A few of us also took the
opportunity to bury the hatchet we had been trying to ignore. All in all, it was an
enjoyable trip that promoted teamwork and developed inner strength and
confidence.
Primary Friendship Week Celebrated by Std 1 (Reported by Ms Joanne & Ms
Carey)
During the week’s English lessons, Std 1 students got to know their classmates
better through Friendship Week as they are all new to each other. They made
crafts and showed appreciation towards each other. Some of the activities were
as follows:
1. Mask-making
The children watched a video “The Lion and the Mouse” where the lion and the
mouse helped each other and became friends in the end. Then, they made a mask
of either the mouse or the lion.
2. Greeting card
The children designed a ‘Friendship card’ and wrote a famous quote in the card
for one of their class mates.
3. Bookmark
The children designed a bookmark for one of their classmates with famous sayings
included.
The children had fun making and giving the crafts they made and they are now
displayed behind the classroom for everyone to see.
During the week’s music lesson, they learnt the song ‘The more we get together’.
The children discussed about what they could do together with their friends. They
were given oppurtunities to engage with and demonstrate the skill of
communication and to transfer their knowledge to real-life meaningful contexts
across the curriculum. Their suggestions were included into the song lyrics. They
had enhanced their conversation skills with peers using sensible and polite words.
