This day will allow us to achieve a number of critical goals as we move forward to implement the Inspiring Education framework. Firstly, all staff in Wolf Creek Public Schools will be able to work together to develop new skills relative to the proposed changes in our learning curriculum. This common time will be critical as the new curriculum unfolds in that it will allow teachers working in the same subject area to share strategies that will create excellent learning environments for all students. All schools will have the same schedule so that parents will not be placed in a position where some of their children are in school for the day while the others remain at home. Teachers will also have the ability to share information about the students they share and work together to ensure that supports are in place during all learning situations. This will not only assist our students but also allow our teachers to discuss potential instructional strategies and assessment techniques that can be utilized in various learning support situations. Literacy and Numeracy WCPS has purchased software that will allow us to determine each student’s abilities and needs in the areas of literacy and numeracy. During the 2014-2015 school year every student will be assessed in these two areas and follow up strategies will be put in place to ensure that each student has the foundational skill sets to ensure success in all subject areas. Our schools will keep everyone up to date in regards to these assessments and how they are impacting students at their educational site. Please contact your local school if you have any questions around this process. To ensure our success in the multiple changes being contemplated by the world of education, the Board has asked the Superintendent to develop an ‘analysis process’ that will consider all aspects of our operations in Wolf Creek Public Schools. This is reflective of the fact that as the Province moves to the ‘Inspiring Education’ model there will be new demands and expectations on how school divisions implement all aspects of this initiative in their jurisdiction. Our goal is to start this process in the fall of 2014 and utilize its commentary to assist the Trustees in their funding allocation and governance deliberations during the spring of 2015. Further details around this process will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.
