2012 Program
Thursday, June 21, 2012 Make Music New York returns with over 1,000 free concerts on the first day of summer! On Thursday, June 21, from 9 in the morning until 10 at night, musicians of all ages and musical persuasions will perform in over 400 public spaces throughout the five boroughs, including skate parks, church gardens, sidewalks, playgrounds, closed-off streets, the middle of the Central Park Lake, and the middle of Times Square. From established global artists to teenage garage bands, music is played by anyone who wants to take part — and enjoyed by everyone who wants to listen. Just like the city itself, the range of offerings is spectacular. From 64 toy pianos to 300 guitars, from to the West Point Band, from hip hop block parties to Carnatic marathons, there is something for every listener. But don’t just listen — join the festival and make music yourself! Bring your instrument to a event, sing in a gospel parade, join an impromptu chorus in Times Square, or learn an ancient Puerto Rican dance. Use this program as your guide, check makemusicny.org for late-breaking updates . . . or just take to the streets and follow your ears! event event Page 2 Bronx Borough Hall Mosholu 851 Grand Concourse 285 E 205th St 1:30 Music Crossing Borders music to teach & inspire underprivileged kids Crotona Park Bandshell 3:15 – 7:15 Manny’s Boogaloo Crew R&B-laced Latin funk 839 Hunts Point Ave 1:00 Sukari Music 3:00 Osai 4:45 Swaybogie 5:00 B-Gerzey 5:30 Shy Hips 6:00 Bill Bojangles with Ayaaso Band roots, reggae 7:00 Sassy 7:30 Karimakk Holloway Jacobi Medical Center 1400 Pelham Pkwy S Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concert Series: 6:00 Slavic Soul Party!
