“The School with a “Heart of Gold”
January 2016
A Note from the Principal
Dear REE Family,
Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were restful and full of joy. I
appreciated every moment I had with my family, as well as celebrating the
New Year! The 2015-2016 school year has not been what I expected, but I
am proud to share that Rivers Edge is moving along smoothly.
As most of you know, I am going out on leave to have my scheduled bone marrow transplant. I will be out January 5 and plan to be back by
the end of March. I have full confidence in our staff that the education of
our students will continue at the high level it has always been. Thank you,
parents, for your continued support during this time – your well wishes
and thoughts have made a big impact on my recovery process.
I am pleased to introduce to you, Dr. Kevin G. Perry. He will be
serving as Principal of Rivers Edge while I am away. Dr. Perry has a long
history with St. Lucie County beginning in 1989. He has served as Director
of Bands at Westwood High (earning the St. Lucie County Teacher of the
Year and finalist for the state award) and is the founding Principal of Ft.
Pierce Magnet School of the Arts. He is currently an Assistant to the Superintendent helping with specific duties related to community and district
collaboration and to direct/guide the performance and achievement of all
music, art, dance and drama programs in the district including professional
development. He also mentors a group of 7th-12th graders known as “Men
of Tomorrow”. Our staff has had the opportunity to meet him and we are
all excited that he will be stepping in during this time.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Our staff will be happy to help you in any way we
can.
I will see you soon!

Dress Code Policy
The following letter and dress code was sent home with students before the winter break...
We want you to be aware, upon returning to school, the dress code will be strictly enforced. Please
check your child’s wardrobe and update as needed. For a reference, a copy of the dress code is
below. It states what is and is not accepted. Please note cargo shorts/pants, boots, and distracting
headbands/bows are not part of Rivers Edge’s mandatory uniform policy. The REE sweatshirt sold
through PTO is the only pullover sweatshirt permitted. When looking at the dress code policy handout, check
both the yes and no columns to see if the item is allowed. If you are uncertain, please leave tags on all new purchases and bring the item to the school for approval before wearing. Thank you so much for all you do in helping
your child be successful at school. We look forward to working with you and your child in the new year.
