Innovation and Higher Education
Bonus for early study start
For the 2012 enrolment, applicants
applying for admission in quota 1 will
have their final grade point average
multiplied by 1.08 if they have completed their upper secondary education in 2010, 2011 or 2012 and if their
grade point average can be converted
to the Danish 7-point grading scale.
The time of the completion is the
date of issue on the first upper secondary diploma.
For the 2013 enrolment, applicants
having completed their upper secondary education in 2011, 2012 or
2013 will be covered, and so forth.
If the applicant’s final grade point average has not been awarded according
to the Danish 7-point grading scale,
the adjustment will take place after
conversion of the grade point average to the 7-point grading scale.
Applicants who have completed their
upper secondary education in 2007
and onwards and who are unable to
start on a programme before the expiry of the two-year deadline, can
have this deadline extended by up to
four years due to the following documented circumstances:
1. National service in the Danish
Defence, including service on
national service-like terms
2. Training and education with a view to deployment as well as deploy-
ment on international operations for the Danish Defence
3. Adoption or maternity/paternity
leave
4. Long-term illness
5. Caring for close relatives and other related persons who are disabled, seriously ill or dying
6. Training for and participation in the Olympic Games or Paralympic Games as an elite or world-class athlete appointed by Team
Danmark
The application for extension and the
documentation must be enclosed
with the application for admission.
Specific entry requirements for
the programmes
Please note that specific entry requirements (specific upper secondary
courses at A level (advanced), B level
(intermediate) or C level (basic)) apply
for all of the universities’ bachelor
programmes and for a number of the
other higher education programmes,
and that these courses must be passed with a minimum grade of 2.0
(Danish 7-point grading scale). You
can find additional information at
www.optagelse.dk and on the websites of the individual educational institution.
If you do not fulfil the specific entry
requirements via your upper secondary education, you must pass a supplementary course to be eligible for
admission. In this context, you
should be particularly aware of the
Danish ‘turbo courses’, which offer
you the chance to increase your level
or raise a grade for a wide range of
programmes during the summer
holidays.
You should be aware that certain language-related entry requirements
may be satisfied during the bachelor
programme (propaedeutics) and that
the programme is prolonged by six
months or one year in such cases.
Special grade requirements for a
number of bachelor programmes
In addition to the specific entry requirements, a few of the universities’
bachelor programmes require that
you have completed your upper secondary education with a specific minimum final grade point average or
that individual courses have been
passed with a specific minimum grade higher than the grade of 2.0 (Danish 7-point grading scale).
If special grade requirements are
specified for the programme to
which you are applying for admission,
you have the possibility to improve
your grade or grades through supplementary courses at upper secondary
level.
Please note, however, that it is only
possible for you to improve individual
grades and not your overall final grade point average from your upper secondary education.
For the 2012 enrolment, the following of the universities’ bachelor programmes set out special grade requirements (Danish 7-point grading
scale). Please note that all the levels
refer to the name of the levels in the
Danish upper secondary education

Final grade point average for
guaranteed admission to certain
higher education programmes
Some educational institutions have
set certain grade point averages for
guaranteed admission to some of
their bachelor programmes. A grade
point averages for guaranteed admission means that the educational institution has specified a minimum final
grade point average which guarantees an offer for admission. If you have
obtained this final grade point average or higher, you will be offered a
study place if you apply for admission
and otherwise fulfil the entry requirements for the programme. You can
obtain further information on grade
point averages for guaranteed admission at www.optagelse.dk and from
the educational institution to which
you are applying for admission.
Supplementary courses at upper
secondary level
If you have completed an upper secondary education which does not
meet the specific entry requirements
for the programme to which you are
planning to apply for admission, you
have the possibility of doing supplementary courses in the subjects you
need in order to obtain the levels and
grades which satisfy the specific
entry requirements for the study
programme.
Please note that almost all of the
courses offered in Denmark are
taught in Danish.

You can find more information
on supplementary courses at
upper secondary level at
www.gsdanmark.dk.
Conditional admission
It is possible to apply for conditional
admission to some programmes
even though you lack a level in a subject or do not fulfil a grade requirement, if any. Some educational institutions will grant you conditional admission, which means that you are
guaranteed admission to the programme once you have passed the
supplementary courses. The conditional admission depends on whether
you can pass the supplementary
courses in time. However, you must
have completed the supplementary
courses prior to the study start of
the programme or immediately
thereafter as indicated by the
educational institution.
If, for example, you have mathematics at Danish level B and the programme requires mathematics at level A, you may supplement the level
by doing a supplementary course at
upper secondary level during the
summer holidays, the so-called turbo
courses. You must have completed
both the course and tests prior to
study start on 1 September or immediately thereafter. The same applies if
you are required to have obtained
specific grades to fulfil the entry requirements. Your final admission and
your right to start/continue on the
programme are, however, on the
condition that you pass the necessary exams on the required level or
with a required grade prior to the study start or immediately thereafter.
This means that you will lose your
study place if you do not pass the
supplementary course(s). You should
thus apply for conditional admission
as usual by 15 March 2012. It is your
responsibility to apply for admission
to a supplementary course. Please
note that the offering of certain supplementary courses is limited to very
few course venues, and that most of
the courses offered in Denmark are
taught in Danish.
Tuition fees at recognized Danish
full-time programmes
If you apply for admission to a recognized Danish full-time programme (a
bachelor or master’s programme, a
professional bachelor programme or
an academy profession programme)
and you are a Danish national or an
EU/EEA national, you will not be
charged tuition fees for attending
classes and participating in the tests
and other forms of assessment
which form part of the exam.
A few programmes arrange their own
supplementary courses in August.
More information is available from
the educational institution to which
you are applying for admission.
It is a requirement for some programmes that you submit documentation by 5 July 2012 showing that
you are registered for supplementary
courses at upper secon-dary level.
The possibility of applying for conditional admission does not apply to all
programmes. On some programmes
with restricted admission, conditional
admission is granted only if you need
to improve one subject by one level
only. To be on the safe side, you
should ask the coordinators of the
supplementary courses at
upper secondary level or enquire at
the educational institution to which
you are applying for admission. You
can find further information on the
individual programmes, entry requirements etc. at www.optagelse.dk
and www.ug.dk.

Electronic application – optagelse.dk
Instead of using the forms on paper,
you may use www.optagelse.dk to
apply electronically for admission to
higher education programmes:
• If you have a Danish CPR number and are living in Denmark, you can apply for admission electronically; all it requires is that you have
NemID or Digital Signature. You can log on using your NemID or
Digital Signature and complete and submit the application form elec-
tronically. When you sign your ap-
plication electronically, it will auto-
matically be sent to the educatio-
nal institution to which you are
applying for admission.
You can order NemID at
www.nemid.nu.
If you have a Danish qualifying exam from 2004 or later, your final grade point average will automati-
cally be transferred to your applica-
tion. If you complete your upper secondary education in 2012, you should be aware that your final grade point average cannot be
retrieved from the exam database until you have received the diplo-
ma yourself, and the educational institutions to which you are apply-
ing for admission will therefore not receive the diploma until you have received it yourself. If you apply electronically before you have re-
ceived your diploma, you must therefore make sure that you
forward a copy of your diploma.
If you indicate other information on your application, you must make sure to send documentation for the information to the educational institutions to which you are apply-
ing for admission (remember to write your CPR number on all
enclosures). After 15 March, you can submit your diploma and other information electronically at opta-
gelse.dk, also after you have sub-
mitted your application. However, you must always comply with the educational institution’s deadline for sending additional documen-
tation, which you should check on the institution’s website.
If you have a Danish qualifying exam from before 2004, you must make sure to send a copy of the diploma and any other documenta-
tion to the educational institutions to which you are applying for ad-
mission (remember to write your CPR number on all enclosures).
• You can also complete your appli-
cation form on optagelse.dk with-
out logging on with NemId or
Digital Signature. Use the entrance “Apply without login” at
www.optagelse.dk. You can com-
plete the application form at
optagelse.dk and finish by printing a signature page. You must sign the signature page and send it or personally hand it in to the educa-
tional institutions to which you are applying for admission. Remember to enclose documentation for the information which you specify on the application form (copy of the diploma for your upper secondary education and other relevant enclo-
sures, if any).
• Finally, you can print blank appli cation forms from optagelse.dk and complete them by hand. If you print blank forms, you should
remember to print a priority form as well. You can send or personally hand in the applications to the
educational institutions to which you are applying for admission.
Remember to enclose documen-
tation for the information which you specify on the application form (copy of the diploma for your
upper secondary education and other relevant enclosures, if any).
If you have applied electronically and
want to change the order of priority
of the study programmes to which
you have applied for admission, or if
you want to apply for admission to
new programmes, you can also do
so electronically.
If you have applied for admission on
paper forms, which you have sent or
handed in, and if, at a later point, you
want to change the order of priority
of the programmes to which you
have applied for admission or if you
want to apply for admission to new
programmes, you cannot do so electronically. You need to use a change
of priority form, which you can find
and print at www.optagelse.dk. You
should also remember to submit an
application form to the educational
institution if you are applying for admission to a new programme.
9
At optagelse.dk, you can also find
information about admission requirements for the programmes,
grade point averages for guaranteed admission, if any, and new
programmes etc. Information on
programme content and career
opportunities is available on the
study guide ‘Uddannelsesguiden’,
www.ug.dk or on the websites of
the educa-tional institutions.
Information on the enrolment for
the year becomes available at
www.kot.dk on 30 July under the
so-called ‘Hovedtal’ (key figures).
Here you can see the number of
applicants and students enrolled
on the individual programmes,
and you can find the grade point
averages for guaranteed admission for the year, i.e. the minimum grade point averages
required for admission in quota
1 on programmes with restricted
admission. You can also see an
overview of the programmes
which still have vacant study
places.

It is thus necessary that you include
all the programmes to which you
have applied for admission, even
though they may no longer be relevant. If there is not enough space for
the cancelled applications in the eight
fields available on the form, you
should write them on the back of the
change of priority form.
Please remember to date and sign
your change of priority form as this
form now indicates the order of priority of your applications and will be
used as the basis for your admission.
The change of priority form must
contain all the priorities which you
indicated on the initial priority form,
but you may change the order of
priority. You may also add new programmes on the change of priority
form, but please do not forget to
send applications for admission to
each of the new programmes.
If you no longer want to apply for
admission to some of the programmes, you must cancel your applications by contacting the relevant educational institutions, but you must

Instructions on completing the application form
These are instructions on how to complete the application form. Please
read the instructions carefully before
you complete the forms. Print the
entire guide and keep the instructions
by the form while completing it! The
folder contains eight application
forms, corresponding to the eight
programmes to which you may apply
for admission as a maximum.
You must complete a form for each
programme to which you apply for
admission, also if several of the programmes are offered at the same
educational institution or if you are
applying for admission to the same
programme at several educational
institutions.
Admission rules and entry requirements may differ from programme to
programme and from institution to institution. Therefore please enquire at
the educational institution, check the
institution’s website or check on
www.ug.dk before submitting your
application.
You must enclose documentation for
your upper secondary education/entry qualifications and the activities
you have indicated on the form with
each of your applications. You must
send or hand in the application and
the related documentation to the
educational institution. On the application form, you should mention all
the activities that you would like to
have considered in connection with
the assessment of your application.
1. Personal data
CPR number
If you have a Danish civil registration
number (CPR number), you must
state it.
If you live outside Denmark, you
must enter the country code for the
country in which you are living (country codes can be found at the last pages of this guide).
2. Citizenship
Applicants without a Danish
civil registration number
(CPR number)
If you do not have a Danish civil registration number (CPR number), you
must state your date, month and
year of birth in the order indicated in
the six fields before the dash. In the
first three fields after the dash, you
must enter the first two letters of
your initial given name followed by
the first letter of your (last) family
name. In the last field, you must indicate your gender using 1 for male
and 2 for female.
So a man by the name of Clark Arthur Ellis Miller born 31 August 1990
should write: 310890-CLM1.
Contact information
It may be necessary to contact you
during the period when the applications are being processed. It is therefore important that you fill in your
contact information with phone/mobile phone number, e-mail address
and postal address.
You must fill in your postal address
with complete information on street
name, house number, floor or room
number (if relevant), postal code, city
(postal area) and country. If you live
in a room rented in a private home,
you must include the name of your
landlord (c/o). If you live at a residence hall, you must include the name
of the residence hall.
Tick the ‘Danish’ field if you are a Danish national. If you are not a Danish
national, you must enter the country
code for the country of which you
are a national (country codes can be
found at the last pages of this guide).
3. Application for admission to
You must write the admission area
number of the programme to which
you are applying for admission in the
field framed in black. Admission area
numbers and programme names for
all programmes can be found at
www.optagelse.dk in the Overview.
The number is also the number that
you must use on the priority form
and the order of priority on the
first page of the application form
(section 8).
Standby
You can apply for a standby place for
most programmes. Enquire at the
educational institution, check the institution’s website or check at www.
ug.dk. If you are offered a standby
place, you will not be admitted on a
lower priority. If you get a standby
place, but are not offered enrolment
this year, you will be granted pre-approved admission for next year.
16
Postponement of study start
Most programmes offer study start
once a year only (summer), and you
should skip this field if that is the case.
If a programme offers study start in
both summer and winter, you can
see this in the Overview at www.
optagelse.dk. You may tick this field
if you prefer starting the programme
in the winter. There is no guarantee,
however, that the educational institution will be able to comply with
your wish.
Please note that quite a few programmes offer separate enrolment
in the winter (winter enrolment).
Please contact the educational institutions for further information or
check at www.ug.dk.
per secondary education and the
year in which you completed. If you
have completed several qualifying

have their final grade point average
multiplied by 1.08 if they have completed their upper secondary education in 2010, 2011 or 2012 and if their
grade point average can be converted to the Danish 7-point grading scale. The time of the completion is the

average has not been awarded according to the Danish 7-point grading scale, the adjustment will take
place after conversion of the grade
point average to the 7-point grading
scale.
Applicants who have completed
their upper secondary education in
