PRESIDENTʼS MESSAGE
Members All,
We hope you and your families had a wonderful and blessed holiday season and wish the best to
all this year.
It is a pleasure and also hard to believe this will begin my second year as your president, and if
you thought I “ Loved every minute of it” last year, I am even more excited about this year. I know we
will have another successful show season with some new events and additions!
Our spring meeting is coming on March 16th ( Ken has details in this edition) . Why not everyone
wear a “Bit o’ the Green” at our meeting to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. While I am not Irish, everyone is
on St. Patty’s Day! The meeting will give members an update on our new Texas Roadhouse in Palmyra
Show in May, The GM Nationals At Carlisle in June, and of course a club favorite, the September
Texas Roadhouse Show in Hanover.
We discussed getting some new club merchandise for the upcoming season to help us on the
revenue side of things and I hope to have some proofs of a few items for discussion and of course
please feel free to bring ideas about this with you . Your input is very important always.
In closing I must thank everyone involved with making our 2012 Club Christmas Party a fantastic
event. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed all of your company on a day to relax with good times and
cheer. Paul Hartlieb did another super job with our gift exchange and if you know about it, it’s quite a
job and a ton of fun. Missy Rodgers made beautiful centerpieces and ornaments for us all. Denise did a
hand made candy basket won by Tony Pezzella and thanks to Ken for setting up the details again with
the Holiday Inn, thanks to you all.
Yours in Oldsmobile,
Rich Saullo

Buddy Baker, son of legendary driver Buck Baker, had a 34 year career. He was famous for
record setting speeds. Sometimes called "Lead Foot", he was the first to top 200 mph on a closed
course.
!
Driving a 1977 Oldsmobile 442 called the "Gray Ghost", Baker won the 1980 Daytona 500.
After the race, other drivers complained that the gray and black paint job made the car blend into the
track, making it impossible to see the car coming up behind them. Afterward, NASCAR made Buddy
put Day-Glo strips on the car.
!
The 442 led 143 of the 200 laps and had an average speed of 177.602 mph, the fastest in
Daytona 500 history, a speed that still stands today, almost 33 years later.

BLUE / GRAY 2012 Christmas Party
Thanks, Missy. Our grandson loves this house.
It spent Christmas under our home tree, along
with a train and Legos. He still plays with it
almost every day he is here.
Whadʼya get there, Rick?
