Adult Forum Catalog Fall 2015 - Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church
Adult Formation Fall / Winter 2015 Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church Spiritual development is a life-long process! Adult Formation at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church provides opportunities to explore the Bible, pray, and study, and so be formed in the way of Jesus. It also provides opportunities to learn about and discuss a variety of contemporary issues facing Christians today. Please join us as we learn and grow together. Weekly Opportunities Men’s Bible Study Every Tuesday – 6:15 a.m. in the Library Men gather to explore the lectionary readings for the next Sunday. Lectionary & Lunch Every Tuesday – 12:00 p.m. in the Wartburg Room Join Pastor Hansen every Tuesday for a discussion of the scripture readings for the next Sunday. Feel free to bring your lunch! Begins September 22nd. An Experience of St. Francis Wednesdays September 23 - 30 and October 7 - 14 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel Minister of Outreach Patrick Meagher’s summer journey to Assisi afforded a pilgrimage of great significance in his life. Rather than recount this trip with pictures and stories, he wants to share the spiritual experience with you. This four-part 2 class will dedicate an evening each to the four elements of Franciscan prayer that focus on the crucified Christ: Gaze, Consider, Contemplate, and Imitate. Patrick came to know St. Francis as an incarnation of the Incarnation. Francis’s simple life of love offers an invitation to rest in the love of Christ as God meets us where we are and reminds us of God's everlasting commitment to us. This restful spirituality challenges the anxiety that defines our time, and feeds our soul with the nourishment of God's love. Praying the Scriptures Wednesdays beginning October 21 — 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel Join Pastor Hansen in the Chapel for about 45 minutes of listening to and reflecting upon the Gospel reading for the next Sunday. Spirited Women Wednesdays — 10:00 a.m. in the Tree of Life Room Spirited Women of PRLC meets weekly for discussions of the chosen reading and sharing of the doubts, certainties, and challenges of faithful living. Their first book this fall will be Convictions: How I Learned What Matters Most, by Marcus Borg. Sunday Morning Tower Study Sundays beginning September 20 10:00 a.m. in the Tower Room A discussion group for all interested parties around a book or topic. We will begin with Disunity in Christ by Christena Cleveland – a lively, insightful, practical and sometimes humorous look at the “hidden forces” that keep people apart, including those in the body of Christ. 3 Sunday Morning Adult Forum Offerings Meet in the Tree of Life Room on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. September 20, 2015 The Church of Steadfast Love The Church of Steadfast Love is the newest congregation of the Northwest Washington Synod.
