Support our Wonderful STAR Program for people with disabilities and run in the Super STAR 2 mile fun run. Event is for runners and athletes of All Abilities with an accessible course. Be creative and dress up as your favorite Super STAR. The event will be held at Cornerstone Park on September 13, with a 9 am start time. The early registration fee for the event is $25 for ages 15+, $15 for those 14 and younger, and $30/$20 after August 28. All event participants will receive a race shirt and are eligible for drawing prizes donated by South Suburban and local area businesses. Refunds/Cancellations Refunds and transfers must be requested 3 business days prior to the scheduled start of an activity, unless otherwise noted. There is a $5 per class service charge for requested refunds, or no service charge by requesting a South Suburban gift card. Certain contractual classes may have additional cancellation charges. If we cancel an activity, no service charge will be assessed and a refund will be issued. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for processing. Returned checks subject to additional fees. Register online at ssprd.org or call 303-347-5999 Americans with Disabilities Act Late Pick-Up Fee South Suburban’s STAR Program supports the Americans with Disabilities Act. Program participants are offered general supervision. Specialized personal services such as toileting, dressing or feeding are not provided. However, participants who need these services may be best served by providing their own aide or companion. Qualified individuals with disabilities will be provided with reasonable accommodations in order to participate in programs. Call Carey Overstreet at 303-730-4608 for further information. Classes are open to all as long as age and skill requirements are met.” If your ride arrives 10 minutes later than the designated pick-up time, you will be charged $10 and an additional $3 charge will be assessed for every 5 minutes after the first charge. Consideration will be made for bad weather or roads. Late fees are due and will be collected at the time of pick-up. Staff will call you after ten minutes and if staff is unable to reach your ride after thirty minutes, the proper authorities will be notified. Inclusion Everyone gains from inclusion. Individuals gain new Friendships, new recreation skills and a better understanding of one another. Our goal is to provide an environment where individuals with disabilities come together with their peers participating in any recreation class or activity that South Suburban provides. Code Of Conduct Individuals are encouraged to act in a way that will not hurt another person physically, mentally or emotionally. A participant may be asked to withdraw from a class or program if behavior does not comply with the facility and program standards. • Appropriate social behavior is required. • Take direction from program staff. • Refrain from using abusive or foul language. • Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other participants, program staff or property. In some cases, individuals with disabilities may bring a friend or family member to assist the participant in class. If this is not possible, a trained volunteer or staff person may be provided. • Refrain from tobacco use during any South Suburban Program. • Must stay with the group at all times. If individuals need assistance to participate in a program, or to choose a general recreation class, call the STAR Program office at least three weeks prior to the class start date to discuss possibilities. Discipline NOTE: You must notify your one-to-one inclusion instructor 24 hours in advance if you will not be attending your scheduled class, otherwise there will be a $15 charge. Program staff will discuss the Code of Conduct withparticipants periodically throughout the program session. A positive approach is used when disciplining participants. If inappropriate behavior occurs, staff will develop a solution specific to each situation as it arises. If a participant’s behavior is detrimental to themselves or others, a parent or guardian will be called and required to pick-up the participant immediately. The STAR staff reserves the right to dismiss a participant whose behavior endangers themselves or others. Drop-Off Policy Classes and Trips are scheduled to start and end at the times listed in the brochure. Please note we are not responsible for participants prior to the start of programs or once the program has ended. If a participant uses Access-a-Ride, please communicate the pickup and drop-off times to staff, we will do our best to accommodate you.
