Nothing guarantees the success of a dude ranch vacation more than making the right
match of “dude” with “ranch.” Here you’ll find descriptions of over one hundred
authentic Western dude ranches. Each ranch offers its own brand of amenities,
activities, and hospitality.
~ $ Pricing $ ~
There’s a ranch for every budget. To help you find yours, we have
used the following rate code at the end of each ranch listing to
indicate the typical weekly rate for that ranch’s primary dude ranch
season.
Most rates are for an American Plan, which typically includes
accommodations, meals, horseback riding, and most other
ranch activities. See the “Guide to Ranch Activities” grids on
pages 28-30 for details regarding what is included. Often ranches
offer more than one rate – children’s rates, early and late season discounts, and “special” week rates and shorter stays are common. Be
sure to ask for each ranch’s rate sheet when requesting a brochure.
For a more detailed ranch search option please go to our web site at www.duderanch.org

Ranch Categories:
To assist you in determining which dude ranch is
right for you, the ranchers have categorized their
ranches into one of three broad descriptions. It is
difficult to pigeonhole a ranch since each operation
is unique and reflects the personality of the owner.
All of our ranches offer a Western riding experience,
operate on the American plan, provide genuine hospitality and are wonderful destination vacations.
Within each category, ranches vary in size and from
simple to luxurious. Be sure to ask about the activities and amenities offered on each ranch.
Working Dude Ranch
These are working cattle or sheep operations. Your
horseback riding adventures will be determined
by the ranch’s livestock and the work related to
them. Be prepared to experience these activities
first hand.
Dude Ranch
Horseback riding is central to these ranches. The
cowboy in you will experience Western riding and a
variety of outdoor activities.
Resort Dude Ranch
Horseback riding is featured, and these ranches
offer an array of diverse activities and onsite facilities. These are apt to be the larger ranches.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Dude Rancher’s Association is the governing body of the West’s Dude Ranch industry. The
Association was created to provide an organized structure for its members, in which they are able
to exchange ideas and experiences in an effort to uphold the highest quality of services within
the industry. The Association promotes the western ranch vacation, while continuing to build
a stronger working relationship with Federal and State land agencies in order to preserve and
protect parks, forests, and wildlife. The Association makes every effort to assure the successful
continuation of the traditional Western Dude Ranch experience.
II. CODE OF ETHICS
All members of the Dude Ranchers’ Association must maintain a high quality of accommodations
and services in a clean, friendly, safe, professional manner. Members must practice open and
honest marketing and advertising when interacting with potential clientele. Members must
adhere to all regulations, and provide information to clientele, concerning the responsible and
sustainable use of resources. Members and the Association will work in cooperation with Federal
and State land agencies to ensure the preservation of resources and habitat. Members must
work together in an ethical manner in an effort to promote professional growth within the dude
ranching industry.
HORSE SAFETY AND ADAPTIVE FIRST AID FOR THE TRAIL
This program has been established to certify member ranches in Horse Safety and First Aid for the Trail.
The program is a reflection of a proactive approach by the DRA to promote good SAFE horse programs that
prepare staff to handle any emergencies that may occur on the trail and to be recognized as experts in the
industry. The program provides an educational opportunity through two seminars required for certification.
These seminars promote continual evaluation of safety procedures and skills. This program is a reflection
of the member ranches and our responsibility to give guest riders an enjoyable experience along with
exercising the highest degree of care to safeguard the well-being of our riders. The DRA relies upon the
integrity of its certified members to review their program based on the minimum safety standards of the
certification program. Each certified ranch must be recertified every three years. The owner, operator or
manager must attend both seminars to complete or update current certification.
