EXPRESS YOURSELF
Selected artworks by 2013 HSC Visual
Arts students from schools across Sydney’s
Northern Beaches region.
The diverse works – photographic, drawn,
sculptural or time-based – are inspired by
each student’s experiences; some reflecting
personal issues; others exploring the
broader social, political and environmental
issues relevant to young artists. Curated
by Ross Heathcote with Rachel Carroll,
Bronwen Dugan and Melinda Hodges.

THE COURSE OF OBJECTS:
THE FINE LINES OF INQUIRY
This exhibition aims to map recent ceramic
practice in Australia that explores or
embodies pertinent ideas. Unravelling the
associations between things or constellations
in things, curator Susan Ostling and 26
contemporary artists consider possible
transient affinities and correspondences
between the selected works to trigger or to
extend connections in the realm of metaphor.
Presented in partnership wth The Australian
Ceramics Association.

WHAT’S ON
21 March – 27 April
The three o’s:
Orban, Olsen and Ogburn
The acceptance of the modern art movement
can in part be attributed to the arrival in Australia
of WWII refugees such as Hungarian-born artist
and writer Desiderius Orban whose publications
such as Understanding Art were highly influential
and continue to be recommended reading
for art students today. This touring exhibition
focuses on three interconnected artists; Orban
(the prophet), Olsen (the poet) and Ogburn (the
philosopher), and it draws on works from private
and public collections. This exhibition is part of
ARTMONTH, Sydney.

501 little dishes:
a childhood memoir
Christine Ball takes us on a journey
through her Northern Beaches childhood
from 1952 until her final year of school in
1970. The images – sometimes abstract,
sometimes figurative – are mapped on
small hanging dishes measuring 12cm in
diameter, creating a dynamic and evocating
installation exploring memory and place.

CREATIVE LEARNING
SEE. CREATE. EXPLORE. IMMERSE.
There’s always something happening
at MAG&M, with regular artist talks,
workshops, performances and creative
activities for adults and children.
MAG&M and MAG&M Society offer a
range of creative learning experiences to

vibrant and creative cultural hub of the
Northern Beaches.
In addition, this season there are some
very special partner events: March is all
about contemporary art with Art Month;
May/June is the Head On photography

Gamaragal
From the skeleton of ‘Narrabeen Man’,
ritually speared some 3700 years ago, to
Mickey of Ulladulla’s planned corroboree
at Clontarf for the Prince of Wales in 1868,
Gamaragal captures the world of the
Indigenous fisher-hunter people of Manly
(Kayeemy) and the North Shore through
vivid portrait and paintings by English, French
and Russian artists, maps and rarely seen
artefacts.

MIDNIGHT OIL
A major touring exhibition developed by
MAG&M, funded by Visions of Australia
and Arts NSW, celebrates the role
Midnight Oil has played in our social
and cultural history over the past 40
years. A collection of rare memorabilia
- artefacts, posters, film, documents and
photographs - sourced from public and
private collections, including the archive
of the band itself, forms the exhibition.
Curated by Ross Heathcote, with
