ACTION STATIONS LEARNING PROGRAMME 2014 — 2015
ACTION STATIONS
Historic boathouse No.6 is home to Action
Stations, filled with dozens of interactive handson displays, activities and simulators, pupils get a
real taste of life in today’s Royal Navy.
The learning team at Action Stations take pride
in tailoring education visits specifically to your
individual budget and learning needs, and will
happily customise your workshop to incorporate
as many or as few subjects as you need. All
workshops are designed to maximise pupils’
learning and cater for students across all levels
of the curriculum; from Early Years Foundation
Stage to Higher Education.
Bring learning to life in a completely unique
environment. Pupils will study in Historic
boathouse No.6, which was built between 1845
and 1848 and for many years was used to build,
repair and store wooden supply ships used by the
Royal Navy’s sailing battleships. On the night of
10th March 1941 the building received a direct hit
during the second Blitz of Portsmouth, damaging
the rear third of the building. In 2001 they finally
repaired the damage to the boathouse making it
the last piece of World War Two bomb damage to
be rebuilt in the city.

ACTION STATIONS LEARNING PROGRAMME 2014 — 2015
ACTION
STATIONS
LEARNING
WORKSHOPS
PIRATE LIFE!
Price: £8 per student
Ahoy there me hearties! Students can live the life of a pirate
for the day by taking part in a treasure hunt, building their very
own pirate ship to go out on the water and learning to speak
the lingo in our sea shanty workshop. Avast, belay and shiver
me timbers!
SPACE, ROCKETS AND BEYOND
Price: £7 per student
Students investigate the Big Bang, how the universe started,
how our solar system works and some of the myths and
legends that surround it. Students create rockets that could
take us to Mars and beyond.
ACTION LITERACY
Price: £6 per student
Focusing on language, students will look at different styles,
creating and developing their own pieces. They will focus on
using different terminology and how to understand language,
therefore increasing confidence. This session is aimed to
facilitate improvement by one level.
SPY WORKSHOP
Price: £7 per student
A look at some of Britain’s most famous spies, focusing on
a Portsmouth based story that resulted in a hanging at the
dockyard gates! In this workshop, students will make and
use some invisible ink, as well as taking part in our code and
cipher challenge.

KEY STAGE 1 & 2
DRAMA
Price: £7 per student
Working in groups, students will be invited to take a journey
through time in their very own time travel performance.
Starting with improvisation and moving to more structured
theatre, the students will be split into groups and given a
different era. They will then have to create a performance that
will all link together into one adventure story.
MUSIC WORKSHOP
Price: £6 per student
Boom whackers; now there is a word you have probably never
heard of! These are a series of fine-tuned plastic tubes that,
when struck on a hard surface, play specific notes. They are
great for getting the students working as a team. We will also
teach them about the key notes that make up some of the
world’s most popular songs.
At the end of the day, the students will leave with a video
recording of themselves playing a series of well-known songs
from nursery rhymes to film themes.
TEAM CHALLENGE
Price: £8 per student
Pupils work together in teams to complete different challenges
that are scored to produce a winning team. There are a variety of
challenges that can be adapted to the group – we will be happy
to design a bespoke programme to suit. This package can also be
adapted for key stages 3 and 4 (Laser Quest can be included).
