Chile, 1968) is a multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, singer and teacher. Learning guitar and traditional Latin American instruments (charango, zampoñas, kena) from an early age, he was selected as one of twenty applicants to take up formal tertiary studies at the Conservatorio de Musica, Universidad de Chile in 1986. Upon migrating to Australia in 1988, Carlos has been working as a professional musician for numerous Musica Viva Australia performances in Australia and overseas as well as leading his own ensemble, Tigramuna, which has played at many international jazz, world and Latin festivals. As a multi-instrumentalist musician, Carlos has worked and recorded for various artists including Nigel Westlake’s IMAX soundtrack 'Solarmax' and Kim Sanders’ world/middle eastern fusion ensemble. In 1998 Carlos received an ARIA Award nomination for an album of his own compositions and he continues to attract acclaim for composing and arrangements, with his original arrangements of traditional Latin American songs performed with the acclaimed Sydney Children’s Choir at City Recital Hall, Angel Place. Carlos is currently completing his PhD in Music Composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and fulfils teaching and performance commitments in Chile, Australia and Asia. DANIEL ROJAS | Composer, Pianist Daniel Rojas is a Chilean-born Australian pianist — and arguably Sydney's best Latin pianist — as well as being renowned as an award-winning composer specialising in the rich and vibrant Latin American aesthetic. In his work as a composer and improviser, Rojas draws from a broad musical palette that includes Latin American indigenous, folk, classical and popular traditions, and Western contemporary classical and jazz languages and techniques. Daniel Rojas’ formal studies in piano, violin and music theory began in Australia studying with Neta Maughan, Elizabeth Green, Phyllida Green, and Gianfranco Ricci, nurturing his interest in the music of various cultures and leading to performances with classical and world music ensembles such as Jacana, Tigramuna and the Great Bowing Company, as well as solo concerts in Australia, Asia, and South America. Rojas’ musical experience also extends to composing and conducting for film, and as a passionate music educator, working with communities, schools and festivals. Invited for residencies (as composer and musician) at a number of institutions around Australia including the Queensland Music Festival, Rojas is currently Associate Lecturer in Music Teaching and Research at the University of Sydney. ~ Refreshments will be available during the interval www.MusicAtManly.com | Manly Music Club | phone: (02) 9948 7738 Rhythms of the Heart Daniel Alomia Robles El Condor Pasa Consuelo Velasquez arranged by Daniel Rojas Fantasia on the theme of Besame Mucho (piano and voice) Carlos Gardel Por Una Cabeza (tango from the film, Scent of a Woman) Piazzolla arr.
