DRN is happy to announce the addition of seven team
members, including three full-time staff members and
four summer employees. Michelle Kunrath, Vonnie
Schmitz, Marcus Rondestvedt, Scott Ketterling, Jeremy
Gusaas, Andrew Jepson, and Kellemon Hinton recently

Michelle Kunrath joins DRN as the marketing specialist.
She enjoys traveling, reading, fishing, and spending time

her high school diploma from Oakes High School and
graduated from North Dakota State University with a

previous positions as a public relations coordinator at the
Jamestown Regional Medical Center, a marketing intern at
DRN and the ND Department of Agriculture.
Vonnie Schmitz, Fullerton, was hired as a customer care
specialist at the Oakes customer service office. She and
her husband Jeff have four grown children. Schmitz has
lived and worked in Dickey County her whole life. She
enjoys camping, being outdoors, kayaking, and spending
time with friends and family, including her four
young grandchildren. “Being at DRN has been a great
experience and I’ve had great support while I learn my
new position,” said Schmitz.
Marcus Rondestvedt joined DRN’s technical assistance
group (TAG). When he is not working or spending time
with his wife, LaTina and their two sons, Camden and
Rivers, he enjoys playing his guitar and singing in the
band Go Murphy in Fargo. Rondestvedt is from Lisbon
and graduated from Jamestown College in 2002 with a
major in music–voice and a minor in IT.
Scott Ketterling, Oakes, and Jeremy Gusaas, Ellendale,

hired as the IT intern and is a sophomore at NDSU
majoring in management information systems with a
minor in computer science. During the school year he

Dickey-Marion Insurance Agency
Some people know exactly what they want to do from when they are very young and pursue the career of their dreams. Others test
the waters and find their lifelong goals while furthering their education. For Gene Rode of Dickey-Marion Insurance Agency, it was
someone else who would guide him to his future career and business.
Not knowing exactly what he would like to do after graduation, Gene stated, “It was DuWayne Bott who would never take no for an
answer, suggesting more than once that I should come and work for him. I finally decided to commit to one year and have never
looked back.” He will forever be an important mentor in my life along with Rick Maddock, my high school teacher and principal
whose guidance inspired me to first, get my diploma.
As a fully licensed independent insurance agency serving North Dakota, Dickey-Marion Insurance Agency is dedicated to serving
their customers with the personal attention each one deserves. Although they have been in business since 1974, Gene began his career
in 1981 and purchased the business in 2003. When asked what attracted him to this industry Rode stated, “I like the idea of helping
others, and the insurance industry is a great place to do that. He adds, we know that everyone has different needs when it comes to
insurance and we pride ourselves on providing the best policy for each of our customers taking the time to personally find the right
policy that fits their lifestyle.” You can also find that same commitment from his employees, Roxanne Klug and Nancy Noot; as a
team, offering a combined 62 years of insurance experience.
Gene was chosen to serve as President of the Professional Insurance Agents Association of North Dakota in 2008 and recognized
as Agent of the Year in 2009. An award given to a representative who exhibits superior customer service knowledge, professionalism
and commitment to the insurance industry. This speaks loudly once again for his belief in not only offering his services, but building
relationships. His customers can feel confident they have found an agent who they can trust will do the best for them.
When asked what makes his business stand out, Rode states, “We pride ourselves on the service we provide to our customers; big city
coverage with small town service.” His success perhaps is due to his passion for the day-to-day contact with his customers and the
friendships he has made. Gene gives credit to DRN for their telecommunications services which allow him to stay in touch with his
clients. “DRN’s up-to-date phone system as well as their high speed internet service has allowed me to stay connected with our
customers,” replied Gene.
“Our biggest challenge today is educating consumers that cheaper isn’t always better,” Gene stated. “We’ve seen first-hand the results
of Mother Nature and reminds his customers that insurance is our business. We will always do our best to make sure your policy
will fit your needs and provide a local voice to answer any concerns.” n
