Festival of Children Foundation Keeps Kids Creative and Entertained While
Parents Rock Out At 12th Annual Doheny Blues Festival
Kids EcoZone to Provide Music, Crafts, and Fun for Families
May 16-17, 2009
Costa Mesa, CA (May 12, 2009) – Festival of Children Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity
whose mission is to improve the lives of children by strengthening the charities that serve them, is
joining forces with the 12th Annual Doheny Blues Festival in creating the event’s first Kids EcoZone. In
addition to the Festival’s twenty six musical acts, the Kids EcoZone promotes musical and artistic
creativity while teaching children how to take care of the environment and play with earth-friendly crafts
and activities.
“Festival of Children Foundation is thrilled to present the first Doheny Blues Festival Kids EcoZone”,
said Sandy Segerstrom Daniels, Founder and Executive Director of Festival of Children Foundation.
“It’s a privilege being a part of an event that brings together the arts and environmental education to
make a positive and lasting impression on kids.”
Located on Doheny State Beach next to Dana Point Harbor, the Doheny Blues Festival is the premier
summer event of its kind in California, rivaling the Long Beach Blues Festival on Labor Day. With an
international food court, authentic restaurants and world class musicians the event succeeds in drawing
more than 15,000 people each year. This year’s headliners include B.B. King, Brian Setzer & The
Nashvillians, and The Keb’ Mo’ band among many others.
Rich Sherman, the producer of the blues festival, says “We have been fortunate that the Doheny Blues
Festival has grown in local attendance and national recognition, and we feel an obligation to develop
programs for sustainability and music for kids. The Kids EcoZone is an exciting merger in both these
departments, and we are thankful for the involvement of the Festival of Children Foundation.”
The newly developed Kids EcoZone allows children to join in on the weekend’s excitement with
activities designed specifically for them. A $10 admission price provides entry to a plethora of activities
including jam sessions, a 3-D Music Scene creation with recycled goods, hydro wall climbing, the
Bounce House and much more. Doors open at 11:00am daily and the music concludes at 9:30pm
Saturday, and 8:30pm Sunday.
