The exhibition is designed to provide the fine watch making sector and the independent watch makers a unique opportunity to meet the Middle East watch collectors, watch connoisseurs, and the high net worth individuals across the UAE and the region. The First Salon de Grandes Complications comes at a time where the Middle East Swiss watch market is witnessing a remarkable growth. And with Dubai chosen for the First Salon de Grandes Complications, the event is taking place in a perfect location at the heart of the region’s most vibrant city. The First Salon de Grandes Complications in Dubai sets the stage for 14 prestigious maisons at the “Atrium Centre”, the heart of Dubai International Financial center. Visitors will discover creations that are sure to seduce and surprise them with a profusion of creativity and expertise. 10 11 EXIT ENTRANCE ENTRANCE REGISTRATION With an ambition of constantly defining benchmarks, each A. Lange & Söhne watch is handcrafted in a spirit to pursue one goal: to create timepieces that represent the pinnacle of haute horlogerie. A constant quest for perfection is clearly demonstrated by the two-fold assembly of all models, the one-of-a-kind balance cock hand engraving or the unrivalled mechanical solutions. The latest additions to the A. Lange & Söhne collection underscore the manufactory’s technical expertise. Highlights include the pioneering Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar “Terraluna” with its patented orbital moon-phase display and its mechanism so accurate that it can run for over one thousand years before it deviates from the lunar cycle by a day, and the 1815 TOURBILON which for the very first time unites the stop-seconds mechanism for the tourbillon with the Zero-Reset function, making it possible to stop and set the new watch with one-second accuracy. 12 Today part of the LVMH Group, Bvlgari was founded in Rome in 1884 as a jewellery shop and progressively imposed itself with its magnificent jewellery creations, emblems of the Italian excellence. The international success made the company evolve into its current dimension as a global and diversified player in the luxury market with a portfolio of products and services ranging from jewels and watches to accessories, perfumes and hotels. The vertical integration that began a few years ago has effectively put Bvlgari watchmaking right up amongst the elite of Swiss watch manufacturers. With currently over 350-strong workforce and integrated production of all watch parts, the Manufacture Bvlgari has developed so strongly that it now fully masters the production of mechanical watch movements ranging from Grande Complication to ultra-thin hand-wound calibres, as well as standard Solotempo self-winding base movements. Production of the external elements – metal cases and bracelets, high-end dials – is also done internally. 13 In the elite world of Swiss Haute Horlogerie, there are some brands that instantly make an impact, leaving connoisseurs speechless. Cvstos is one such brand. Ever since its launch in 2005, Cvstos, with its distinctive high-tech approach to exclusive watchmaking, has boldly risen to the challenge of creating a pioneering style and a new market demand. Taken directly from the Latin for “guardian”, the name Cvstos was freely inspired by the boundless creativity of an exceptional team of complementary talents, each one fired by a burning passion to produce one-of-a-kind timepieces. Illustrating a powerful holistic concept, the Cvstos style embraces a particularly modern approach to design, one that manifests itself in the perfect balance between traditional watchmaking and state-of-the-art innovation. Always a step ahead of time, Cvstos, the avant-garde benchmark in high-end watchmaking, anticipates current trends, relentlessly pursuing growth by doing today what others will do tomorrow. 14 SOUNDS AS beAUtifUl AS it lOOKS The new BeoVision Avant. 85” of great sound An Ultra High-Definition, 4K TV with iconic sound and amazing movement designed to provide exceptional viewing flexibility. His first concept watch was followed by the Hélios Solar Deity collection, which received a Watch Award at the 2011 Geneva Time Exhibition. The following year Frédéric Jouvenot was commissioned by Dior for the development of its famous calibre “inversed Dior” of the “Grand Bal” collection. Frédéric Jouvenot has consolidated his activities under a private limited company, FJ Design LLC. He is the CEO and oversees all product development. The marque’s talented creator is now extending his Solar Deity collection with the Surya line, an intricate design aimed at women. The Surya Solar Deity was officially presented for the first time in February 2014 at the Sunluxe Collection show in Macau. The Surya signifies a world first in jewelry: a flower dial with 12 jumping petals indicating each hour. The petals reveal the time in a unique mechanical complication entirely conceived and created by Frédéric Jouvenot. This new concept in horological thinking is instantly visible on the dial and animated by the blossoming of a flower in a different colour at both midday and midnight. Simple to read yet fitted with a complex mechanism, the Surya has two faces, corresponding to the day and night cycles. For the first time in watchmaking history, a watch displays the time without conventional hands, numerals or disks. The twelve petals show the path of the sun on the dial while indicating the hour just passed and the one to come. 16 17 Double Tourbillon Incliné, spectacular and highly technical Once again, Greubel Forsey plays with the structure of its movement that can be seen from both sides of the watch. This Double Tourbillon Technique 30° bi-color revisits Greubel Forsey’s first invention: the Double Tourbillon Incliné à 30. Its new, more aesthetically pleasing architecture is an invitation to explore the mysteries of this ultra-complex invention. While the two versions (Platinum or 5N Red Gold) have distinctly different characters, both present a striking contrast between the metal of the case and the black chrome finish of the movement. In the Platinum version, the contrast between the light grey case and the deep yet brilliant black chrome is particularly effective. The steel bridges of the Double Tourbillon 30° carriage create a resonance with the platinum. On the side of the case, a summary of the philosophy of Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey is engraved on plaques of black ADLC titanium. The version in 5N Red Gold offers a softer, smoother harmony between the warmth of the gold case, which also has the black plaques on the side, and the various components of the movements in blackened chrome. 18 GRIEB & BENZINGER is specialized in the creation and production of bespoke timepieces. One of the company`s major guidelines is to fulfill customer`s horological wishes. Due to that very special personal customer service for the creation and production of watches, G&B watches are not to be found at retailers. Instead GRIEB & BENZINGER offers a concierge customer service and visit customers personally to present the watch concepts and to discuss the possibilities of creating bespoke one-of-a-kind timepieces. The meager production amount of 100 watches/year is the result of the enormous technical range of manufacture accomplished by hand and makes these watches rare, exclusive and desirable for customers looking for the extraordinary, standing out in a market flooded with mass luxury. GRIEB & BENZINGER offers two lines: Boutique collection and Platinum masterpieces which are high profile one-of-a-kind watches based on a rare historic mechanical movement totally restored and modified. 19 Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. These precious timepieces, including their in-house calibres, are conceived and crafted in the Montblanc Manufactures in Villeret and Le Locle. Our Manufacture in Villeret goes back to 1858, when it was founded under the name of Minerva. To this day, the timepieces of the Villeret 1858 Collection are made by hand in the traditional way. Meanwhile, in Le Locle, they enhance the tradition of Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship with the most modern technologies. The result can be seen in the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Collection. Montblanc’s approach to watchmaking encompasses the entire process of creating a timepiece, from conception, through development, to manufacturing and absolute quality testing. 24 WHEN THE WORLD’S THINNEST MECHANICAL WATCH MERGES THE CALIBRE WITH ITS CASE Neither entirely a movement nor exactly a case – or rather both at once: the Altiplano 38 mm 900P is the world’s thinnest mechanical watch. Merging the hand-wound calibre with the case elements, it is designed as a single entity in order to achieve record-breaking slenderness at just 3.65 mm thin. Made of 18k gold, this timepiece’s calibre and case merge to form a whole with a black-coated movement. The Altiplano 38 mm 900P also has a generous power reserve of around 48 hours. Representing a crowning achievement in over half a century of virtuoso skills displayed in the realm of ultra-thin watchmaking where Piaget reigns supreme, it conveys the excellence of the two integrated Manufactures run by the Maison. Piaget, the master of ultra-thin. 25 By utilizing the high precision mechanics capability of an industry previously reserved for making only finely crafted Swiss watches, the Roland Iten Mechanical Luxury Company has pioneered a new segment in the high men’s jewelry sector which it calls Haute Mechanic for Gentlemen™. The Roland Iten brand is all about discovery and the man behind the marque in his own name, creates the finest, most complex men’s accessories in the world – designed, crafted and finished like a high-end Swiss watch. Roland Iten’s creations are inspired by the mechanical age of the aero plane and the steam engine. His passion for mechanical objects and his keen eye for design enables him to liberate mundane objects into the world of precision engineering, and in doing so, he has produced exceptional creations. He brings extraordinary character to belts, cufflinks and other men’s accessories, transforming them into precision perfect, mechanically performing objects that function with complete finesse. 26 Founded in 1755 in Geneva, Vacheron Constantin is the oldest watchmaking manufacturer in the world, with an uninterrupted activity of almost 260 years. Founders of the very spirit of the precious and technically fine watchmaking, the men and the women of Vacheron Constantin continue to design, develop and produce exceptional timekeepers, remaining close to the three fundamentals of the brand: perfectly mastered technique, harmonious and inspired aesthetics, and an extremely high level of finishing touches. 27 Halter majored in mechanical horology and in his last year he supplemented this with studies in electronic horology. In 1990 Francois–Paul Journe invited Halter to join him in Sainte-Croix, a small village in the Swiss Jura Mountains. But the fever of independence stroked him again and Vianney Halter founded in 1994 La Manufacture Janvier SA in Sainte-Croix. In 2011, Vianney Halter was awarded 2011 Best Watchmaker-Designer Prize at the Xlth Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix, and in 2013, Deep Space Tourbillon was awarded 2013 Innovation Prize. From 1998 to 2014, a few more than 500 watches bearing Vianney Halter’s signature were produced. Each of them bears a part of creativity and passion that liven up the VH team and is an illustration of the strong demand for excellence which is the hallmark of La Manufacture Janvier. 28 Watches that emerge from the Voutilainen workshop in Môtiers, Switzerland are the kind of creations that can weaken the knees of any watch nerd. Their entirely handmade watches are the result of one Kari Voutilainen, a Finnish watchmaker. Kari Voutilainen, was born in 1962, residing in Môtiers, Switzerland. Kari trained at WOSTEP with a specialization in restoring complicated and rare wristwatches. He started an independent watchmaking business in 2002, building a limited number of handmade timekeepers. In 2005, he introduced the world’s first decimal repeater sounding hours, ten-minute intervals and then minutes. Voutilainen watches represent a very special proposition to a specific type of enthusiast collector. Characterized by extremely limited production, customized service and the promise of something both technically interesting and quite beautiful, a Voutilainen would be a prize in any collection. 29 SPONSORS Bang & Olufsen is the global provider of luxury, integrated audio-video solutions and services.
