Dear IMPers:
The fiscal year 2012/13 proved to
be another challenging and successful year at IMP. We acquired
two excellent companies, Cascade
Aerospace and Image Air Charter.
We are excited to welcome both the
management and employee teams
to IMP. We continue to search for
great business opportunities to
grow IMP.
We are very pleased to have been
selected for the third year in a row,
one of Atlantic Canada’s and one
of Nova Scotia’s Top Employers for
2013. These awards recognize the
dedicated and talented group of
employees at IMP.
Last year, we introduced a great
program to reward employee dedication outside of IMP. The Community Volunteer Grant Program
allows IMP to support the organizations you support by volunteering
your time and skills.
As we finish the 1st quarter of this
new fiscal year, we will continue to
look for ways to strengthen IMP locally and globally.
Thank you for your continued efforts which make IMP the successful organization that it has become
today.

Survey Results
2013 Participation Rate 62% 2300 Employees
Sixty-two percent (62%) of all
employees took time to provide
feedback on this year’s Employee
Engagement Survey. This is the
highest participation rate in the five
years we have been conducting the
survey. This feedback helps determine what is working and where
there are areas for improvement
within the Company.
Based on the survey results, while
we have made improvements since
the inception of the Employee Engagement Survey, there is still work
to be done.
The table shows the companywide comparative data. The Corporate Human Resources team
has prepared more detailed results
for your divisional leaders, which
include results and comments at a
departmental level where 7 or more
employees completed the survey.
These results will be presented to
employees by each division’s management team in conjunction with
their Human Resources Team.
This past year, we were very
excited to launch the IMP Community Volunteer Grant Program,
allowing IMP to financially support
the organizations where our employees volunteer their time. This
initiative shows that IMP values our
employees’ efforts not only at work,
but where they spend their volunteer time. As you can see in the
table below, 23 employees submitted
applications for eligible charities.
Eighteen charities benefited from
this new program. A total of $5,570
was paid out in the 2o12/13 fiscal
year. The program allows for $25,000
each fiscal year, so I encourage any
of you who volunteer 20 hours or
more for a charity with a CRA charitable registration number to submit
an application. Applications can be
found on myIMP or ask your human
resources representative.
Thank you once again for your
participation in the survey and the
IMP Community Volunteer Grant
Program.

Stephen Plummer Inducted into Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame
by Atlantic Business Magazine
Kevin Stoddart, Vice President, Knightsbridge Robertson Surette and Stephen Plummer, Group President & CEO
For the fifth year in a row, Stephen
Plummer was named one of the Top
50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada for 2013
by Atlantic Business Magazine. Mr.
Plummer was also inducted into the
Atlantic Business Magazine Hall of
Fame along side other proven CEOs,
including IMP’s own Mr. Ken Rowe,
who was inducted in 2005.
Mr. Plummer stated that his biggest accomplishment is working
for the same company for 35 years,
where he has earned the responsibility and role of Group President &
Chief Executive Officer. Joining IMP
fresh out of university, the company
has grown along with him.
Driven by the need to “achieve

sustainable and profitable growth
across a diversified business base...
and the fear of failure,” Mr. Plummer says his most difficult business
challenge these days is “to equitably
balance the need to cut costs, improve productivity as the Canadian
dollar strengthens and grow profitably.” IMP has met that challenge by
increasing its investments in innovation, tooling and facilities expansion,
allowing it to capture “new export
market opportunities.”
When asked by Atlantic Business
Magazine what topped his bucket
list, he responded, “a photographic
safari in Africa.”

synergies with their existing Primary
Air Vehicle OWSM contract will
further enhance Canada’s operational output, reduce overall costs
and allow for more effective decision
making. It brings them closer to the
original vision of the OWSS longterm, performance-based contract
model.
Under this latest contract, Cascade
will develop operating plans for the
program management and support
of C-130 avionics repair and overhaul, and provide software support,
configuration management, supply
chain management strategies, and
the management of thousands of
avionics-related consumable items.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to
changing the world, one child and one community at a time.
In 1977, twenty five citizens of Gander got together and
formed the Kiwanis Club of Gander with a view of youth
development through music arts. The first Gander and Area
Kiwanis Music Festival was held that year and has been one of
the premier annual music events in the area ever since.
The Gander Kiwanis club is now comprised of 22 volunteer members, holding general meetings on the first and last
Thursday of each month.
The annual Gander Music Festival on average has an overhead of $27,000 to run. More than $7,000 is distributed in
awards and scholarships. This year’s 36th Annual Festival involved over 2,500 young people and several adult participants
which made up 511 entries in Choral, Vocal, Piano, Instrument, Band and Ensemble classes. There were also competitive and non-competitive Solo and Choral Speech classes.
In addition to the Annual Music Festival, the Kiwanis Club
of Gander has developed into an organization that also lends
financial support to many local projects, such as Gander
Academy School Breakfast Program, the Children’s Wish
Foundation, the Gander Middle School Spelling Bee, Gander
Academy Activity Bags, The Central Northeast Health Foundation, the Gander Boys’ and Girls’ Club, the Kiwanis Summer
Music Camp and the Gander Food Bank.
The Kiwanis Club of Gander is also supporting an initiative
in conjunction with Kiwanis International through UNICEF,
to eradicate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) in third world
countries, known as the “Eliminate Project.”
In 30 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal
tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy of childbirth into
tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. Its effects are
excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little
hope of survival, and tetanus kills mothers too.
The club has brought community awareness to this disease
and in 2012, raised $2,300 to help support this very important
cause.
Without the financial support of individuals and businesses
by way of donations, the Kiwanis Club of Gander would not
be able to run the annual music festival or provide the local
community support it has become known for.
On behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Gander, Terry White,
Treasurer and IMP employee, would like to take this opportunity to thank IMP for providing the Community Volunteer
Grant Program donation of $250 to their club.

Bruce Sutherland of IMP Aerospace,
and his wife Jill co-founded the
Make-A-Wish® Foundation of the
Atlantic Provinces in 2001. While
raising two teenagers and both
working full time, Bruce and Jill
spent countless additional hours
establishing and then running the
day-to-day operation of the Foundation from their kitchen table. In
2008, the organization had grown to
the point where an Executive Director could be hired and, over time, most of their efforts have
been assumed by others. Make-A-Wish® Atlantic is a thriving grantor of magical wishes today as a result of their efforts.
For their labour of love, tenacity and dedication, the Make-AWish® Foundation nominated and received Royal Approval
for each to be awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Bruce and Jill’s first wish child, Harry, represents the hundreds since, and demonstrates the power that a wish can
have, and has had for many children. Harry’s wish was to
meet Keiko the Whale.
Harry was undergoing cancer treatments for leukemia.
While in the hospital, he watched and was inspired by the
movie Free Willie and very much wanted to meet the whale
that the movie was based on. Bruce and Jill, working with a
small budget that would never have matched the need if full
price had to be paid, gained support from Iceland Air, the
RCAF detachment in Iceland, and the government of Iceland
to coordinate an incredible wish. Harry and his family were
flown to Reykjavik, had lunch with the President and were
boated to an island off Iceland where Keiko was making his
transition into the wild. Harry touched and hugged Keiko.
Fortunately, Harry recovered and is a healthy 18 year old today. His family continues to support Make-A-Wish® Atlantic
Provinces.
The Certificate in each of their names reads as follows:
On behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I am pleased
to award you the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal,
created to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the Throne.
In granting you this honour, I thank you for your dedicated
service to your peers, to your community and to Canada. The
contributions you have made to our nation are most commendable and deserve our praise and admiration.
I wish to convey to you the heartfelt congratulations of
your fellow Canadians, to which I add my own.

Computers donated from IMP Solutions
offer a Window on the World for Seniors
in Nova Scotia
Brenda Wyatt and Dave MacKinnon
David MacKinnon remembers the
first time he saw the impact computers can have on seniors. David is Vice
President of Sales and Marketing for
IMP Solutions in Halifax. During
the 1990s, he helped put computers into a number of private schools
in Toronto. One of the schools had
a program that brought together
students and seniors.
“Email was just becoming popular
at that time,” he says. When some of
the seniors asked if they could connect with relatives living in Israel, he
helped them to write an email and
saw their amazement and excitement when they got a reply the next
day. It’s that look on their face he
remembers and it’s one he wants to
see again with Northwood’s clients.
“Our generation accepts computers and modern technology as a
necessity. Our children, however, are
totally immersed in the technology
and readily accept the rapid pace of
change it brings without question.
For seniors, it is still the stuff of science fiction and Flash Gordon.”
Computers can open a window to
the world for seniors. Not bound by
space or physical limitations, they
10
can connect with family and friends
instantaneously through email,
Skype and video conferencing. They
can surf the Net, do their banking
and download an endless database
of information.
David remembers connecting with
his mother in Cape Breton as his
kids played in the background. At
one point, his mother saw the kids
running along the edge of the pool
and reminded them that running
was dangerous. “Technology allows her to be a grandmother even
though she’s separated by distance.”
That’s the magic of technology.
“We may need to show seniors how
and help them get past the fear,” says
David. “But the rewards are immense.” Thanks to IMP Solutions,
Northwood’s residents and clients
will get that chance and have the
benefit of the latest technology. IMP
is donating 15 laptops to Reboom to
help people connect with the world
around them.

Cloud
IMP Solutions will launch a Managed IT Services (MITS) and Cloud
Services business this summer.
The firm’s MITS practice will
provide full operational support of
customer networks and devices,
with the goal of keeping them running, secure and optimized.
There will be a Network Operations Center (NOC) and Service
Desk staffed 24X7X365, based in
Halifax. The NOC team will be responsible for remotely monitoring
and managing customer systems to
defined service levels. The service
will include technical resources
(Site Managers) familiar with
customers’ infrastructure, who
will perform any on-site services
required. Support processes will
be based on recognized industry
best practices, supported by worldclass monitoring and service desk
software.
One of the hottest trends in the
IT industry today is cloud computing - a type of Internet-based
computing, where different services -- such as processing, storage
and applications -- are delivered
through the Internet. IMP Solutions will offer a wide range
of cloud services to customers,
ranging from email to data backup

component repair/replacement is
driven by conditional inspections.
Replacement of the horizontal stabilizer and the FS 1117 main attachment rings, which attach the empennage (tail section) to the aircraft
fuselage, requires the removal and
dismantling of the entire tail section
of the aircraft. State of the art laser
alignment equipment is used to ensure alignment and symmetry of the
structure. This ensures the structure
is reattached to the aircraft fuselage
in accordance with the requirements and the close tolerances of the
technical data package. An overhead
crane is used to do the heavy lifting
and a crew of highly skilled technicians carries out the structure teardown and rebuild.
Installation procedures have been

refined as a result of lessons learned
from the prototype and proof fit

a result of close collaboration of the
ASLEP team including Engineering, Tooling, Production Supervision and Shop Floor Technicians.
Replacement of these components
with enhanced design and improved
corrosion resistant materials should
reduce maintenance costs while giving the Canadian Forces additional
flight hours of service life for the

During the course of the Life Extension Program on the CP140, 10

The requirement for the replacement

specific areas of the CP140 structure.
Replacement of the wings and

can’t guarantee that level of success
year round, they do believe they have
created a strong, sustainable program that will continue to result in
vastly reduced numbers of lost time
claims.
As a Division, they attribute their
most recent success to a few new
programs that have been introduced
in the last 6 months, most notably, a
Modified Return to Work Program,
which has been responsible for the
successful reintegration of 95% of
injured employees back to the workforce. Their modified work also
offers their employees the chance
12
to see another side of the business –
something they wouldn’t normally
have the opportunity to do – and
they’ve been given some very positive feedback from employees who
have enjoyed the experience.
In addition, CanJet has been working with physiotherapy clinics across
the country, placing employees in
rehabilitation programs, wherever
possible, in order to facilitate a more
expedient and safer return to work,
while helping to reduce the chance
of re-injury.
Where these programs are reactive, CanJet is now focusing on an
Accident Prevention Strategy that
will see a Hazard Identification team
evaluate current equipment/work
processes,
etc., that,
through
trending has been identified as a
hazard, while also evaluating new
and proposed service level equipment, so that training, safe work
practices and any other proactive
programs can be instituted to prevent unnecessary injuries.
Their success depends on the
health and well being of their employee group, and they will continue
to strive to put programs in place
that demonstrate their commitment
to employee safety.

Employment Equity - Aerospace
Participates in Techsploration
Summer 2013
Techsploration is a
not-for-profit
organization that
was established in
1998 to work
towards increasing the number of
women who are
employed in science,
trades, technical and
technology-related
fields.
Lydia Stewart, Intermediate Planner and Severine Guitton, Manager Continuous Improvement
IMP Aerospace had such a positive
experience with Techsploration last
year that they were both eager and
pleased to be able to take part in
their programming this year.
Lydia Stewart (Intermediate Planner) and Severine Guitton (Manager
Continuous Improvement) kindly
volunteered to participate in various Techsploration Goes to School
events throughout the month of
April. The purpose of these events
was to speak to young women and
encourage them to explore careers
in fields where women are currently under-represented. Some of
the sessions included a mix of both
females and males. Lydia and Severine visited junior high schools and
talked about their education, work
experiences and background in a
round-robin environment.
“I was able to participate and go
to four schools this year within the
Halifax Regional Area. I was able to
talk about what career I have. I was
also able to show the students different aspects that are involved within
16
my trade. There were [people from]
as many as six different types of
careers at the school that day to talk
about their jobs. It was very informative. When I was a young student,
I wish that this type of program was
offered. When I was in grade nine,
this program could have helped me
to look at the different jobs that are
available today.” – Lydia Stewart
“Techsploration caters to students
both in rural and urban areas reaching out to boys and girls who have
never heard of IMP. This program
enabled IMP to show students what
careers we have in Nova Scotia and
inform them of the different trade
courses available such as the NSCC
structures courses. It’s a great way
to introduce non-traditional careers
to students and encourage them to
ponder a future in a technical role.” –
Severine Guitton
Techsploration is a not-for-profit
organization that was established in
1998 to work towards increasing the
number of women who are employed
in science, trades, technical and
technology-related fields. It is the
result of a joint initiative of the Nova
Scotia Community College (NSCC),
Women in Trades and Technology
(WITT-NS) and the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced
Education, Apprenticeship Training
Division. Techsploration relies on
employers to supply female volunteers who work in non-traditional
fields that young women can interact
with through various events and
programs.
We would like to thank Lydia and
Severine for volunteering. We would
also like to thank Chris Harding
(Manager Planning & Estimating), Dale Rockwell (Vice President
Continuous Improvement) and Tom
Galley (Executive Vice President) for
their support of both this initiative
and Lydia and Severine’s participation.

One important way to prevent back injuries is to design
workplaces to minimize the risk.
It’s a four-step process:
Recognize the signs – look for things such as employees stretching or rubbing sore muscles, comments
about discomfort, self-modifying equipment or workstations, and quality or production issues.
Spot the hazards – watch out for awkward body
postures held for extended periods of time, applying
excessive forces with the body, repetitive work for long
periods, poor lighting, excessive vibration or excessive
exposure to heat or cold without protection.
Peter Rutherford, Innotech International Sales Manager
Innotech Aviation attended the ABACE (Asian Business
Aviation Convention & Exhibition) show in Shanghai,
China in April. The Asia market continues to grow at a
strong pace with a new potential customer taking delivery
of an aircraft each month. Peter Rutherford, Innotech
International Sales Manager, was very pleased with both
the quality and quantity of customers attending, which
in turn developed new quote activity and relationships
in this active and growing region of business aviation opportunity.
Congratulations Innotech Aviation on
the successful completion of your recent
Nadcap audit!
In accordance with SAE Aerospace Standard AS7003, to the revision in effect at the time of the audit,

Fix the hazards – change work processes to improve
working posture, reduce the need to lift and manually
move materials, reduce physical forced needed to do the
job and reduce task repetition.
Eliminate future hazards – managers can help eliminate future hazards by assessing the ergonomics of
equipment and workstations, consider the requirements
of the task, who is doing the work, and where is it being
done. Then review the worst-case scenario and consequences of human error.

Cascade Goes
Pink!
Staff at Cascade Aerospace took part in Anti-Bullying Day
(aka Pink Shirt Day); an anti-bullying movement that began in Nova Scotia six years ago and has snowballed into a
Canada-wide event.
Staff was encouraged to “Take a Stand against Bullying” by wearing pink to work on February 27th and they
did not disappoint. The Executive team along with the
Human Resources group served up nachos as staff took a
well-deserved afternoon break and every employee wearing pink was entered into our grand prize draw.
Deborah Maynard, VP of Human Resources at Cascade
Aerospace, says, “Bullying is a serious and ongoing issue
regardless of where it is happening. If we can spare even
one victim then it’s worth it for us to do what we can to
help foster this indispensable campaign.”
In recent years, studies show as many as 40 percent of
Canadian workers have reported bullying in the workplace making bullying the enemy of productivity. The
truth is that bullying happens to someone in Canada
every 7 minutes. But when peers step in the bullying is
likely to stop within ten seconds (bullying.org).
Workplace bullies create a tremendous liability for
an employer by causing stress-related health and safety
problems which drives good employees out of an organization. Organizations who manage people well, outperform those who don’t by 30 to 40 percent. There is no
place for bullies in a well-run organization.
Take a stand against bullying everywhere at any time of
the year.
