JAMAICAN WEDDINGS ARE
OH-SO-COOL BECAUSE OF AT
LEAST 5 GREAT THINGS:
Attitude, mon
There’s something in a Jamaican’s DNA that
relaxes them, and passes that lack of stress on
to its visitors. The national theme of Jamaica
seems to be “No problem, mon.” On the island,
if it happens it happens, let’s move on. There’s
no pressure in Jamaicans to move frantically or
faster. There’s no volcanos about to explode,
and even the taxi drivers will get you to the
beach without stress. This totally un-stressed
attitude makes for a joyous creative spirit all
over the island, and manifests in the food, the
music, and the confidence of its people. The
attitude is good, mon. Come, relax, and enjoy
another glass of rum
Couples often spend thousands of dollars
planning the “perfect” wedding, forgetting what
marriage truly represents in the process. With
destination weddings, you don’t have to break
the bank to celebrate your love. When it comes to
the details, a professional wedding specialist will
take care of everything from A to Z. Destination
Weddings are not only different than traditional
weddings, but are also very cost effective! That’s
why this industry that we lead in Canada has
grown by over 500% in less than 10 years.
Blue Skies
Jamaica’s weather is consistently as Visitor
Friendly as its people! It’s a tropical island, just
above the equator, and the peak time of year to
visit is probably between December and April,
when the rest of the world is still wearing
goulashes. The average temperature is just
lovely most of the year, however, between 80
and 90 F. It can get a bit humid, but that’s why
you dress for the beach, and plan to get wet!
There are many popular spots for destination weddings – one
that strikes gold all the time with Canadians is Jamaica.
Imagine a wedding on a beautiful beach, the bride’s dress
glowing white in the light of the sunset, while Steel drums
pound out the Wedding March, or “I can see clearly now, the
rain is gone.” The first toast of the ceremony is with a fruity
Jamaican Rum Punch. This is paradise in the Caribbean Sea,
this is warm and inviting Jamaica.

Great Venues
She wants it beautiful. He wants it perfect.
Consider booking your wedding at the Rose
Hall Great House, a plantation house with the
most beautiful grand stair case a bride can
descend down, and an Aqueduct where an
1839 waterwheel makes the perfect back drop
for those once in a life time wedding pictures.
Consider Gazebo Beach as the wedding spot
she has always dreamed of, or Ocean’s Edge
for crystal clear water elegance. Waterfall
weddings are also very romantic. Rose Hall
offers these too. Historic Mt. Zion Church may
be THE place to wed if your perfect ceremony
must be inside a vintage church building.
There are more than 50 resorts offering
unforgettable wedding venues on the Jamaican
island, as well, all of which you can learn more
about by contacting Absolute Wedsite today!
If you can only find 5 reasons to wed and
honeymoon in Jamaica, you’re on the wrong
island. Don’t just imagine the obvious beach
scene. Think mountains, and old plantations,
and tropical forests, and bob sledding. This is
just a very partial list. You will certainly find
more reasons to wed in Jamaica before the
honeymoon is over. Oh wait, you haven’t even
started that yet – this was just the wedding
celebration!
Many Activities
Jamaica isn’t just beaches and rum punch, it’s
also zip lines across the top of rain forests, and
bob sledding down Mystic Mountain. For the
naturalist the island is Hummingbird Garden
and Butterfly Attraction Garden. There’s also
river rafting in Montego Bay, and mangrove
trees and wild crocodiles on The Black River.
Green Grotto Caves at Discovery Bay is also a
thrilling adventure for explorers.
Marvelous Etceteras
Descriptions of this paradise can’t be
contained in 5 points. Music in Jamaica
is made for dancing. It’s steel drums and
Jonkonnu, Bruckins, Dinki Mini, Quadrille and
Mento, and of course Reggae. Jamaican food
is fusion, African, local and international, hip
and lounge, Columbus, and Agritourismo.
Island flavors range from Rum to Soul, to Jerk
to sea food barbequed on converted steel
drums. The scenery is spectacular everywhere,
from sunrise on the beach, to sundown on a
mountain top.
No one knows Jamaica like we do. That’s why
we’re award winning for being one of the Top
50 sellers to Jamaica from North America. We
really pride ourselves in making your life, and
your destination wedding or honeymoon a

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR
WEDDING OFFICIANT?
Written by Rinette Emerson, ENDURING PROMISES INC.
THE question has been asked and answered, the dress purchased,
the venue, photographer and musicians booked but you have a sense
that something‘s missing. Oh yeah, you need someone to Officiate
your ceremony. But where to begin?
DREAM BRIDE
My wife and I recently purchased a car. Before
making our decision we spent several weeks
asking anyone we knew who had gone through
the same process if they had any advice or
recommendations. When all was said and done,
we purchased from a dealership recommended to
us by a friend. Bottom line, ask your friends about
their experiences. Would they recommend their
Officiant? If they would, that should be a great
place to start. There are several trusted thirdparty websites that offer third-party reviews/
testimonials, (i.e. Wedding Wire, EventSource,
The Knot, etc.) so check them out.
Once you have chosen to connect with an
Officiant or Officiate company, start by setting
up a no-obligation face-to-face meeting so that
you can discuss your vision for your ceremony.
If a deposit is required before a meeting can be
arranged with the Officiant, or if you have no say
in your choice of Officiants, I would question the
wisdom of moving forward and would suggest
that you look elsewhere. A face-to-face meeting
will give you an opportunity to see if the Officiant
is willing to invest the time to get to know a
little about you, your personalities, hobbies, and
family dynamics. In other words, some idea of
who you are, your story and an good idea of your
expectations for your ceremony.
During the meeting you should be able to gage
the reason why s/he officiates weddings. Does
the Officiant have a passion for your wedding
celebration or do you get the sense that yours is
just “another wedding?”
Many people are involved in a wedding
celebration. Some of the more visible
participants include the wedding planner,
event coordinator, musicians, florists, waiters,
photographers, videographers and of course
the Officiant. In order to deliver a stress-free
ceremony all of these professionals must work
together to insure that the Bride and Groom fully
enjoy one of the most important and intimate
celebrations of their lives. This is where third
party endorsement will again prove beneficial.
What do other wedding professionals say about
the Officiant you are considering to do your
wedding? Is the Officiant easy to work with or is
s/he more concerned with photo-bombing every
shot of the Bride and Groom? Is s/he a team
player?
couple that “I see where you want to go, but I
think we need to make this slight adjustment.”
This can only happen if the Officiant has taken
the time to get to know the couple. But when
this special bond is established, the Officiant will
feel comfortable suggesting different ideas and
the couple will trust the Officiant and his/her
recommendations.
Other factors such a licensing, fees, availability,
etc. are always considerations in the decision
making process, but if the Officiate clearly
understands you and your vision of your
ceremony and you feel comfortable with him/her,
book ‘em, s/he won’t be available long!
In order to help a couple create a fully personal,
unique and memorable wedding ceremony, an
Officiant must establish a unique bond with the
Bride and Groom. S/he should be flexible and
supportive of the couple’s desires yet confident

Know before you go Getting the right limo often depends on the type of occasion, number
of people, number of hours you’ll need and how far you’re going. Most
companies will need to know if this is for a wedding, concert, prom,
birthday party or maybe an anniversary - and they often specialize in
certain events to deliver the best possible experience. The more details
you can provide, the better the value and service you’ll receive. Focus on value: the best service at the best price Not all limousine services are equal. Price should not be the only factor
in your search. Much like renting a hotel, different price points often
mean different service levels. It is good to have a budget determined

PERSONALIZED WEDDING
FAVOURS – WORLD CLASS
PORTRAIT BOOTHS
Bomboniere or wedding favours are rich in
tradition and actually date back to the ancient
Egyptians. The bride would thank each guest
for coming by cutting a piece of her veil and
inclosing sugar coated almonds for them to take
home. This is a tradition that has been fading
away and many are making charitable donations
or simply not doing favours at all. Why not make
a donation to the charity that means the most
to you while also sending your guests home
knowing you’ve done so along with a keepsake
that is sure to mean something to them? It can
also act as the Thank You card, thus saving you
on the cost of Thank You cards themselves along
with the ever rising cost of postage.
Written by BiancoNero.ca Photo/Video/Portrait Booths
Portrait Booths, not to be confused with photo
booths are professional portraits of each guest
who have made the special effort to attend
your wedding and share that momentous day
with you. Taken by an actual photographer with
professional equipment and glamour lighting.
Each family, couple and guest will often have
their portrait taken during the receiving line or
cocktail hour and those that come late or missed
it will be prompted by the DJ or MC with an
announcement during dinner. These portraits
are printed out on the spot and the very last one

should be complete well before dinner is done.
The portraits are inserted into a double sided
frame that hold a Thank You card created with
a portrait from the engagement shoot and may
include the names, date, the words Thank You
and any message including a possible charitable
donation you may have made. The message can
actually include anything you would like to say
to your guests. They can be handed out beside
the money box or gift table to ensure that one
favour per family is given out. Instructions on

unique to your wedding is inserted within the
frame also. This allows them to also enlarge or
duplicate their portrait if they would like to do
so. The portrait is then taken and inserted on
the other side of the frame and you have your
wedding favour and Thank You card all in one
elegant and affordable keepsake.
Save big money, but still make a big BiancoNero
impression!
The ultimate compliment is when you visit your
guests in their homes, and they point out the
portrait taken at your wedding is still being
displayed. They often will display them for years
after your wedding rather then thrown away,
consumed or broken as regrettably is the case
with most traditional wedding favours. You also
can’t get a more personalized gift then a portrait
of them all dressed up and together taken on
your big day.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT
FLORAL DESIGNER FOR
YOUR WEDDING DAY
Lasting Impression:
After leaving your floral designer you should have a feeling. If it’s the right one, you will
feel confident that the designer sees your vision. They will get you excited and be excited
themselves to be able to bring to life your dream day. Flowers add so much beauty to the wedding day. Whether it is the bridal bouquet,
decorations or reception décor, they leave a lasting impression on you and your
guests. This is what stands out throughout the whole evening and will create the ambiance
for the night. Whether you choose small and simple arrangements or tall, extravagant
ones, they both achieve the bride and grooms vision for their day. Only your floral designer

that, does your designer work with you to suggest ideas? Guide you on the right flowers and how to make your day exquisite with simple things to add
like candle light or rose petals. Once you find the right designer, you will feel confident that your vision is clear and will be perfect on your day.
To ensure that you get exactly what you want you, being prepared before going to a floral appointment will help the process and define the
conversation.
Here are a few tips to help you get started:
Budget:
Flowers:
Knowing how much you want to spend on flowers
and decor will help guide your designer on what
flowers and options will fit into your budget. Be
sure you understand how many centrepieces you
will need, for instance, as this will factor in the
overall budget. Knowing that there are different
prices for different styles will also play a factor.
Being flexible with how much you have versus
what you want is very important. This is where
your designer can help. Staying within your vision
with a comfortable budget is what a great designer
does best!
Knowing flowers and flower types is not
necessary but it helps! If you are open to using
any flowers that will give you the same look and
feel to bring your designs together, than you can
leave the trust into the florists’ hands to do what
they do best. However, choosing specific flowers
may be costly or may not be available on your
wedding day, so that will be a factor in your
overall budget. Theme:
Having an idea of what colours or ideas
you would like for your day will also help
frame the conversation with your designer. Whether
a rustic theme or simple and elegant, the more
ideas you have, the better. Your designer needs to
have a clear picture of your vision. Pictures or an
idea board are a great help too!
44
Timing:
When should you go see your designer? Once
you have the hall and date and you have
decided on the budget and theme, go see your
Floral Designer. Most florists have a minimum
of 3 months prior but like many Halls, couples
usually book a year in advance to save the date
and start paying for their dream day. The sooner
the better! When you have found that perfect
designer ...book them immediately! Don’t leave
this part up to chance!
So you’ve decided on your theme and
budget and you have received some floral
quotes and met with different designers,
how do you decide?
Make sure you are
comparing Flowers to
Flowers:
The type of flowers you choose definitely
impacts the overall cost of flowers. In addition,
compare the amount of flowers and the quality
of the designs. Many Floral companies charge
you for each stem of flower included. Whether
the bouquet or centerpiece looks full or what
you envision, they will only add what has been
paid for or they may add more filler like greens or
a cheaper flowers to make the centerpiece look
fuller as it is more cost effective. So while one
quote might be less expensive than another, the
finished product may not be exactly what you
are looking for. 45

GET ME TO THE ALTAR.
MAKE UP TIPS FOR YOUR
SPECIAL DAY
Written by Saint Cosmetics
For the everyday makeup minimalist a simple beauty approach is your best bet to avoid wedding photo regret down the road. Think perfected skin,
light sculpting and pretty lashes! Your goal is to show off your best features, not to prove how well you can apply your makeup. The key is to look like a
BETTER you!
It doesn’t matter how big your eyes are or how glossy your lips look if your skin looks blotchy or oily you won’t look your best on your wedding day. Your
first priority should be flawless skin! Make sure to follow the routine below before moving on to your eyes cheeks and lips. The two bridal looks below
were created by Saint Cosmetics make up artist Todd Stewart using the all NATURAL Canadian make up line Saint Cosmetics which not only covers to
perfection but offers long lasting performance.
Get her to the altar
Start off by applying the primer “Bare your soul”, then the liquid
foundation - “Angel wings” and finally the blush to the face for
a smooth and flawless skin. ”Get me to the altar” blush by Saint
Cosmetics imitates your natural flush. Apply on the apples of your
cheeks for a softer look. Finish with “On cloud 9” bronzer on the
surfaces that the sun kisses, like your forehead, the bridge of your nose
and your cheeks. This will keep your skin glowing and radiant long
after the garter has been removed.
Angel eyes with a stroke of luck
Enhance your eye colour by coordinating a complimentary smokey eye
using “Angel Eyes” as highlighter, “Stroke of Luck” and “Devil in a blue
dress” on the crease and eye lid.
Made in heaven
Line your waterline with “ Made in heaven” white eyeliner and use
black liquid eyeliner “Diabolical” to compliment your upper lash line.
Finally apply “Lucky Stiff” mascara. Style your
lashes to reflect the overall mood of your make up no matter what
you are trying to portray - romantic, flirty, and natural or bold and
dramatic?
Kiss & tell
Lipstick is the jewel on the crown. Hot lipstick colors are dark reds like
“Kiss & tell” and “Cardinal sin red” or muted pinks like “City of angels”.
Don’t forget to fill in the whole lip with “Rendez-vous” lip liner so it
lasts through the entire evening. Apply the lipgloss before the lipstick
to achieve a softer sultrier finish.

PREPARING FOR YOUR
WEDDING DAY & HAPPILY
EVER AFTER MOMENTS
The Cake
The wedding cake is another essential recipe for your wedding. The
cake holds a place of honour and symbolizes happiness, a shared life
together and good fortune. You should plan to secure a baker no more
than 3 to 4 months prior to your wedding date. You will need to inform
the baker on your choice of flavour, filling, design, colours and the
number of guests to be fed. Speciality cakes can be expensive because
they are labour-intensive. You should speak to the baker if you need
them to work with your budget. It is also recommended to take pictures
with you when meeting with the baker so they get an idea of what
design you are looking for.

Your wedding day is one of the most important days in your life—probably one of the most memorable
moments in your lifetime. There are a lot of factors that influence the bride and groom’s decisions
when it comes to their special day, whether it’s budgeting, hiring someone to coordinate the event or
picking the right wedding cake. While the process can sometimes feel like going on a roller coaster for
the first time and experiencing the adrenaline rush, creating a pleasing and seamless experience for all
the guests is not always a walk in the park. Below are some helpful tips to alleviate the stress associated
Chocolate Fountains
with your big day.
A rich centerpiece to consider adding to your sweet table is a chocolate
fountain complemented with a variety of fresh fruits and other dipping
items. This is normally a big hit at events. Some considerations to discuss
concerning the chocolate fountain are the types of fresh dipping items the
fountain comes with, set-up and tear down arrangements, the number of
Event Coordination
staff attendants and the amount of chocolate required.
Weddings can be a lot of fun to plan with an event professional. Having
the right tools and tips ahead of time will go a long way when taking
the dive into the overwhelming but very rewarding process of wedding
planning. It is always recommended to have an experienced event
planner to help you with your wedding as they normally have a wealth
of resources at their fingertips. Although weddings can be expensive,
just like with any other special event, it is important to set a budget and
adhere to it. Closer to the event date, you might find yourself wanting to
add other things that might not fit the budget. It is wise to create a “wish
list” beforehand so you can be flexible and prioritize on the big-spend
“must-haves” but go lower on other items that might not be as important.
Catering
Some couples like to choose a reception location based on their
experience and contacts. A good venue complements your budget and
style and will provide catering options. Even if your wedding is small, you
want this day to be free of worry and you should consider enlisting the
services of a professional caterer who can take care of all of the details
both before and on the day of your event. If you are going with an offsite caterer, it is recommended that you book them at least 6 months in
advance to make sure you secure the date. They can help you decide on
a delectable menu, whether to go buffet or sit-down, and what features
to go with like carving and food stations. A great caterer will be aware of
new trends and will provide options that incorporate the unique cultural
mix that represents you and your guests.

ENTERTAINMENT
AT YOUR EVENT
Written by Redline DJ
Whether you’re planning a wedding reception or an anniversary celebration, a business seminar or a fund raising
event, entertainment is a definite must to make the party a success. One of the most popular party entertainers
today is the hired entertainment DJ. DJs have become the go to entertainers for parties and social events for a
number of reasons. First, and foremost, they are typically less expensive than a live band. Secondly, and equally
as important, a DJ is often much more flexible than a live entertainer, and can cater to a wider variety of tastes.
However, not all DJs are created equal, and there are some important questions you need to ask when hiring a DJ
for your next event. But never fear, the following tips will make hiring a DJ the easiest part of your party plans
DREAM BRIDE
Match the Entertainment DJ to the Event
Many DJ services specialize in certain types
of social events. Some are strictly wedding
DJs, while others might concentrate on
corporate events or even children’s parties.
Each specialty requires a unique set of
skills. What works for a wedding may not
necessarily be suitable for a fund raiser.
When considering a professional DJ service,
look for one that has experience with the
type of event you are planning
Check Out Your DJ’s Website
It is unlikely that the DJ you hire will have
an office or a shop that you can visit, so it
can sometimes be difficult to judge their
level of professionalism. However, most
professional DJ services will at least have
a website that you can visit. A poorly
designed website, that offers very little
specific information, may be an indication
that the service you are considering isn’t up
to the job. When considering a professional
DJ service, let the style and content of
their website be your guide and use that to
narrow the field of prospective entertainers.
Get Recommendations and Referrals
A good DJ service should be able
to provide you with customer
endorsements and referrals from their
former clients. These recommendations
are the professional entertainer’s
resume, and if the DJ you are considering
can not supply you with satisfactory
customer endorsements it might be wise
to interview another service.
Demos and Play-Lists
Interviews and websites can only give
you part of the picture, and the DJ
service you are considering should be
able to provide you with samples of
their work. A good professional DJ will
have a selection of demos, recorded at
previous events, which you can listen to
to get a feel for their performance. These
demos will not only let you better judge
their mixing skills, but will give a good
indication of their ability to interact with
party guests.
Any good DJ should also be able to
provide a comprehensive listing of
songs and genres for you to choose from
for your event. You want to choose the
service that offers a full range of musical
choices, and that is able to fill any
specific musical requests that you may
have.
Cost
You actually do get what you pay
for. Hiring a DJ may be significantly
cheaper than booking a live band, but
it still requires a financial investment.
Remember, the quality of equipment
and performance will be reflected in
the cost of the DJ. Cheap may save you
money, but it may also result in a poor
performance and a party embarrassment.
Whether you are planning a wedding
reception or a political fund raiser, hiring
a professional DJ may be the answer to
your entertainment needs. Take your
time, follow the few simple tips we’ve
outlined here, and you’ll find that sorting
out the entertainment portion of your
event may be the easiest part of the
planning process.
Hire a Professional
This may seem obvious, but it bears
repeating. There is more to being a DJ
than simply having “two turntables
and a microphone”, and while many
amateur DJs may have ads in the
local paper or on Craig’s List they
can not always offer the level of
professionalism you need to make
your event a success. Check the yellow
pages and online business directories
for professional DJ services, and look
for a DJ with a minimum of three years
experience

DREAM BRIDE
We met at a Christmas party and started dating
soon after. We felt very lucky that we met the
right person at the right time. We make each
other happier than ever, and we understand
each other deeply.
When we started to plan for our wedding,
Rob was actually studying in the US. The long
distance made it difficult for Rob to be fully
involved in the wedding planning, but he still
did a good job listening to me and sharing
ideas with me. He also took lots of ownership
of things that can be done on-line or remotely,
such as building our RSVP website and the gift
registration site, as well as applying for the
marriage license. Those tasks seemed small
individually, but it made a big difference to have
them all taken care of by someone you trust.
Although Rob was not here physically, I knew
he was always there for me and I got his best
support. I think that’s the most important thing during the wedding planning process, the groom
and the bride don’t have to contribute equally,
but the one that contributed less should make

the other one know that they care about this life
time event just as much, and are willing to make
the best effort they can to help.
Although Rob helped a lot, I still had to take
charge of many plannings myself. Photographers
and videographers are the most important
venders to me. I feel no matter how beautiful
your venue is or how fancy your cake is, what
will be left in your memory are the moment
you say I do, the first dance, and the laughters
and tears on you, your family and friends’ faces.
Those are the things good photographers and
videographers capture. Plus, they also take
real good pictures of your venue, cake and the
decorations!
I did a thorough research on photo/
videographers and AGI stood out from the other
studios. I loved their works and found their style
exactly the kind I wanted. After the discovery
meeting I found that they also do wedding
planning and decorations, and I got along really
well with the partners. So I relied on their
help for most of my wedding services. It was
a great experience with John, Vincent, Jessica
and Helen. They are not only very experienced
and talented, but also willing to listen to all
my concerns and help me patiently. They made
me feel comfortable and secure. That is so
important especially for the bride to keep happy
and calm before the wedding.
Our wedding happened in the early summer on
a beautiful day. Everything went just as planned,
and we had a great time. We also had a great
MC for our reception which was such a key to a
successful reception.
At the end, I’m not going to lie - Wedding
planning takes a lot of efforts, and the wedding
day is exhausting for the groom and the bride.
But we received so much love, bless and support
during this experience, which makes it all worth
it. We enjoyed every single moment of our
wedding day. It is truly one of the most amazing
memories we will cherish forever. Venue: Windsor Arms Hotel

Planning a fairy tale wedding at Casa Loma

Next, we chose an Audiovisual company, BB

their own AV company called Event Media

Above the reception information table, where
guests received information about their

Speaking of the reception table, we used little
clay rose pillars as the cardholder for the
placement cards. It is amazing how many little
details one has to think of when planning a
wedding. Thankfully, Nilusha, our coordinator
at Casa Loma helped us think of these small
but important details. I would recommend to
any bride who is dreaming of a big wedding
to hire a coordinator so these details are not

company, Just Temptations, did a wonderful
job of matching the colours of the roses on the
cupcake cake with our flower arrangements.
They perfectly complimented each other.
I chose a cupcake cake as the top tier of
cupcakes were all gluten free. Also, guests

feel like eating it then, after the big 5 course
meal. Casa Loma was very good about all of
the catering modifications we made. At our
wedding of 160 guests we had 24 allergies.
Some of them were life threatening. On top
of that, we had two different meal choices.
My husband’s family is of Indian background
and my background is Italian and Irish. We
offered our guests a choice of Indian and
Italian cuisine and provided Liberty Grand,
the company catering our wedding, with the
numbers ahead of time. We ordered the Indian
food from The Host in Yorkville and had them
bring in the food to Casa Loma on the day of
the wedding. Casa Loma was wonderful in
cooperating with all of this.
One cannot talk about planning a wedding
without discussing the dresses! I got my gown
and veil at Kleinfelds. It was a Maggie Sottero
gown and the first dress I tried on. I just knew
it was the right dress for me and I am so
happy with it. It was also reasonably priced,
compared to some of the other dresses in the
store. The sales associate was very good at
looking at the styles of dresses I wanted and
my budget. My girls got their dresses at Riche
Coture. They were Bill Levkoff and I loved the
soft coral colour for the summer. The dress
also worked because they all have different
body types and the dress flattered each of
them. I also hired an extremely professional
make-up artist who has worked on shows such
as Orange is the New Black. Her name Is Aniya
and she works through the Plutino Group. You
need to contact her agent to book her. I did a
trial makeup session ahead of time to ensure I
liked it for the big day. Donna Dolphy Hair did
my beautiful braid.
Finally, to make sure everything I picked
out looked perfect in every way I hired a
great photographer Mario, from BiancoNero
Photography. He helped to make every
moment of our wedding look spectacular.
Between him and Marianna, I had thousands
of photos to choose from for my customized
wedding album, which includes 80 edited
photos. The best part of this studio is they
offered a portrait booth for the guests, and
each guest got to take a glamor portrait of
themselves home with a thank-you from
us! Our thank-yous were taken care of in a
flash, so to speak as they printed and framed
them on the spot! All in all I had a lot of fun
planning my wedding, even though it was a
lot of work. I noticed a lot of times I made
decisions based on my gut feeling and in my
case, it worked. I never let people sway me
if they did not like something. Remember
brides: it is your big day so the important
thing is that you like it! Whether you’re
planning an extravagant celebration or an
intimate cozy wedding, make sure you love

Natalie Hartman first met Jonathan Lanzolla in
2008 on New Year’s Eve. They were introduced
by mutual friends after a night out on the town,
but didn’t start dating until 2009. Jonathan knew
at first glance that he would spend the rest of his
life with her. During a trip to Mexico, Jonathan
announced to his friends that when he got home
he would try to pursue Natalie to be his girlfriend.
Fast forward 7 years later, and Jonathan proposed
to Natalie while on a dinner cruise around the
Toronto Harbor.
The wedding planning process began right after
the proposal. Setting a budget was critical as
this laid out the options that were available to
us financially. The three top properties, were
1) picking a date 2) selecting the ceremony/
reception locations and 3) picking the right
photographer to capture our special day.
The date we choice was September 6th 2015, Our
Ceremony was held at Aurora Trinity Church and
our reception was held at The Terrace Banquet
Centre. As a couple we were extremely pleased
and pleasantly surprised by the attention to
detail provided by both the church and the staff
at the Terrance Banquet Centre. The service at the
church was personalized by Reverend Andy and
the food at the Terrace was outstanding. Starting
with the antipasto bar and finishing off with
the late night sweet table and everything else
in between. The staff at the Terrance went over
and above to ensure that our expectations were
exceeded and all the guest’s needs were catered
too.
Our wedding cake was made by our dear friend
Samantha Macrito of TopTier Cake Co. The 3
Tier Chocolate and Lemon cake decorated in
elegant fondant and filled with buttercream, was
absolutely delicious! It was the perfect dessert
to end the night off. Our guests raved about the
chocolate flavor in the cake, as it was a family
made recipe passed down.
The Second key point, Finding the perfect
photographer to capture one of the most
memorable and magical days of our lives.
After researching photographers in the
area and speaking with brides-to-be and
newlywed couples, we knew that having the
right photographer meant everything, and we
could not be any happier to have found M&L
Fotographics. We had the pleasure of working
with Mike & Liz also for our engagement photo
shoot. After our E- session we could not wait to
get back out there in front of the camera lens to
have some more fun with M&L Fotographics! As
a couple getting married it was important to us
to have a photographer who had a passion and
interest in capturing unique photos, and that
is exactly what Mike & Liz did for us. They are
patient, organized, creative and willing to get that
perfect picture for their clients. Their number
one goal was to make sure that our needs where
met for the day, and that is exactly what they did.
Mike’s flare for original photos, and capturing
each precious moment is what attracted us the
most to his work, and after our big day, M&L
Fotographics were also able to give us a preview
of our wedding photos very soon after the big
day, we were not left waiting to see all of our
memories again, which really impressed us! We
are so happy that we chose M&L Fotographics to
capture the best day of our lives. Looking back
on these photos, the shots taken bring us back to
each and every perfect moment of this day.
Third, we had to find a decorator to expedite
our vision, and that is exactly what Enzo Mercuri
of Enzo Mercuri Designs did. From the crystal
chandelier to the beautiful entwined fabric
backdrop, Enzo was able to make our fairy tale
dream come true and personalize it to our liking.
Last but not least, finding the perfect wedding
dress! After searching around at numerous
wedding dress stores in Woodbridge and Toronto,
Natalie finally found the dress of her dreams at
The Gown in Newmarket. With finishing touches
to make the final look complete, Natalie’s
Hair was done by Pasacal Saab from Hair Blvd
in Newmarket and her makeup was done by
Gabriella Dicesare from Go Glam hair & makeup.
On the day of the wedding, the bride was filled
with emotions and the excitement of having
all of her friends and family fly in from around
the world in order to celebrate the nuptials.
Everything throughout the course of the day
was more than the couple could have hoped
for. The floral arrangements, centerpieces,
food, photographer and DJ surpassed all their
expectations, and guests still talk about how
beautiful the entire day was. It was a night that
nobody wanted to end.

1. Is there a cake cutting fee?
To avoid any misunderstandings about the cake cutting service this is a great
question to ask the venue to eliminate unexpected costs that will affect your
overall budget. There are some venues that will charge an average of $2.50
per person just for this service.
2. Do you charge gratuities or service charges?
These fees can range in percentage from 15%-18% of the overall subtotal
of the bill plus you pay HST (13%) on top of this amount. Check the contract
details of what fees are additional above the food and beverage costs.
3. What is included with the cost per person?
This question pertains to what exactly the hall provides and make sure all the
items are included in the contract with as much description as possible. This
may include items such as table linens, napkins, china, cutlery, glassware,
staging, tables, chairs, décor, sound, lighting and audio visual.
4. What types of bar services do you offer?
There are several options to choose from when selecting your bar service.
Some venues will state a 5 hour bar service but the bar is normally closed
throughout the dinner since there is wine service provided but this is not
convenient for those guests who may not drink wine. Another option is cash
bar service which means the guests pay for their own drinks. Some couples
will do a charge by consumption option but there is no way to accurately
gage the dollar value for budget purposes and at times this will be more
expensive than choosing an open bar option. The final option is an open bar
service which the couple is charged a flat fee per person and it’s open from
time of arrival till 1:00 a.m. This service is unlimited and it includes service
throughout the dinner as well.
5. Can you do the ceremony onsite?
If the ceremony can be conducted onsite this is a great convenience for
your guests to contain both ceremony and reception at the same location
and close proximity of time. It’s suggested that the ceremony time can be
at 4:00 p.m. and the arrival time can be set-up for 5:00 p.m. The caterer can
serve the hors d’oeuvres at 5:00 p.m. and the bar is open at the same time
so guests are happy and the logistics flow better in this scenario. Inquire if
there are additional fees for this and what logistics are involved.

6. What is the payment schedule?
There are some venues that take a dollar value or others take a percentage
of the estimated food and beverage invoice and they provide a timeline to
disclose that the full amount is due one to two weeks prior to the wedding
day. There are some venues that will receive the balance owing following
the reception as they understand that some of the gifts received will assist
in paying the final invoice.
STYLE | IMPECCABLE SERVICE | LUXURY
7. What time do we have access to the room?
3045 Southcreek, Mississauga
renaissancebythecreek.com
905.238.9666
There are some venues that will turn-over the dining room where your
reception is being held two to three times within the same day. Make sure
the contract discloses the time period from and to in order to avoid logistical
mistakes when booking your vendors. Do not assume the hall is available
when you or your vendors want them to be. If any of the vendors require
additional time for set-up or dismantle outside of the specified range you
booked; inquire about availability and if there are additional costs for this
request.
8. Is there a private bridal suite?
Some venues offer a simple room with four walls as a sufficient bridal suite.
Others have a large spacious well-appointed room with a private washroom,
make-up vanity and secured safe for their personal items and gifts.
9. Are there any additional fees such as patch in fee
for sound system and or using outside supplier fees?
Always ask about hidden fees when inquiring about pricing. Some of these
fees are SOCAN fees, patching fees for sound system or vendor fees if you’re
not using the venues in-house recommended vendors. These costs can
range from $750.00 to $1000.00 alone and this will cause your budget to
be off track if not recognized at the beginning of planning.
10. What is your cancellation policy?
No one wants to think about having to cancel their wedding for whatever
reason but do ask the question just-in case this may happen. Read the fine
print and how the policy works in regards to deposits and any final amounts
owing. Some venues request that all deposits are non-refundable, others
will still request for additional money as a percentage of the total contract
value as a penalty for the cancellation.

Uses/Usages : Broad Spectrum SPF30. Helps prevent sunburn. Retains sun protection for 80 minutes of activity in the water
or sweating. Protection à large spectre avec FPS 30. Aide à prévenir les coups de soleil. Retient la protection solaire après 80 minutes
d’activité dans l’eau ou de transpiration.

Directions/Mode d’emploi : Spray liberally/generously and spread evenly by hand 15 minutes before sun exposure. Hold
container 4 to 6 inches from the skin to apply; do not spray directly onto face. Spray on hands then apply to face. Reapply at
least every 2 hours. Reapply after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating; and reapply immediately after towel drying. Do not
apply in windy conditions; use in a well-ventilated area; and avoid inhaling or exposing others to spray. For use on children less
than 6 months of age, consult a health care practitioner. Sun Protection Measures: Spending time in the sun increases your
risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a Broad Spectrum SPF value of 15
or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; and wear
long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats, and sunglasses.

THE RIGHT VENUE
FOR A WEDDING
Written by Studiochris
DREAM BRIDE
#1 More time for photography, less
time spend in traffic . Ex: churchpark-venue, versus, church-venue
#2 Most of the times you have
the photography location just for
yourself.
Usually the parks are crowded with
people in the summer. On top of
that you may find yourself waiting
your turn to access some nice spot,
…because you are not the only Bride
in the park at the same time!
#3 In most cases you don’t have
to pay extra to have your wedding
pictures done on the venue
property.
Some of the parks will charge
you a fee for taking your wedding
picture on their property. You will
be scheduled when to come and
when to leave the premises, and
is not cheep. If you missed your
schedule because of traffic, you got
a problem…. especially if another
bride is on the schedule and in the
park. They might refuse to let you
in!
Now we return to the well chosen
Venue example. To cut the story
short, we arrived a little late to
the venue and we had to close our
photo shooting session because of
the weather. Right away we realized
that we have just a few of the bride
and groom pictures. We’ve done the
bridal party pictures, groomsmen
and bridesmaids shots, the family
pictures, but we had not enough
pictures with the bride and groom
alone. Unfortunately it was not
much that we could do at that point.
The opportunity came late in the
night just before the First Dance.
The alleys were dry and we were
able to steal the Bride and the
Groom from their schedule. We had
about 10 to 15 minutes to do some
of the extra shots we needed. One
minute walk outside the hall and we
had a beautiful stone wall , stairs
and a very nice entrance. You can
see the results!
Without these elements, without
having them so close to us we could
not have these pictures done in so
little time. We finished the pictures
in about 12 minutes and the bride
and groom were back on schedule.

Not many times I got the chance to talk with my brides about the importance of the Venue for wedding photography, …before it’s
booked. Last Saturday, July 26th 2015 being the wedding photographer I experience another time the fortune of a well chosen
venue.
But first, let’s talk about some of the advantages a venue brings, when it comes with the much needed elements for a perfect
wedding photography day.

FASHION VS. STYLE:
KNOW THE
DIFFERENCE
Written by Surmesur
Most men get confused, intimidated, and overwhelmed when it comes to the subject of dressing (and I don’t mean the kind you put on your salad).
When a man wants to dress better, where does he turn? Unfortunately, most men look to current fashion trends for the answers. The problem with trying
to copy what you see in GQ or style blogs is that it sets unrealistic expectations and it leads to men looking and feeling uncomfortable in their clothes.
Remember; images in advertisements are highly polished, and the models are pinned and photo shopped. Before you fill your wardrobe with this
season’s fleeting fads, let’s consider a more personalized approach…
Recast vs. Contrast
Stale vs. Stealth

it comes to leveraging your contrast:

The Flusserian approach would have you change your question from “what width of lapel are men wearing right now?” to “which width of lapel is right

with what you wear.
Your individual figure must be taken into consideration.
Here are some basic guidelines:
• Lapels should be half the distance from the base of
the neck to the outside shoulder. Anything narrower or
wider is considered fashion. Coat length should cover
the seat. Wearing trousers as close to one’s natural
waist as possible elongates the leg line, which makes a
man look taller and slimmer.
• A man with very short legs in comparison to his torso
will benefit from a slightly shorter coat (giving the
illusion of a longer leg line). A very tall and thin man
will want to use every excuse he can to break up a
streamlined look with horizontal lines (balancing the
length with some visual width).
• Someone who still wears a short coat with narrow
lapels and low-rise trousers they purchased five years
ago, when it was in fashion, will look dated against
current fashion.
It’s easy to see how chasing fashion can be a lose/
lose game for the consumer; that’s how the industry
makes money. The way to break the cycle is by wearing
clothes that flatter your individual proportions, whether
they’re in fashion or not. If well-made and cared for,
these garments will serve you well for decades.

How do I ensure that the day runs smoothly? While looking at venues in Niagara, I immediately

& our party afterwards. I had never thought about getting married at a golf course, but my friend was
adamant that we visited the venue before making our decision. 112
