18TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR C
COMMENTARY ON READINGS
First Reading: This Reading speaks about the worthlessness of
worldly acquisitions which upon our death someone else comes
along to misuse or to waste all that was painfully acquired.
.(Ecclesiastes 1:2. 2:21-23)
RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Ps 90)
“ If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts..’’
You turn man back to dust,
saying, “Return, O children of men.”
For a thousand years in your sight
are as yesterday, now that it is past,
or as a watch of the night. Res
You make an end of them in their sleep;
the next morning they are like the changing grass,
Which at dawn springs up anew,
but by evening wilts and fades. Res
Teach us to number our days aright,
that we may gain wisdom of heart.
Return, O LORD! How long?
Have pity on your servants! Res
Fill us at daybreak with your kindness,
that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days.
And may the gracious care of the LORD our God be ours;
prosper the work of our hands for us!
Prosper the work of our hands!. Res
Second Reading : Paul urges us to avoid all that is sinful so as to
grow in the image of God which is Christ; through whom there are
no distinctions between nations, cultures or states of life.
(Colossians 3:1-5, 9-11)
Gospel : Jesus sternly warns us against greed of any kind. He
teaches that a person's life is not made secure by the abundance of
his possessions in this world, but rather we should make ourselves
spiritually rich in the sight of God. (Luke 12:13-21)
