Meadowlands Racetrack chairman Jeff Gural said Thursday
that he is ?really shocked" that (Monmouth Park) advisor
Dennis Drazin ?came out and tried to make me look bad?this
week.
In an Asbury Park Press story by Stephen Edelson published
Thursday, Drazin was quoted as saying Gural has reneged on
an alleged promise on casino revenue to be directed to
purses should New Jersey voters authorize casinos in the
north of the state and the Meadowlands is selected as a site
for one of the casinos.
?Gural looked for our support to get all the votes from the
Monmouth and Ocean county legislators to get the
referendum on the ballot,?Drazin said. ?He promised us he
would insure that we would get at least 10 per cent by
making up the difference between the two per cent
(currently allocated to go to purses) and 10 per cent out of

his end if he had to, which would be $80 to $100 million, to

promise. And now he is trying to solicit our support from the
referendum and he basically has refused to discuss giving

him $150 million, I don?t think that makes a lot of sense.?
When contacted by Harness Racing Update Thursday
afternoon, Gural said he didn?t make a specific commitment
to either the thoroughbred or standardbred horsepeople on
casino revenue sharing because he does not know, exactly,
how much is even possible. ?I don?t know what the tax rate is,
I don?t know who my partner is going to be,?he said.
This week it was also announced that Triple Five, the
developer behind the much-delayed mega-mall project
adjacent to the Meadowlands and Met-Life Stadium will
receive an $800 million bond offering from the state
designed to help put the long-stalled American Dream
Meadowlands shopping and entertainment complex back on
track. In a story on newjersey.com, reporter John Brennan
wrote, ?the $800 million is in addition to $350 million in tax
breaks that the state Economic Development Authority has
already approved, along with another $1.5 billion in private
financing.?The article quoted Tony Armlin vice-president of
development for Triple Five as saying, ?Triple Five was
brought in to revive the project in 2011 after two previous
developers failed to complete it. Since then, it has spent
$600 million, with much of those costs related to the
construction of the foundation for a 639,000-square-foot
Gural said he did not understand Drazin?s strategy.
?I don?t see how he?s better off if (the casino initiative)
doesn?t pass,?Gural said. ?I?ve made it clear to Dennis that I?m
a horseman. I will not do anything that would not allow
horse racing to be viable? Dennis is a friend of mine, but I
don?t understand his logic? Fortunately, the (Asbury Park
Press) story was okay because the reporter quoted me
correctly as saying that I would guarantee that the horsemen
are not left out and the industry is able to survive and
support itself. But for Dennis to say he wants me to promise
Monmouth Park thoroughbred horsepeople are in line to
share the horsepeople?s cut of the revenue if a casino is
granted at the Meadowlands. Gural said any perceived
friction between the two struggling breeds in New Jersey,
?doesn?t help and the whole thing frustrates me.?

time, destroyed our breeding industry. Triple Five is still
floundering. We opened on schedule and we continue to
operate. It?s frustrating, but that?s life.?
Triple Five has also indicated that, if voters approve
casinos in the north of the state, it would likely bid to have a
casino at the mall ? like the one it has at the West
Edmonton Mall ? in direct opposition to Gural?s site.
Gural said polling on the casino question continues to be
?a toss up,?but his pro-casino lobby just started its campaign
this week, with the opposition set to ramp up its message
next week.
?I?m not really that worried about Triple Five,?Gural said.
?They just got the state, somehow, to get involved in trying to
raise another $800 million in bond financing. They said that
if everything goes right, they wouldn?t complete the project
until late 2018. So, my sense is that they?ve got their hands
full just getting this project completed. We?re up and running.
We could convert to a casino in a few months. I think we?re
on the right side of the (sports complex).?
?They?re basically tying into the mood of the country, which
is, ?
All government is bad and why would you trust the
people in Trenton to actually use this money the way they
promised.?It?s interesting. It?s obviously a message that
appeals to the voters. I don?t know. We?ll see.?
Gural called on all horsepeople to support the casino
initiative ? including financial support ? saying a casino at
the Big M is critical to horse racing?s survival in the state.
Asked for his thoughts on how the mall project, which has
been stalled for 15 years, could receive help to the tune of
$800 million when horse racing is struggling in the state,
Gural said, ?It?s frustrating. The only one that has really
accomplished anything is me. The money that was diverted
to Atlantic City didn?t accomplish anything. Atlantic City went
down the tubes and took our money with it and, at the same

and has drawn the coveted rail position for trainer Clyde
Francis. As the richest horse in the field with over $3 million
in lifetime purse earnings, Wiggle It Jiggleit has been tabbed
2-1 on the morning line with driver Montrell Teague at the
lines. Last season, Wiggle It Jiggleit won 22 of 26 starts for
earnings of over $2.2 million. His list of accolades includes
victories in the Meadowlands Pace, the Little Brown Jug and
the Progress Pace. The four-year-old Indiana-sired gelding
set the Hoosier Park track record for three-year-old pacing
geldings last year and has won 10 of 16 starts thus far this
season.
Hoosier Park?s all-time leading driver, Trace Tetrick, has
been enlisted to drive Freaky Feet Pete from post two for
trainer Larry Rheinheimer. Freaky Feet Pete, the winner of the
2015 Breeders Crown final for three-year-old pacing colts, is
a winner of over $1.4 million in lifetime earnings and has
been assigned odds of 5-1.

The 23rd installment of Hoosier Park?s signature event will

Dan Patch stakes will serve as Indiana?s richest harness race
of the season and mark the biggest purse offering in the
history of the race.
Also joining the stellar cast of entrants is Shamballa who
will start from post seven with Scott Zeron in the bike.
Trained by Rick Zeron, the Canadian pacing sensation proved
he is a main contender for the 2016 Dan Patch title after
pulling the 8-1 upset over ?The Big Three?in the $225,550
U.S. Pacing Championship for older pacers at the
Meadowlands Racetrack last week.
With combined career purse earnings over $12 million, the
talented field of nine includes six world champions and six
millionaires. Fellow Indiana-sired world champions Freaky
Feet Pete, Wiggle It Jiggleit, and Always B Miki have made up
the ?Big Three?in the aged pacing ranks this season and will
lead the list of Dan Patch entrants.
Always B Miki, the number one ranked horse in harness
racing?s weekly poll, will play the role of morning line
favorite in the field of nine at odds of 8-5 from post nine.
The five-year-old world champion pacer will make his 10th
seasonal start with regular pilot David Miller in the bike for
trainer Jimmy Takter. Takter, who trained the 2015 Dan Patch
Stakes winner JK Endofanera, will look to be the first trainer

Freshman pacers were in the spotlight at Mohawk
Racetrack on Thursday evening (Aug. 11) as the
Campbellville, ON oval played host to two $105,000 Ontario
Sires Stakes (OSS) Gold divisions for the colts and four
$18,000 Grassroots divisions for the fillies.
In the Gold Series battles, Sports Column and Streakavana
picked up their second OSS trophies and moved to the top of
the division standings.
Sports Column led off with a commanding four length
victory in the first $105,000 split. The Sportswriter? Lady
Leslie son and driver Chris Christoforou took control of the
race heading by the three-quarter pole and pulled away from
the field in spite of a steering issue that saw the colt leaning
heavily on the inside line. Yogi Bayama and Manceiver
finished four lengths behind the fan favorite in second and
third.
?There?s something small bothering him that we?ve got to
get fixed up,?said trainer Blake Macintosh. ?We?ve got a
month to the Champlain, so he?ll have an easy week this
week and he?ll go up to Dr. Ruch?s Monday or Tuesday next
week, and hopefully he can figure him out.?
Macintosh selected Sports Column out of the 2015
Lexington-Selected Yearling Sale, offering up $20,000 for the
colt, and he opted not to pay the colt into the Metro Pace or
the Nassagaweya Stake. Sports Column?s next start will come
in the Sept. 10 Champlain Stakes at Mohawk and then he
will finish up the OSS season with Gold Legs at Grand River
Raceway on Sept. 19 and Mohawk on Oct. 1, and the season
ending Super Final at Mohawk on Oct. 15.
?In one way I?m happy that we didn?t pay him into the
Metro, because now I?ve got a month to try and get him right
and have him right for the Super Final and the Champlain
and his last two Golds,?said Macintosh. ?Have him ready for
that, then put him away, and hopefully we?ve got a nice
three-year-old for next year.?
The Cambridge, ON resident conditions Sports Column for
his partners Hutt Racing Stable of Paoli, PA (Joe and JoAnn
Thomson) and Daniel Plouffe of Bromont, QC. Through six
starts the colt has four wins, including two in Gold Series
action and his elimination and the final of the Battle of
Waterloo, and two seconds for earnings of $222,000.
In the second division, driver Sylvain Filion fired fan favorite
Streakavana away from post nine and settled the Big
Jim? Stonebridge Madonna son on the rail in fourth as
Calvin K rolled out to a :27.3 opening quarter. Opting not to
sit and watch Calvin K do all the work, Filion sent
Streakavana to the front before the :56.1 half and the
gelding led the field to a 1:25.2 three-quarters and then
sailed down the stretch to a 1:53.1 victory. Calvin K finished

one length back in second, just ahead of Machin A Trick.
Filion crafted the win, Streakavana?s third straight, for
trainer Scott McEneny of Waterdown, ON and owners Brad
Grant and Teresa Davidson of Milton, ON. In four starts, the
pacer has posted three wins and one second for earnings of
$117,500. With two Gold Series wins he sits second in the
division standings with 100 points, while Sports Column
holds down top spot with 125 points.
Both Christoforou and Filion also scored wins in the pacing
filly Grassroots divisions. Christoforou kicked things off in the
first race, guiding White Dancer to a come-from-behind effort
that saw her sprint home in :27.3 to snatch a nose victory
away from pacesetter Dudesalady. Fan favorite Treasures
Pearl was one-half length back in third in the 1:55.4 mile.
resident Paul MacDonell for trainer Sean Mehlenbacher of
Hamilton, ON and owner John Mehlenbacher of Burlington,
ON. In two starts the Camluck? Dragon Moon daughter, a
$12,000 purchase at the 2015 Harrisburg Yearling Sale, has
posted one win and one third for earnings of $10,680.
The last Grassroots trophy went home with favorite
Shewearsthepants, who got away from the field around the
final turn and hit the wire a five and three-quarter length
winner in 1:55.1. Snappy Dresser and Fashion Writer finished
second and third.
?She?s been a little warm, so they rigged her up a little
different tonight and it helped,?said driver Doug McNair of
Guelph. ?She has a big motor in her if you can use it at the
right time.?
?She?s been plagued with small issues this season,?said
Campbellville resident Christoforou. ?Dustin Jones gets all
the credit for her performance tonight, he had her prepared
to benefit off a decent trip, and being back on a seven day
rotation helped as well.?
McNair?s father Gregg conditions Shewearsthepants for
owner/breeder Anatolia Farm LLC of New Holland, PA. The
win was the filly?s first in Grassroots action and boosted her
record to two wins and two thirds in five starts for earnings
of $20,500.
Waterdown resident Jones conditions White Dancer for
owner/breeder Emerald Highlands Farm of Mount Vernon,
OH. The grey daughter of Big Jim? Dancing Inthe Park missed
her July 25 Battle of the Belles elimination due to sickness,
but returned to action in an overnight event at Mohawk on
Aug. 4, finishing seventh and setting herself up for Thursday?s
victory.
The freshman pacing fillies will be back at Mohawk on
Aug. 22 for their fourth Grassroots event, while their Gold
Series peers arrive at the Campbellville oval tonight (Aug.
12) for a pair of $105,000 divisions. The freshman pacing
fillies will be joined by the two-year-old trotting colts, who
will line up in three Gold Series divisions. Post time for
Friday?s program is 7:30 pm.
Filion got his Grassroots win in the second division with P
L Kahluaa, who bounced back from a bout with sickness to
post her first lifetime victory. Like Christoforou did in the first
division, Milton resident Filion sent the fan favorite up the
outer lane and used her sharp last quarter speed to reel in
the front runners and post a 1:54.2 victory. Odysseus finished
one and one-quarter lengths back in second and Sports
Beauty was six and three-quarter lengths back in third.
? Sandra Snyder / OSS publicity
Richard Moreau of Puslinch, ON took over training duties
on P L Kahluaa following her first two Grassroots starts. The
Sportswriter? B R Dot Cam miss was second in the July 18
season opener at Mohawk and fifth in the July 17 event at
Clinton Raceway. Numbered company 9303 3868 Quebec Inc.
of Blainville, QC owns P L Kahluaa, who was a $6,000
purchase out of last fall?s Lexington-Selected Yearling Sale.
Mohawk fans were treated to another close finish in the
third division as Daenerys Hanover powered up the outer
lane and down the stretch to a 1:55.2 victory. Favored Sports
Leader settled for second by a neck and Todays Sports
completed the top three.

Hambletonian Oaks winner All The Time appears to be
doing well as she recovers from emergency colic surgery,
trainer Jimmy Takter said Monday (Aug. 8).
All The Time displayed symptoms of colic early Sunday
(Aug. 7), roughly 14 hours after winning the Hambletonian
Oaks at the Meadowlands Racetrack, and was taken to
Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center, where intestinal surgery
was performed. Takter said he was notified Monday that the
three-year-old female trotter was recovering nicely and
normal intestinal function appeared to have resumed.
?We were very fortunate,?Takter said. ?They did a fantastic
job at Mid-Atlantic to do what they did. She is going to be
there for four or five days so they can monitor her. But as of
this morning everything was working well, so that is good.?

$500,000 Hambletonian Oaks by three-and-three-quarter
lengths over Caprice Hill in 1:52.1, giving Takter his third
consecutive win in the Oaks and his sixth champion overall,
tying Jan Johnson for the most in history.
A daughter of stallion Muscle Hill out of the
stakes-winning mare Cantab It All, All The Time has won 11
of 19 career races and earned $827,616. In addition to the
Hambletonian Oaks, her victories include the 2015 Breeders
Crown for two-year-old filly trotters and the 2015 New Jersey
Sire Stakes championship.
All The Time was the first foal out of Cantab It All. The
second, Ariana G, is undefeated in four races and won
Saturday?s Jim Doherty Memorial at the Meadowlands. She is
a full sister to All The Time.
Takter was uncertain of All The Time?s future, saying it
would take more than a month for the filly to recover from
surgery.
?The chances that she is going to race again are 50-50 at
best,?Takter said. ?Maybe I can have her ready for the
Breeders Crown (in late October) but she will let me know.
I?m not going to do anything to jeopardize her health. She is
such a unique horse and her family is great. We are grateful
for what she has done.?

Despite a hot, humid day with storms predicted for the
afternoon, some 20,000 patrons attended last Saturday?s
(Aug. 6) Hambletonian Day card at the Meadowlands
Racetrack in East Rutherford, NJ.
With some international betting numbers still to come in,
the total North American handle for the Hambletonian Day
card was $5,656,698 ? with $1,216,846 bet on track and
$4,439,852 wagered through Meadowlands export.
Compared to 2015, the total North American handle was
off 15.6 per cent. The North American handle is off 19 per
cent from the 2014 total of $6,995,047.
?The truth is, we?ve seen a slow decline in our export here
in North America,?said Meadowlands chairman Jeff Gural. ?I
think it?s a result of the fact that our customers are old and
some of them are no longer around, coupled with the fact
that we get no press anymore. Basically, I don?t think anyone
even knows the Hambletonian exists other than the hardcore
fans. At least the thoroughbreds get press. How many people
know that we exist??
For this year?s Hambletonian Day card, add in nearly $1.2
million in non-commingled foreign handle to date, as of
Thursday (Aug. 11) ? $833,061 (in U.S. dollars) through
France PMU; $212,047 through Sweden ATG; $94,207 in
Italy; $42,464 in Norway (for pools not commingled with
PMU); $12,434 through TabCorp Australia; $1,330 through
UBET Australia and $1,354 through RWWA Australia ? and
the total bet to date is $6,853,595 without the French online
numbers that are not reported until November. The final
non-commingled tally likely will be available after the
Harrisburg Sale.

Thursday (Aug. 11), Yonkers Raceway played host to the
$164,874 New York Sire Stakes Bruce Hamilton Pace for
three-year-old fillies.
Two, $82,437 divisions made up the event, which once
again honored the memory of a certified mover and shaker
(as well as a fairly decent soul) in the state?s racing and
breeding program.
The opening Hamilton group saw Soft Idea (Scott Zeron,
$15.40), from post position four work out a perfect,
second-over trip. She was able to get the lane jump on
pocketeer Milky Way Rae (Jim Morrill Jr.), edging that one by a
neck in 1:54.3. Encore Deo (George Brennan) was third.
Time on My Hands (Jason Bartlett), as the 4-5 favorite, led
the lasses (:27.4, :57.2, 1:26), but caved badly through the
stretch and finished last among the seven.
For third choice Soft Idea, an American Ideal? Walk Softly
filly trained by Linda Toscano for co-owning stables South
Mountain, Bay?s, Radio Racing and Little E, it was her third
win in eight seasonal starts. The exacta paid $85, with the
triple returning $283.
?The trip worked out great and she seems to race better
from off the pace,?Zeron said.
The second sire stakes soiree saw pole-sitting, odds-on
Dime a Dance (Matt Kakaley, $3, part of entry) take over from
fresh Lasix Wishy Washy Girl (Morrill Jr.), then complete her
civic duties (:27.4; :57.3, 1:25.4, 1:53.3).
Dime a Dance defeated 27-1 shot WWG by a length, with
No Clouds Bluechip (Zeron) a first-up third.
Dime a Dance, a Roll with Joe? Hat Dance Hanover filly
trained by Ron Burke for co-owners Our Horse Cents and J&T
Silva Stables and Blue Chip Bloodstock is now four-for-nine
this season. The exacta paid $38.20, with the triple returning
$96.
?She?s much better now,?Kakaley said. ?Early in the season,

Sire stakes continue tonight (Aug. 12), with the $150,224 Milt
Taylor Trot (2-year-old colts/geldings). Two divisions (races 6
and 7) at $75,112 each comprise the event.
Harness racing?s richest horse, Foiled Again, is heading for
Prince Edward Island to contest the Sobeys Gold Cup &
Saucer trials that will lead up to the 57th running of Prince
Edward Island?s premier race on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Red

JK Endof anera to stand at
V i ctory Hi l l
JK Endofanera p,3, 1:48.2 ($2,049,580), the winner of the
2014 North America Cup and numerous other major stakes,
has been retired to stud duty at Victory Hill Farm in Indiana.
A now five-year-old stallion, JK Endofanera arrived at
Victory Hill on Monday, Aug. 8, and is scheduled to lead the
post parade for the Dan Patch free-for-all ? a race he won
last year ? on Friday night at Hoosier Park.
JK Endofanera was bred and campaigned by the 3 Brothers
Stable of Steven, Alan and Ron Katz. They have sold a
significant interest to a group comprised of the same
principals who brought Always A Virgin to Indiana. A stud fee
will be announced at a later date.
?He?s brought my family enormous pleasure,?said Alan Katz,
?and now we look forward to his next career in Indiana.?
A son of the Artsplace stallion Art Major, JK Endofanera is
out of the Presidential Ball-sired Presidential Lady, who is
also the dam of 2014 Horse of the Year JK She?salady.
?We are very excited to add JK Endofanera to our stallion
roster,?said Jeff King, who operates Victory Hill Farm with his
wife, Dr. Maria King. ?His talent speaks for itself and he?s a
magnificent individual. I believe he will prove to be a top
sire in North America and he brings the incomparable
Artsplace sire line to Indiana.?
Trained by Ron Burke at ages two and three and Jimmy
Takter during his 4-year-old season, JK Endofanera beat every
top colt of his generation. As a two-year-old he won four of
seven starts, among them the $534,500 Governor?s Cup at
the Meadowlands, when he took his freshman mark of 1:51.4.
At age three he captured the $1 million (Cdn) North America
Cup, defeating a field that included He?s Watching and
McWicked. He also won a Meadowlands Pace elimination
over Always B Miki and later in the season captured the
Tattersalls at The Red Mile.
In 2015, at age four, JK Endofanera won more than
$500,000, including the Dan Patch free-for-all at Hoosier
Park by two-and-a-half lengths in 1:48.4, exploding past his
rivals with a :26.2 final quarter.

Joh n Eades dead at 67
John R. Eades, 67, a lifelong harness horseman, died on
Saturday (Aug. 6) at his home in London, OH.
It was perhaps fitting that Eades, who dearly loved training
trotters, died unexpectedly while watching the broadcast of
the Hambletonian.
Eades had started horses in the Hambletonian, and trained
in Italy where he achieved success.
His father was a diehard harness racing fan, and took his
sons, David and John, to the opening night of racing at Scioto
Downs in 1959.
John began working for Hall of Fame horseman Delvin
Miller in the 1960s as a groom while was attending the
University of Kentucky in Lexington. John often spent his

spare time at The Red Mile watching horses train during the
winter.
He later served as a assistant to another Hall of Famer,
John F. Patterson, Sr., and worked in that capacity for many
years on the New York circuit.
While in Quebec, Giguere also owned, trained and drove
standardbreds and was a passionate advocate for the sport.
He was a third-generation horseman. His father Jules, and
uncle Georges are both members of the Canadian Horse
Racing Hall Of Fame.
John had such a strong interest in European racing, that he
attracted the attention of legendary French horseman and
breeder J-P Dubois, and he later trained many horses for
Dubois in the United States.
Yvon is survived by his wife Michelle, sons Frederic and
Francois, daughter Andreann and brothers Guy, Robert and
Michel.
John was also involved in exporting horses, and
accompanied the great stallion Supergill when that horse
was flown across the Atlantic from the U.S. to Italy in the
1990s.
? Grand River Raceway
In 1996, John campaigned the Supergill trotter Tony Oaks,
who won the Colonial Stakes and started in the
Hambletonian against Continental Victory and Lindy Lane.
Tony Oaks later became a leading sire in Eastern Europe.
Ronald Ingrassia, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and
horse trainer/driver at the Monticello Raceway, passed away
on Thursday (Aug. 4) at his home in Hurleyville surrounded
by his family. He was 75.
Fillgood, a grandson of Valley victory, was also another top
stakes star developed and trained by Eades. He won the
Florida Brreders Stake final.
The son of the late Charles Ingrassia and Elizabeth Cerullo
Ingrassia, he was born Nov. 7, 1940 in Corona, NY.
In recent years, he has trained a small stable, including
trotters owned by his brother David, who was mayor of
London, Ohio for more than 25 years.
? Dean Hoffman
Yv on Gi guere passes
Yvon Giguere passed away on Monday (Aug. 8) after a short
battle with cancer. He was 63.
Giguere was the Simulcast Manager for Grand River
Raceway since 2010.
The Quebec native was a highly esteemed executive
throughout the global harness racing industry.
He was an enormous asset to the Elora, ON track with
extensive expertise in tote, simulcast and related fields
garnered from his 20-year racetrack career in Quebec.
A former VP of Racetracks Of Canada and director with
Harness Tracks Of America, Giguere held several
management titles within Attractions Hippiques, Société
National du Cheval de Course (SONACC), and Hippodrome de
Montreal/Blue Bonnets.
Beyond his thorough knowledge of the harness racing
industry, and his thirst for gathering new ideas and concepts,
Giguere was a devoted and enthusiastic member of the
Grand River Raceway team. He was committed to harness
racing and the growth of Grand River Raceway and its
employees.
A private funeral will be held in Quebec City.
Ronal d I ngrassi a dead at 75
Ron was first a family man ? he loved being with his
children and grandchildren. He was also a lifelong horseman.
Harness racing was in his blood from an early age. He raced
professionally as driver for 30 years from 1962 until 1992,
and continued on as a trainer until his death. With over 900
wins as a driver, his best year was 1982 where he had 862
starts and 160 wins.
Ron leaves behind his wife Carol, his daughter Barbie, his
sons Ricky & Randy, eight grandchildren - Hailey (14), Richie
(14), Hannah (13), Kaytlyn (10), Lilly (9), Ashley (9), Anthony
(7) and Joey (2), his son/daughters in law Jake, Jennifer, and
Kathleen, his brother Frank and Jacquie Ingrassia, his brother
Robert and Carol Ingrassia, his sister Lenora and Jay Sperling,
and his sister Betty Lou Ingrassia Carroll and Danny, and his
many nieces and nephews to numerous to mention.
A graveside service was held Sunday (Aug. 7) at the
Hurleyville Cemetery.
Hertrich, Katz, Mossbarger to Hambletonian Society
At the annual meeting of the members of the
Hambletonian Society held Aug. 5 in Rutherford, NJ, the
board of directors of the Society approved the conditions of
Hambletonian No. 94, the stake for foals of 2016 to be raced
in 2019. In addition to the approval of the conditions for
2019 Hambletonian (and Oaks) and 2020 Hambletonian
Maturity, three vacancies on the board were filled.
Frederick W. Hertrich III of Seaford, DE, Marvin Katz of
Toronto and Dr. John C. Mossbarger of Washington
Courthouse, OH were all elected to serve on the board of the

Hambletonian Society. All have extensive racing and
breeding backgrounds, and are deeply committed to the
future of harness racing.

Hertrich heads an enterprise that operates car dealerships
in Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey and has been selling
and raising yearlings under the All American Harnessbreds
name for more than 25 years. Last year, Hertrich bred the
winners of $4.3 million, and notables he's bred or owned
include Allamerican Native, Boston Red Rocks, Spirit To Win,
Bettor Be Steppin, Travel Playlist, Allamerican Nadia and the
richest pacing mare of all time, Eternal Camnation. Hertrich
owns shares in 90 per cent of all the major pacing and
trotting stallions and has ranked in the top 10 of all U.S.
breeders in the last two years.
Standardbred owners from around the world dream of a
victory on Hambletonian Day at the Meadowlands, the most
prestigious program of harness racing held the first weekend
in August every year.
Katz, has been a dominant owner and breeder in harness
racing in North America for more than 30 years. He has won
every major race ? from the Meadowlands Pace to the
Hambletonian ? and developed, along with partners Al
Libfeld and Sam Goldband, one of the more elite trotting
broodmare bands in the sport. Katz bred full sisters All The
Time and Ariana G who won the Hambletonian Oaks and Jim
Doherty Memorial respectively last Saturday, and also shared
ownership on 2010 Hambletonian winner Muscle Massive
and 2008 Hambletonian Oaks winner Creamy Mimi.
Dr. Mossbarger is a veterinarian and the vice president of
Midland Acres, Inc., a family-owned 500-acre breeding farm
in Bloomingburg, OH. Midland Acres has become one of
Ohio's largest nurseries, and is currently home to eight of the
most in?demand stallions in the Midwest, including
Breeders Crown champions Broadway Hall,
Manofmanymissions and Break The Bank K. A
second-generation horseman, Mossbarger is a director of the
USTA, the past president of the Ohio Harness Horsemen's
Association and the Ohio Standardbred Breeders and Owners
Association. He is a member of the Fayette County Harness
Horsemen's Association, and serves as a state trustee on the
Ohio Farm Bureau Federation.
Long time partners Al Libfeld and Marvin Katz of Pickering
and Toronto, Ontario, respectively, had that dream fulfilled
last Saturday when their undefeated two-year-old filly
Ariana G captured the Doherty Stake to give her four
victories to date in her young career.
However, that wasn?t the end of the celebrating in the
winner?s circle for them. A few races later Ariana G?s full
sister, All The Time, impressively captured the $500,000
Hambletonian Oaks, the filly companion race to the $1
million Hambletonian.
Not only do Libfeld and Katz own these talented distaffers,
they also are their breeders.
They operate a boutique breeding operation with some of
the most well bred broodmares in the sport in residence.
The operation sells yearlings annually and this year?s group
includes a full brother to Ariana G and All The Time called
Fleet Admiral. He?ll be part of the 18 colts and fillies
consigned to the Lexington Select Sale being sold by
Kentuckiana Farms, Agent.
The Libfeld/Katz partnership has a very active website
(http:/ / www.libfeldkatz.com) to promote their yearlings and
racehorses. The site is updated regularly and features race
videos of the graduates of their breeding operation.
