Memos APRIL, 2016 St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church Worth, St. MarkIllinois Evangelical Lutheran Church 708-448-6555 Worth, Illinois 708-488-6555 Pastor Jay Trygstad Pastor Jay Trygstad WORSHIP WITH US 8:00 A.M. Classic Grace (Traditional Worship) ~~~ 9:30 A.M. Prayer & Praise (Contemporary) ~~~ 10:45 A.M. Joyful Noise (Contemporary) ~~~~~~ 9:30 A.M. Sunday School (Koetz Hall) & Adult Bible Study Fellowship Hall Deadline for May Memos is the last week of April. Please email or drop off articles by that date . Thank you. I found this reading on faith in the Trinity School of Ministry Lenten devotions. It was written by John Bryant and based on the story of the woman with the flow of blood found in Mark 5:21-43. I hope you find it encouraging. “The pastor preaching on this story this past Sunday said we should have more faith…as if you can make more faith inside yourself, gathering a kind of interior momentum and stock piling faith in your bad heart, driving away fear. As if you can have more faith by wanting more faith. But faith is not an amount. Faith is a direction. Faith is not what you feel, but rather the one you look towards. The woman in the story looked toward Christ, she reached for Him. Who knows what was in her heart and mind? We know only where she looked. What a relief it is to know that God is not asking for an interior amount. He’s not asking for your feelings of faith, for your interior exactness or your fullness of heart. He is only asking for you to turn your head. Because the one who made you is the one that changes you. You are not required to have assurance; you are required to look to the one who gives assurance. You have faith by looking to the one who gives it. Relax, have doubt, and look. God doesn’t limit his blessing based on how you feel about Him today. He’s not impressed with your interior exactness; he just wants you to look at Him. So he can tell you that you don’t have to feel his promises to be in his promises. When you turn in faith and pray you are not hoping, half heartedly for the resurrection, you are in the resurrection, whether you feel it or not. There is no way out.” Your brother in Christ, Pastor Jay 11007 S. 76th Ave., Worth, IL 60482 E-mail: stmarkworth@comcast.net Web: stmarkworth.org (fax) 708-448-6594 P a g e 2 PASTOR’S PAGE Farewell from Vicar Dan: Dear Congregation of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church: Thank you for all the blessings that you have brought to this church, since the day I first walked in I was captivated by your spirit and the work that you were doing in this ministry. It’s more than just the smiling faces but the movement of the spirit that is in you all. God has and will continue to grow this church for his ministry and that in itself is beautiful. Thank you also for all of the wonderful experience you have given me as well as your intern, it was not only a delight to work with you all and hear your stories but a blessing to see this church on fire for the Lord. As this church has a future in the ministry, so do I. Upon graduating from Trinity I hope to be working in a ministry related field where I can grow in a way that will better me for God’s work. Whether that be here in Chicago or in Wisconsin I am not too sure but as for right now it looks like I will be going back to Camp Manitoqua to work with the kids and spread the word of God. April 24th will be my last day with you all, I bid you a farewell and grace and peace to you all. Sincerely, Vicar Dan P a g e And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. Isaiah 65:24 P r a y e r C o n c e r n s Let us pray . . . Patricia Thompson, Margie Covolo, Kathryn Karaus Amid the Illinois budget crisis, the state Environmental Protection Agency is no longer sending out emissions test notices to vehicle owners. The tests are required when drivers try to renew their license plates, but the EPA stopped sending out the notices back in December. That's the same time the Secretary of State's office stopped sending out license plate renewals to cut costs. The EPA notice is sent out four months in advance, which means vehicle owners are only now feeling the effects. "They're probably going to have lines around the block when people finally realize they didn't get the emissions test when they go to get their license," said Sam Clark, who received a notice. The Secretary of State is still sending out electronic notices for both the plate renewal, which includes information about whether or not a Vehicles Emissions Test is required before the vehicle' registration can be renewed. The Illinois EPA is exploring options for electronic emissions notifications, including possibly consolidating the notifications with the Secretary of State's Office. You can sign up to receive plate renewal e-notices by going to this site: https://www.ilsos.gov/greenmail/. P a g e 6 P a g e 7 P a g e 8 Our St. Mark PADS ministry workers would like to let you know how grateful we are for all the people serving in this ministry. This season is drawing to a close as April 29th is the last Friday of the season to house those who need shelter. The Site Managers and the Cook Teams will have a short time to regroup and get ready for start up again in October. Volunteers will be needed for check ins, donation coordinators, and meal providers. Also needed are people who would be able to provide a bucket and perhaps a bottle of pine sol to clean our facility. Please let Flo or myself know. We hope you had a blessed Easter. Linda Macak P.S. If you can help, we will be serving dinner only on Thursday evenings throughout the summer. If this is something you would like to take part in, please call Flo Breitbarth (708) 254-1142 or the church office (708) 448-6555. P a g e 9 DIVINE $ Ten Years - Eight Months - Four Days!!! Yes! As a result, churches are declining in membership and some have even closed around us. How do we remain consistent to God’s Word yet reach God’s Kingdom? With many moving into the area that do not know about Christ or are disenfranchised with the church, we can no longer wait for people to come to us. How do we approach them? What do we say? Who do we reach out to? We will have many gifted speakers, panels, workshops, time for prayer and discussion, special music and great fellowship and conversations. Come join us to learn but also contribute your knowledge to help one another build on our own relationship with Christ and help us share the LOVE of Christ with others. Be prepared to leave inspired! The conference includes lunch on Saturday and refreshments and materials throughout the day. Cost at the door – add $10.00. For more information or to register please call me.
