May 22 - Our Lady of the Woods Parish
May 22, 2016 The Most Holy Trinity Our Lady of the Woods Parish Orland Park, Illinois Page Two Dear Parishioners, In a scene from one of my favorite movies Tender Mercies one of the main characters says to her husband one day, “When I say my prayers at night I thank God for you and Sonny (her son) for you are God’s most tender mercies to me.” It is good for us to take time to recognize God’s tender mercies in our lives. It is good for us to recognize in this parish community the blessings we have been given through others. For fifteen years Deacon John Macarol, along with his wonderful wife Tere, has served this community and beyond for many years in a variety of ministries, including Marriage Preparation, The Harlan Mission Trips, Rebuild Together, Christ Renews His Parish, and so much more. Together they have organized the Valentine’s evening dinner and worked with our Religious Education. It is through them that our parish has been able to offer a number of wonderful pilgrimages. This doesn’t take into account the specifically liturgical ministries that DJ has assisted in such as baptisms, deaconing at Mass, and breaking open the scriptures with his homilies. It is our prayer that he and Tere will continue to serve us well in the years to come. Yet for many in this parish, it is the blessings of relationship that we cherish. In my four years here at Our Lady of the Woods I have become reacquainted with Tere and John. They are not only co-workers – they are friends! I personally value John and Tere’s wisdom and experience. On May 20th John celebrated the 15th anniversary of his ordination. At the 11:00 AM Mass this weekend we celebrate this reality in liturgy and following the liturgy will have a reception to celebrate these fifteen years or service. John and Tere, when I say my prayers I thank God for you because you are among his “tender mercies” to me and to this parish. In Christ, Father Mike REV. MICHAEL G. FOLEY, PASTOR REV. My father is Cesar Augusto Henao and my mother is Marby Rivera. I also have two siblings. My older brother is Diego, who used to be a seminarian at Mundelein, and my little sister is Nicole Sofia. They all are currently living in Colombia. I am a seminarian from Saint Joseph College Seminary studying for the Archdiocese of Chicago. I am currently studying my second year of Philosophy at Loyola University. Previous to this, I went through the Casa Jesus program, which is a program designed to bring young Hispanic men who are interested in the priesthood to study for the archdiocese of Chicago. During my time at Casa Jesus, my main focuses were to learn English and to get to know more about the Catholic Church in Chicago. First, in order for me to learn the English language, I studied at UIC for a year in a program called Tutorium in Intensive English. During the same time I was studying at UIC, I was also assigned to go to a parish every weekend to be able to achieve my second goal. The parish I was assigned to was the Good Shepherd. After my time in Casa Jesus finished, I joined Saint Joseph Seminary, which is my second step on the process to become a priest. I took another year to study English when I first joined Saint Joseph Seminary, but this time I studied at De Paul University. Once that year was over, I learned enough English to be able to study philosophy at Loyola (or, at least, that’s what my teachers thought). As I mentioned before, I am now on my second year at Saint Joseph. I still have two more years left in Saint Joseph Seminary before, God willing, I move on to Mundelein Seminary which will be my last step to be able to become a priest. There I will study Theology for four years. This year I was assigned to come to Our Lady of the Woods parish to do my summer apostolate. I must admit that I feel a little nervous because this will be an experience I’ve never had before. I will try to do my best and serve you in the best way I can. I am looking forward to going to this parish and make this experience one of the greatest experiences I have had. I will also ask you for your prayers as my brother seminarians and I continue to discern our vocation to the priesthood. We will be praying for you as well.
